I’m a big fan of Fortnums and wouldn’t consider going anywhere else for a special occasion with friends or family but regrettably this experience wasn’t good.
We booked for a friend’s birthday and the service was slow, distracted and we had to repeatedly ask for our drinks. The waiter was lovely but forgot to offer us tea and when we ordered sparkling tea, we had to keep trying to get someone’s attention.
We were told we only had the table for 2 hours but after 2 hrs and 15 mins, they still hadn’t brought out the birthday cake we ordered.
Finally, the vegetation cakes were inedible. Not tasty at all and I can pretty much tolerate anything!
Poor show from the normally brilliant fortnums. Big service fail this time. Hope it’s a one off
Though a tad pricey, the service was amazing as usual. Our server (Marianna, I think?) really gave us a wonderful experience, including a special birthday celebration for my parents. It made their day. Thank you!
This is an experience that is de rigor for a special occasion or memorable travel experience. The tea selection is outstanding, the staff is quite knowledgeable and committed to inspiring an excellent experience.
The food was AMAZING, and the service to match.
Their style and menu is the right mix of traditional and modern. Our waiter boxed some cake for us to go as we were so full. All of the staff were very knowledgeable on the products and nothing was too much. It was quite expensive but if you're going to treat yourself then this is the way to do it. The only downside was that there were children in there, which is fine, but when they're screaming and crying it taints the experience somewhat. It still wouldn't put me off coming back.
We really liked the atmosphere.
We definitely come back
Great service and environment! The taste is a bit strong for us tho
Our afternoon tea experience was wonderful! Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing and looked after our every need. The choice of food and tea was excellent and there was more than we could manage to eat! The whole experience was an exceptional treat. I would love to do it all again!
On the occasion of my daughter’s graduation we had an afternoon tea. It was a very talcing experience, with great service and lovely food.
Some US friends had given us a voucher for champagne afternoon tea, and it was excellent. F & M were doing an amazing trade (on a Sunday afternoon) and all tables were occupied. However I had booked, through OpenTable, and we were shown to our table immediately.
The presentation was exceptional, and the service excellent. It is essential that you don't have lunch first. The food is splendid, and varied, and you can have as much as you want of anything - the waitress came several times to enquire if we would like more sandwiches, scones or cakes. We very much regret not being able to eat more!
We have often had Afternoon Tea, but this is the first time there has been a savoury option as well. So, we had one sweet and one savoury selection.
At the end you are invited to a trolley to shoose some cakes to take home.
Now, value? Yes, the ambience, service etc. But ...... is it worth £70 pp for the champagne afternoon tea.
It was great for us, because we were not paying, but I would never pay that amount just for tea. You could get a really good Dinner, even in London for that (or for less).
Very very very expensive for small sandwiches and scones. I really felt that this was ridiculously overpriced and would not recommend it to anyone unless you have money to burn.
Had an amazing time for my friends 50th birthday. We just felt because it is so busy your not getting the best service. We had to ask all the time for things that were missing or if we needed extras. Shame because it is amazing. My friend at work had said the same on her last visit In December and she has been twice before and said it wasn’t like that.
It was a lovely experience for my cousin who was celebrating a special birthday. This was our second visit and loved every moment of our stay. Thank you
Suppose the waiter should be more active than the customers and require to ask us how was the food or introduce the dessert that not introduce in the menu. However, the waiter did not show up and make us feel sad about it. Besides, there are power cut and wifi is out of service that day..
Very quintessentially English. Lovey setting. Food was perfect and you can get more of whatever you wish and also try all different types of tea. Unfortunately we requested more sandwiches which took ages to come so we started on the scones which were delicious, especially with Fortnum and Mason jam and lemon curd. When the sandwiches did eventually arrive, we no longer wanted them and expressed our disappointment at the delay. Our waitress was very apologetic and when the bill arrived, 25% + service had been deducted. Apparently they had been very busy (700 covers) so the kitchen were not prepared. Our waitress (Ortenly, I think, from Argentina) was delightful and was very embarrassed when we gave her a tip.
Would definitely return but perhaps not at the weekend.
Slight delay to enter (10 mins), very busy time so service slightly slower than ideal, and had to ask twice for sandwich topup.
But food excellent and staff wonderfully polite and very helpful - especially when we left a bag behind!
Whole experience was wonderful. Service was faultless and the selection of teas and food items were all great. Can't wait for our next visit.
The staff were very attentive and the food was lovely
Left an awful taste in my mouth!
Booked afternoon tea online and was directed to Opentable to book. At every stage of Opentable it indicates the price for afternoon tea in the Jubilee tea room is £41+. Expensive perhaps but it is a nice treat. Or so I thought. HOWEVER on arriving you look through the menu and basic afternoon tea is £60. And then they ask for 12.5% service.
I.e. ultimately you are not going to get much change out of £70 for a cup of tea and a piece of cake!
The distinctly underhand pricing strategy left me feeling badly ripped off!
The least I would expect for that price is a clean plate without greasy watermarks! You would have thought they would be making enough margin to put some rinse aid in the dish washer!
- scratched cups (probably because they use a dishwasher to clean it)
- dishes with fluted golden edge
- mix of white and brown sugar
- frozen ham
- dry and cold scones
It was supposed to be the perfect present for my mom's 60 bday.
A magic day in London enjoying the "best" afternoon tea and attending the Phantom of the Opera.
I just damn myself for trying this place instead of visiting on more time Waldorf Hilton where two years ago I payed half of the price just 35 pounds instead of 62 +table service and it was the best afternoon tea ever.
Don't spend 80€ just for being at FORTNUM & Mason, the name, the history or the place makes non sense when the quality of the food is such low!
Our waiter Marianna was very nice and went ahead of our expectations by recommending different teas ! The only negative point would be once we order more salty things to another waiter we never received them.
It’s a wonderful experience, services there is excellent! Staffs there are nice and gave recommendations fit our needs!
If we go to London again, we would like to visit again
Superbe déjeuner. Serveurs très attentionnés, très agréables, aux petits soins. Très très bons sandwichs, scones, pâtisseries et superbe choix de thés. Le cadre est magnifique. Tout était parfait.
A wonderful afternoon tea and the perfect way to finish my UK trip. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was no sense of being rushed and the tea (Royal Blend) was incredible.
Very nice, elegant and tasty 😁
We enjoyed the whole experience and would highly recommend.
Irene was the perfect server. Sweet, attentive and professional.
First tea room experience was very cool and interesting, they took care of my gluten free needs 100%. However our server midway through was talking about how she was going to come "Refresh" our plates, etc during the entire team we were eating through them. Then she came over and told us something about her 2 year old and she was taking off and thank you. 30 minutes go by nobody comes to our table, nobody says anything to us, we have to flag down 2 or 3 people to finally get a manager to come over and apologize to us saying she was suppose to take over our table and forgot. Instead of comping the entire thing she only gave us a discount. So Fortnum & Mason Tea Room could use a manager who actually understands patrons and customer service, so next time will try somewhere else where managers actually care about their customers. They not only ditched us, but didn't refresh anything and after an hour of waiting we just wanted to get out of there.
Too expensive compared to what you got. Service was good, and the place was nice, but can get equally good food and tea somewhere else for half the price.
Amazing as usual- really good place to take friends visiting London
Everybody who visit to London should have an experience of afternoon tea at Fortnum and Maison. That would be a marvelous memory in whole life.
I just love this place , I would definitely return again
Excellent food, slight delay for our pre booked table but staff very accommodating and compensating. Very enjoyable experience. Menu offers a good choice.
We had afternoon tea for my husbands 50th Birthday and it was fantastic.
The young lady that looked after us called Anna could not do enough for us and was very polite and friendly, she made the experience even more fantastic
I came here with a friend for afternoon tea and it was lovely. Would highly recommend
Had a very lovely afternoon tea, we had Chris taking care of our table. He was very attentive and professional, we are very lucky to have him serve us. I will definitely recommend him to serve us again!
The sandwiches across both the guests did not feel or taste fresh which was disappointing.
Gluten free afternoon tea was amazing. The tea itself was to die for and the staff was super friendly and extremely attentive.
I went there with my 10yo daughter to celebrate the end of her exams, her first afternoon tea, and the staff could not have been nicer 10/10. They were able to advise us on what to chose and what tea would be suitable for a child. The food was really lovely too.
Jose - the best waiter ever.
Overall was very good. Just a scone was a bit too hard.
We were visiting the UK from Australia and wished to say thank you to two special friends of ours for their generous hospitality. We were going to the theatre that evening and had booked the Afternoon Tea as a treat. The whole experience, from the moment we arrived, was fantastic and fulfilled all our expectations. First rate service, extremely tasty and expertly prepared food.
We would strongly recommend this to others.
