Flesh & Buns Covent Garden, from the team behind Bone Daddies and Shackfuyu, is located within the bustling Seven Dials area in Covent Garden. Inspired by Japanese izakayas, roughly translated as a pub or place designed for informal eating and drinking, Flesh & Buns is the first restaurant in London to specialise in gua bao buns (DIY filled steamed buns).
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.

Great experience, lovely food. One dish came out wrong which wasn’t an issue at all. However they still gave us complimentary buns and a couple of small drinks. A silly comment but the tables for two are so long you end up feeling isolated from the person you went with. Overall great food and experience. Really enjoyed it. A tad over priced too

Food was excellent. We each had a single dish and they were all equally delicious. Service was excellent - efficient but unobtrusive. The waiting staff were helpful in allowing us to move to a more appropriate table. The only criticism was the music which would be more appropriate at a festival or rave. We were meeting a friend for lunch. We haven't seen her for a couple of years as she comes from Perth, Western Australia. So we were looking forward to a chat. However the insistent beat of the electronic music made it almost impossible to have a conversation. The staff did try to turn the music down & the table we moved to made it much easier to talk. We managed in the end. I don't think our age group is the demographic the owners are aiming at! I probably wouldn't book again unless the music really was a background hum.

Excellent food, there was a super friendly and helpful Spanish Manager from Asturias (I did not catch her name). Ambiance a little dark but its ok.

The food was great but the portions were small and price was high. We paid £94 for mixed set, 2 chicken yaki, 2 glass of malbec, a bottle of water and an edameme. I have shocked after checked the bill since the a glass of malbec was billed as £11 which was written £7 in the menu. I can not say anything bad about the food but we felt we paid overpriced bill. In addition the waitress was asking and pushing us ordering anything else was not good behaviour. We spend less than 40 minutes there, paid the bill and left forever.

We’ve been to Flesh n Buns before and found ourselves needing dinner before a show. Food is good but tables were far too packed in, which ruined it for us. We could all overhear each other. I was closer to the 2 people either side of me than my wife! I get the economics, but it is a fine line and it does affect the experience. I’d think twice before going back. There is lots of other places in the West End. Next time i’d probably make sure it was at a time when the restaurant was going to be quieter and didn’t feel like we were all sat on top of each other.

RG was our server who was lovely and attentive but when he was not immediately around there were plenty other staff happy to assist . My only slight criticism was there was 4 or 5 different people coming asking if we were ok etc. Lighting would be better slightly less dim. Food was lovely! The duck leg was juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. The veggie hot stone rice was a great amalgamation of ingredients! The ingredients were then mixed in the hot stone bowl at the table. The chicken yaki skewers were also full of flavour. Furthermore, the drinks. The mint fizz was awesome but there was a lot of ice…and the Havana 7 Rum I expected to be a golden rum but it was a white rum yet it was still nice. Reasonably priced.

The restaurant has a cool vibe and the service was attentive, friendly and prompt, but I don’t understand the hype about the food. It seemed gimmicky and the food was okay. The “sashimi” was cut into thick slabs rather than thin slices, which may be a better value, but was odd. The various meats were heavily salted and sauced. The cocktails were unbalanced.

Strange place, service hit & miss. Zero guidance on what to order from server, had to ask a number of times for the same thing. Then had way too much food; and they wouldn’t let us take some home. Loud annoying music, couldn’t hear anything (and i’m not old) - dark moody lighting. Better places, with better service, atmosphere and value for money. Food was good but frustrating to waste so much.
