Food was lovely and they surprised me with a happy birthday desert as the hotel knew it was my birthday was a lovely surprise and a nice way to end the meal
For a restaurant that charges a fair bit the bread should have been free and more plentiful. We had the sharing sea food platter which was overly seasoned and not pleasant. The prawns were swimming in a soy sauce and overly cooked as they were mushy inside. The cod was bitter to taste. The green bean were oily and tasteless.
The ribeye was good and the rosti was excellent. We lost interest with ordering from the dessert menu because as we were given the menu to review dessert we were then promptly told we had only 30mins to enjoy dessert and teas/coffees.
Our waiter Ross was pleasant and attentive, it’s just the restaurant policy of turning tables fast for maximum profit.
Had the best lambs liver dish that I have ever had, perfectly cooked and presented and absolutely delicious! The side of French green beans were also perfect. A in a hurry so didn't have a starter or a main. Highly recommended restaurant.
Took food away waited for ages
Excellent service, excellent food and excellent environment. Would definitely recommend!
The food was delicious although the soup was cold. The service was good, turkey was moist and cooked to perfection. Big fireplace was great too.
We had a lovely celebration lunch. Great food and good service. Lovely atmospheric restaurant. I would recommend.
On arriving early had a coffee. I was frankly horrified that the charge for this was £4.80. The coffee wasn’t even warm and I had to ask for some hot milk to warm it up. Bill also included 13% service charge. For a coffee really!!!
Worst main meal I have ever eaten. For example , the potatoes were inedible .
Also my partner has a severe nut allergy and they did not bite this after 3 phone calls . They also could not communicate what they were putting on their plates .
So although a lot of things were not right, i will say me and my partner did have a great night but there were some things that troubled us. I think the first thing to say is about the prices. We went to the bar before dinner and the price list on the drinks is almost laughable. You'd think you were in Mayfair when you look at the whisky prices alone but fine. We had a cocktail each which wasn't the best we've had there. We were taken to the table without our coats being taken all night so we were the only ones with coats slung on the back of our chairs. As our table was at 9pm and we felt very rushed throughout the meal. We ordered the surf and turf for £37.something which we thought was going to come out on a platter like normal shared meals but it came on 2 plates of which the portion sizes seemed inadequate for the price paid. The chateaubriand tasted very nice but the lobster tail didnt taste fresh and could have been mistaken for a crayfish it was so small. When the bill came we were pretty shocked at the total amount as well as the 13.5% service charge (which the staff do not receive). We could have spent less somewhere like The Coach and had more food as well as drinks for less. We asked the service charge to be taken off as there is no way we are paying if the servers do not receive every penny. Our main concerns were the prices paid for the quality and quantity received. If you don't believe us just walk in and take a look at the spirits and what they actually are. Very basic selection which is massively overpriced
Attended the crazy bear for my wife and I’s birthday... very good service and value for money. Was so full from the starters and mains that we did not order desert.
Lovely food, however would of been nice if on the menu corriander was in the starter - not allergic but dislike the taste. I had risotto for my main which was plentiful and tasteful. Crumble for pudding was nice yet lacking in size portion. Overall was a lovely experience
We have visited the Crazy Bear many times. We always have a drink before in the main bar and then we have a lovely meal. We've never been disappointed.
Great experience and I would definitely do it again.
The guys at the Bear gave us a nice booth table for our daughters birthday, good food and enjoyable evening.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
Would definitely recommend to everyone.
I felt the portion size of the Surf and Turf was small considering its price. I was pleased we ordered enough sides to make the meal wholesome. Quality of the food was excellent just not enough meat. A lovely meal.
Really lovely decor and very good service. Food was good and came on time. We had the set menu so it was good value.
Very good atmosphere. Staff are amazing very attentive and welcoming.
Well worth a visit for the fairly unique decor, the welcome and the ettention of staff- and obviously the toilets!. Won;t maybe appeal to vegans and vegetarians but for Gods sake been to too many pallid places that do.
Amazing place to go, I’ve been wanting to go for the last few years, well worth the wait. Amazing meal and drinks and place looks more amazing than the pictures show.
Already recommended to a few friends who will be dining with you.
Call me old fashioned, but i do like to have a restaurant which is light enough to read the menu without resorting to phone torch.
The whole experience of going to the loo - dark, not sure which door to open, confusing and i only had one drink!
Maybe it's better during the day.
Great Service, I loved the ambience.
My steak was a bit to chewy for me, the restaurant needs to expand on there dessert options.
Overall it was a nice Birthday meal.
Love the crazy bear it was a real treat. Shame the morroccan lounge was too cold to enjoy though, staff are very attentive and great wine selection.
Really good 3 course Sunday lunch menu and the venue is something special
Had a fab stay, quirky, fun Atmosphere, excellent food and excellent service . Room very clean would definitely recommend, will most definitely be visiting again!
Been many times but this time an early lunch with friend we felt young staff not that welcoming. Didn’t offer to carry drinks from bar to table. ‘Oh you want to go through now’
Beetroot starter bland and potato curry uninspiring. The decor never ceases to amaze new customers but nothing else comes up to it. Disappointed could be spectacular sorry
Great venue and good service for drinks at bar . Not too noisy and food good value for what we had. Service in restaurant also v good
Have visited on many occasions, however this time was through a voucher for Sunday Lunch given to us as a gift (purchased directly through the CB). Shocked to find out that they present you will a bill for the cost of the meal (and an overrated price for the Champagne which coincidentally is not one that appears on their menu!) to add a service charge, then deduct the food and drink, so you are still presented with a charge to settle on a prepaid gift voucher. Dissapointing ........ I would have happily paid a service charge on any extras consumed, but when a prepaid dining experience is sold as a gift I would certainly (if I was giving this to someone as a present) not expect for them to have to pay extra just to take advantage of the gift
Have visited this restaurant many times. This time was for my birthday. Food was lovely and so we're the cocktails.
Food was great , environment was great, wine was great - relatively expensive , but you know that when you book - vibe was really good, highly recommended
Lovely atmosphere, cocktails are lovely and food is decent . Service is good !
Fantastic meal as usual, cannot fault it at all - always a family favourite.
It be useful to turn the lights up just a little to make it easier to read the menu.
We went for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a strange experience. Before the meal we had a drink in the bar area which is lovely but staff were cleaning the tables during our lunchtime drink.
The restaurant really needs to be revamped. The white leather furniture is dirty and tired. On the bench I was on there was a hole through the leather. We ordered an appetiser which was lovely but before we could even finish our starters arrived. These were good. My husband enjoyed his main course but mine was a bit of a disaster. I ordered fish and chips! The first attempt at the fish was quite disgusting - crispy batter but the fish was soggy, over cooked mush. The waitress kindly took it away and organised another. Again the batter was marvellous but the fish, though at least there were flakes of fish periodically, was not the standard expected. Very disappointed with this dish and the tatty surroundings. I would not recommend this restaurant, sadly. I've been a few years ago to the English restaurant and it was of a much higher standard in all areas.
I felt like we were on a conveyor belt.. They want you in and out as quick as poss. You do have a 2 hour slot but we have a baby and she was asleep and woke up 5 mins before the end of our slot and we had to move into the bar area so she could eat. I also felt it a bit patronising that when we asked for 2 glasses of champagne the person serving lent down to remind me the cost of the 2 glasses would be! Maybe i looked as though i couldnt afford them - or maybe because £25 for a glass is extortionate!!! Either way i think they have lost the draw.. more interested in filling the place up with groupon customers on offers. Disappointing.
Overrated but still enjoyable. Would go again but wouldn’t rush back either.
Lovely quirky restaurant with lots to look at, a bit pricey for the same menu that you can get in your local pub, but tasted lovely & presented well
Fabulous atmosphere lovely friendly professional staff. It was a very special and memorable lunch with my daughter. We will be returning soon. Loved it.
