We went to Houser on spec and were pleased in that it was quiet (in fact we were the only people there) so we had great service and despite being empty the place has a good energy and the interior is pleasing. The food is described as European but is more a Japanese interpretation, nevertheless a welcome break from salty Japanese food. More

The restaurant is on the 3rs floor of a side building. Great experience and food here. The chef doesn't speak much English, but the sous chefs can translate a little bit. Each dish was beautifully plates and prepared, with unique flavours and depth of flavour. I would highly recommend it! More

Love this place. Excellent server. Brussel sprouts, oyster mushroom curry soup, chicken shiitake and bbq beef dumplings were Great! Other dishes we had were, yes, of course good, but not special. The space and ambiance-- bar, patio, etc. -- are very appealing, but this is NOT the place for good conversation over a leisurely meal. Noise level is a personal choice, so that shouldn't discourage most people, but it's a major factor for us vintage models. More

On a rare visit to Tokyo, I set up a date to meet a friend. Although I was over half an hour late, my friend was waiting for me downstairs with a lemon beer. It looked good, but I went with a Kona beer and it did not disappoint. After choosing a petite spinach salad and an adorable plate of heart-shaped mozzarella with baby tomatoes, we were ushered upstairs where we could enjoy a long conversation over an excellent Pinot Noir and a small plate of delectable grilled meat. The best thing about Chef and Butcher is the food, followed by the service, which was attentive yet unobtrusive. However, it was a bit slow that night, perhaps due to a party downstairs. The atmosphere is country charming with outdoor seating available. Besides the small portions for the prices, the only drawback I can see is the lack of barrier-free access. Go here for a date, a party, to entertain friends or just to taste some really tender, juicy meat! All in all, I can highly recommend Chef and Butcher for a stylish yet casual visit to Nishi-Azabu. More
