Blue Bar Ratings and Reviews
Very nice meal, staff friendly and good atmosphere. However one thing did let the experience down a little bit. I was there a couple of weeks ago and when ordering our food we ordered 2 pints of Peroni. The pints arrived as expected in nice Peroni glasses. After a while we ordered another 2 pints however they came in a very plain glasses and when I asked the waitress could we not have Peroni glasses she advised me that they only had 2 Peroni glasses and they were the ones we had used and they were in the glass washer now (I kid you not). So when I was there last Friday 11/08/17 the exact same thing happened. Might seem a little over the top complaining about this however when paying €6.50 for a pint of Peroni the least I expect is for it to be in the proper glass. Come on Blue bar talk to your supplier and get more Peroni glasses please. Other then that a great night was had by all.
Had a lovely afternoon on Monday, the waiter was so lovely and friendly and couldn't have done enough for us, we had our 4 year old boy with us and he also loved the waiter. I'm raging I can't think of his name to pass on my thanks to him but we were there from 3-5.30 on Monday and we sat just inside the front door on the left maybe he can remember us! He is a credit to you guys such a lovely guy will definitely be back
Blue Bar was amazing. We went for my Mam's birthday and I put a request on the booking to ask for something nice to be done and when deserts came out, some members of staff came and sang Happy Birthday to her. She was delighted as she wasn't expecting it at all, which made it even better. The food was beautiful, service was great and the food came in great time, not too quick that you felt you were being rushed and not too long that you were waiting and wondering where it was. It was our first time out to Blue Bar as we live in Dublin 15 and it was definitely worth the drive. We will be back in the near future.
My only only negative comment on the evening was in relation to desert.
One it took about 30 minutes from time of order to getting the order to table.
Second was that the sundae I ordered didn't even resemble the sundae at the table next to us. Reason I ordered this as it looked lovely.
Mine was brought out in what I would call a child's glass bowl with just the chocolate sauce on top. All the others were served in tall sundae glasses with sauce running through it all.
Blue Bar is a popular spot for a reason: The food is fantastic. Chicken wings are famous nationwide and beyond at this stage and the accolades are well deserved - they're hot, spicy and finger licking good!
Aside from the wings, the Bang Bang Shrimp is delicious and lite as a starter.
Burgers are meaty, succulent and generous with toppings, especially the Full Monty which has a couple of onion rings thrown in for good measure. The Seafood chowder was thick creamy and moreish, only one small crab claw in it which was a little disappointing, but very tasty.
I probably shouldn't have had dessert but you only live once. The sticky toffee pudding was very good - if a little dry for what should be a steamed pudding. Saying that the introduction of nuts into the cake was a delightful surprise. The Harbor Sundae also graced our table and didn't disappoint. Rich, creamy and delicious.
All in I really like this restaurant. The food is great, the service is very friendly and the ambience is relaxed and informal. My only issue was that we were sitting right under a large speaker. Don't get me wrong, I like my music loud, but I also like to hear the conversation over dinner. I wouldn't turn it down, just relocate the speaker to somewhere there isn't a diner's table.
Advise you book though, don't turn up expecting a table. We went on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy - yes I did book a table so no issues there.
We have eaten regularly in the restaurant due to the atmosphere, friendly staff and the lovely food. We were slightly disappointed that the menu has recently changes - in particular that Ribs has been taken off teh menue. We also noted that the wings content (large) had reduced remarkably from previuos visits - however the food that we ate was beautiful.
We recently had our 3rd visit to the Blue Bar and the food has been excellent every time. We were seated in the main bar, as we had requested when booking. Service can be a bit off, as we were waiting on our mains, but would put this down to a Saturday night and a full house. Overall I would highly recommend.
The food was amazing and the wings are the best I've ever had! Service was a little disappointing tho as it was a mon evening and wasn't extreamly busy yet we were waiting almost 45 mins for our food to arrive( I think our order was forgotten about) but the food was amazing.
Attended on Friday 14th July 2017. Immediately put off by front of house telling us the table was required at 830. This was not mentioned to us when we made the reservation. It was quite off putting as we felt under pressure for the duration of our meal. Thus tainting our experience and evening out.
Lovely food as always however felt because we had an infant under 1yr that we were placed in a corner out of the way... and soon there were 3 other families with children ushered into the same corner. Kiddie corner perhaps? Put them in there Out of the road !
Anyway we still had a great day meeting friends & as I said before food was lovely. Will definitely be back at some stage as it's tranquil along the harbour.
Travelled as I heard the chicken wings were meant to be the best, very disappointed to say the least. I reserved a table for 2 and got sat basically on the bar very uncomfortable seats asked could we move to another table and was told no.
Chicken wings were very disappointing and hasnt a patch on wishbone or elephant & castle. Will not be returning sadly
