We live in the neighborhood and had tried this restaurant for lunch 3 or 4 times. The interior design is uber chic, very comfortable and inviting. Our waitperson, Lauren, was very good…professional, attentive, kind. Our food was very good. Here’s the rub: when we were given the bill, questions arose. I ordered 3 glasses of wine @$17 glass. The bill showed 3 glasses at $25. They upgraded me w/o my knowledge but they made it right when we discussed it. My husband asked for bread and was ultimately given four slices of day old baguette toasted…$9. To their credit,they removed that charge as well. The “piece de resistance” was the service charge. When we asked what it was for, we were told that it was charged so that the proprietor could pay better wages. That was on top of the 20% tip that we chose to leave Lauren. She earned it. However, are we now expected to kick in to pay wages? We love fine dining and are happy to pay for it. In this case, we felt they were taking advantage of their clientele.
