Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations--imagine cubed hamachi with small chunks of canned pineapple that was absolutely delicious. The do-it-yourself tuna handroll equally delicious with the fried panko adding a whole new taste element. What I love about the food here is that 1 + 1 = 3. Even without a hard liquor license, Budonoki cranks out amazingly complex and delicious cocktails using sochu and sake as a base. The charred sweet potato is addictive as well as the jidori chicken wings (with a pleasant burn on the finish). The Iberico char siu was the coup d'etat--so succulently tender with a great ginger scallion accompaniment. The two ice cream flavors for dessert were delicious, but the Hyoketsu cocktail could easily substitute as the ideal finish. This place is lively, fun and palate-pleasing.
