Best Contemporary French American Restaurants in Monterey Park

This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had in LA. And it’s hands-down the best value. Every one of the three courses was a revelation. The produce and fish/meats are of the highest quality. The cooking and flavors were subtle and elegant. The waiter was well versed in every dish. The chef, Anthony Wang, came out to discuss preparations. The GM, Lisa, also functioned as a superb sommelier and told us how each dish was sourced. From a subtle melon and leek first course to duck rillettes to perhaps the best lamb I’ve ever tasted — and fabulous desserts — I was in heaven. Calling this a Chinese restaurant misses the mark. It’s infused with Chinese sensibility about seasonal produce and freshness but the food is much broader than that. It could hold its own in any genre. Don’t be put off by this being in Chinatown in an unprepossessing building. This is one of the great culinary experiences of Southern California. And it’s worth at least two or three times the price charged ($68) for this delightful four-course menu. Go before its overrun — which will happen soon.

Traxx is surprisingly good for a restaurant in a major train terminal. The food is well-prepared and the service is excellent. We meet friends there for lunch, with all of us arriving by Metro, Metrolink or Amtrak. They accommodated our group of eight with no problem. It is quiet enough for a business lunch.

We had a lovely lunch and our server was very attentive without being overbearing! She saw to our every need and took very good care of us! She made sure we were able to have our meal and make it to our show on time.
