Cullens at The Cottage
This traditional thatched cottage provides a relaxed dining experience with international and local dishes inspired by our owner Beatrice Tollman.
Open in the summer months, it’s just a short stroll over the bridge from the castle.
A wonderful location. Wish it had windows overlooking the castle. Food was good but not great. Not a restaurant for foodies. Salmon was fresh. I had the Osso Bucca and it was dry. Split a salad and it need more dressing. The bread was a disappointment. Ended up with vegan bread. Deconstructed their chocolate fudge Sunday and it was okay.
Great place for seafood. Excellent service and setting.
We had lovely weather which allowed us to sit outside and enjoy the incredible view. We had mussels and the peri peri chicken sandwich. The waitress, Ciara, was superb. She asked if liked cream in the mussels Marinere sauce and was just generally extremely attentive, personable and not over-bearing. She definitely enhanced the already brilliant experience.
Excellent service and food in a lovely venue. Fish and seafood menu heavy menu. Quite expensive.
We had great service from Claire who made sure we had everything we needed. She always had a smile on her face and knew alot about each dish. Beautiful place to eat.
Very attentive polite staff
we really enjoyed the whole stay at ashford castle the food and place was amazing and the service also
Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere! Very accommodating!
Some staff members need to work on their attitude.......
We ate here twice in the two nights we were in Cong. After eating boring fish and chips for two weeks, this was very well prepared and presented, and of the highest quality. If you are used to eating good food, this is the only place to eat.
The overall service and good was very good but the rice pudding was not available. It is my favourite. However the icecream substitute was worth eating.
Wonderful dinner and service! Thank you! We can’t wait to go back
Two of the party had mussels and were very ill for 3days . The service was poor . Food in general not good . We have eaten in Cullen's many times but never had an experience as bad as this one 😦😦😦
It took 40 minutes for our starters to arrive. When they did the oysters were badly shucked and the soup had plastic.
It was basicaly disorganised with weak service. It is a shame as the food was overall good. Waitress failed to tell us the specials and then had to ask the kitchen.
Super food and service everybody was really attentive, especially David and Alan.
We will definitely return.
Very different atmosphere from most ....a once in a lifetime meal.
Design thoughtfully carried out.
Amazing food, ambience and service. Easily the best meal we had on our vacation.
Loved our lunch at this lovely cottage at Ashford Castle with cool history! Delicious!
Excellent quaity food and service, fresh fish and steak cooked to perfection. Friendly staff, lovely decor.
Stunning place, with delicious food and very friendly and informative service. We will definitely return thank you!
Had dinner with family while staying in Ashlie’s for a special family occasion. Superb food, absolutely incredible service and just so friendly. Would recommend without hesitation and the seafood platter was the highlight of the evening. A superb experience overall and excellent service from young Mark.
Wonderful food and great ambience. Looking forward to the next visit.
My expectations must have been too high. The service was superb, but we were expecting more from the main course. The desert was delicious.
This was the best meal I experienced during a recent trip to Ireland. The setting on the grounds of Ashford Castle is breathtaking and the décor and ambiance of the restaurant were spot on. I am not sure I have come across a more impressive restaurant manager and the service staff were friendly and capable.
The starter of bobotie spring rolls and main course of black sole were excellent. Nice location in the grounds of Ashford Castle. The music was too loud for us.
Staff very helpful
Food very good
Awesome dinner. Fresh seafood, creative cuisine. Would highly recommend for seafood lovers.
Great comfortable meal in a lovely casual setting. Flexible kitchen accommodated our child’s request for a pesto sauced pasta. Would definitively return. Excellent ambiance.
This is our second trip to Ashford Castle and third dinner at Cullen’s in the last year. Overall, it was very good dinner. Awesome cocktails. Scallops were excellent and the chicken was great as well. The poke bowl also hit the spot. We would definitely recommend for a casual, less expensive option when visiting Ashford Castle or Cong.
Excellent food. Lovely chilled out atsmophere. Relaxed dining but with very tasty food. An enjoyable evening.
Excellent food and service in a quaint thatched cottage
Fantastic food on the site of the Ashford Castle/Resort. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice dining experience near Cong.
Firstly the staff were very attentive without being intrusive, they were friendly without being too familiar.
I was a little disappointed with the food, the chowder wasn’t as flavorful as I’d expected, it’s consistency was very thin and it is a small portion, although our waiter brought me extra soup. The herring on the grilled fish platter was in edible because it was far too salty.
On our forth stay at Ashford Castle we again looked forward to visiting Cullen's at The Cottage, we have never been disappointed with our choice of meals, in particular Catch of the Day.
One will never be disappointed with whatever choice chosen. I recommend highly to visit Cullen's at the Cottage on your stay at Ashford Castle. We have eaten twice at Cullen's on our six day stay at the Castle March 2018 Staff very attentive to every need and everyone has a great personality, food and presentatiin was superb, I higly recommend a visit. The Nautical themed surroundings and memorabilia beautiful. Alan I hope you have enjoyed the Best Restaurants Awards you were do to attend. My husband and I look forward to our next visit which we have already booked with the Castle. Well done to a fabulous Chef and team.
Very Best Wishes

From the 'taxi' (Range Rover) to and from the cottage the whole experience was great.
Food excellent, able to feel comfortable in the surroundings 100% worth every penny.
We had such a wonderful time at Cullens that we went back there two days later! Very good service, great wine list, the fish and chips had the most amazing mushy peas I have ever had. It is slightly formal, yet we were not made feel uncomfortable bringing our young children. Would highly recommend it.
Have dined here many times before. On this occasion my childs mash was cold and my husbands monkfish was tepid. There was no toilet paper in the toilet when my husband and child went to use the bathroom.
My fiancé proposed while we were staying at Ashford, and we came here for our engagement dinner and it was amazing. Very cozy and darling inside. I had the grilled lobster and it was absolutely delicious. A meal I will always remember :)
Great casual dining spot on The Ashford Castle property. Nice spot for a couple to enjoy a quiet casual meal. Great service from professionals. Good food made with fresh locally sourced ingredients. Very neat build-out that makes for a nice dining environment.
Cozy intimate fun romantic perfect for dates families special occasions or just wanting to go out and make it special . It has a cottage feel but the food is top quality and the service is 5 star.
Wonderful dining experience
You won't be disappointed
