Chaplin's Restaurant & Bar is a 1930's style Japanese Ramen House and cocktail bar. Chaplin's Executive Chef and Partner, Myo Htun, is originally from Burma, but was cooking ramen in Japan at a young age. Myo received a blessing from his mentor in Japan after nearly 30 years of cooking in Japan, to come to America and continue to showcase his authentic Ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chaplin's Restaurant demonstrates the aesthetic of a bustling ramen house in Japan in the 1930's silent film era. My roommate and I went for happy hour and it was outstanding!! Both inside and out had good vibes, even with a little bit of rain at one point it was just fine. The happy hour drink prices and super good and the cocktails are all unique but really well done, this would be a great first date spot I think :) if you want an extra fun experience, get “The Cure” and they toast the rosemary when they serve the drink!

The laziest waitress I have ever experiences. She actually acted irritated that she had to walk to the other end of the table to take orders. She wanted to lean against the wall and have orders yelled at her. Drinks orders sat on the bar for so long that they were warm by the time they arrive. The restaurant was also miserably hot. This was the worst place I could have brough out of town business guests.

I was actually very disappointed the server was very rude. A member from my group asked to speak to a manager two times and the manager never came. We had to go find her. The glasses were very dirty and had lip stains on it and the waitress got frustrated and slammed plates on the table. I actually eat here often and I was so ashamed that I recommended it. I hope they can resolve their staffing issues promptly

We usually get ramen to go but decided to enjoy on the patio. This time around- the service was awful (had to go inside to ask for the check after waiting 30min!), the ramen was brought to us lukewarm with what tasted like microwaved pork belly, and our sever was nowhere to be found for 25+ min at a time. Guess we’ll stick to carry out. Only plus is the happy hour cocktails but get there early or you’ll only maybe get a chance to order 1.

Good service. Enjoyed the patio. The ramen recommended by the server - the Chaplin - had pork slices that were so thick and fatty that I couldn’t eat them. Definitely the least positive thing about my experience.

Rather disappointing experience at what has typically been a “go to” restaurant. Started out shaky when the we attempted to get a bottle of red wine… apparently they were out of Cab Sav, Cab, and Malbec so we settled for a Merlot. Server was very friendly and polite but service was slow- perhaps slightly short staffed? Appetizers were fantastic- gyoza and karaage. The ramen that many of us ordered (Tan Tan Man) was tasty but very light on the amount of pork which was a disappointment. Food came out quickly which was great. Will definitely be back but hope our next visit is more like all of the other experiences we have had there.

I was craving Chaplin for a while so I decided to go out with my sister. Since we went in the evening I knew it was going to be loud. We did have to speak a little louder, which was a little annoying. I do like how they keep the lights dim on the upper level. Our server was okay at first but started to be a bit much when I asked for a very simple request with my food. I worked in the restaurant industry before, so I’m aware of how certain types of request can be crazy. But what I asked was very simple to make it easier for me to enjoy my food. Since I added bok choy, I just wanted them to chop it up into smaller pieces. The server kept trying to make it a point that everything is pre-made and they don’t know if they will be able to do it… but they will ask. The main reason why I asked for that is because the last time I ordered it, it was very hard to enjoy it with the chopsticks. Bok choy is a little chewy and the pieces I had before were huge. So I was confused as to why they sort of caught an attitude. But the server still submitted the request. The server didn’t check on us as much until we were almost done. They probably had a long day or something. SN I’ve been several times before and had awesome servers. So that one experience isn’t a reflection on the staff as a whole. However, the food is always on point! The wontons are my favorite appetizer on the menu. I tried the Chaplin A.S.S. for the first time and it was great. The spice level was perfect and I would highly recommend it for a rainy day. I personally don’t eat pork so I’ll see if they can make another ramen dish on the menu with chicken broth the next time I come. I usually don’t like ramen from restaurants and I’ll just make it at home. But I’m glad I did try Chaplin’s! Definitely my new go-to ramen spot 🔥

Chaplin's has fantastic ramen (in HUGE portions!) and dumplings. The service is friendly but ... are they understaffed? Our drinks took forever on our most recent visit; and the server told me the kitchen "couldn't" leave off a particular sauce from a dish that the sauce is obviously NOT an integral part of. That sounded like "they're too busy to cater to your needs." But if you're not in a hurry, and you're an omnivore and don't plan to ask for anything special to be done with your food, Chaplin's is a great place for a gathering of friends (indoors or outdoors) to enjoy truly yummy food.

We enjoyed our dinner at Chaplin’s. The service was great, and we sat in a booth that was perfect for our family. Everyone enjoyed their food. We started with a few gyoza and the shu mai. All were good. The drunken gyoza was a little strange, but not bad. Everyone had ramen for a main. I had the Chaplin’s ramen, and it was very good. For reference, we lived in Japan for 3.5 years, and have tried ramen from many different regions. The ramen here did not disappoint. Drinks were all well made. Strong, but delicious.

Both hostesses at the front of the restaurant, along with the manager, were incredibly rude to both me and my party. We checked in at 7:25p for a 7:30p reservation and were still not seated by 8:00p. I asked the manager multiple times when our table will be ready and his verbatim response was, “You want me to yell at the people sitting at the table to leave?” All I wanted was clear communication and respect as someone who was planning to dine at the restaurant. Then, when we got seated, the waitress approached us with such coldness, as if she wanted to be anywhere else but there. We asked for Casamigos for our drinks and she acted like we asked for cough syrup. Her immediate response was, “We DON’T have Casamigos,” without any solution. The cherry on top (and the reason we left before even dining) is that a member of my party has a severe tree nut allergy. We asked her to check with the kitchen to ensure that there wasn’t any cross contamination. Her response was, “I guess let me see what I can do.” Absolutely awful and lacked any ownership of the guest experience. I wish I could’ve given this experience a 0 star. Will never be returning.

Great customer service and amazing food. We sat upstairs and were waited on by Vinnie who gave us some great service and shared some background on the history of the restaurant. They allowed us to order two rounds of drinks right before the end of the happy hour, and when they found out we were locals, they gave us a free desert. We had a great time; it was truly a treat.

Best Ramen in DC!!! We started with drinks, old fashion and out in Paris. For appetizers we had the shrimp Gyoza, which is absolutely delicious. Our ramen we had was Shoyu and Miso, which is perfectly cooked noodles and the base is delicious with lots of fresh and hearty ingredients. Everything is just darn GOOD!!!
