GATO is Chef Bobby Flay's expression of Mediterranean food, drink, and design. The NoHo location is a 100-year-old building, and GATO is the first restaurant to reside there. GATO combines its NYC roots with a European sensibility and has a casual approach, a bustling environment, and a dedicated passion to its cuisine. The name GATO was inspired by a mysterious orange cat that walked through Mr. Flay's feet on Lafayette Street while he was waiting for a real estate broker to show him the space for the first time. The cat has not been seen since, but his initial appearance has made a permanent impression.

GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.

Excellent food, staff, and atmosphere. The food was very good, lots of delicious favors. Great wine list. My wife and I went there for an anniversary dinner and the staff could not been more gracious and accommodating.

The food on the menu was unexpected, certainly out of the usual. However, every dish that we tried was excellent - flavor combinations worked very well together. I would definitely visit this restaurant again and bring other friends.

The appetizer was below average, the little octopus piece in the middle of the dish was 1/3 burnt, and the fried oyster was cold and soggy. The timeliness was very off - it took forever to get the next dish. We had ordered sparkling water and were not finished with it, but the waiters went on and kept pouring flat tap water in our cups. For one of our main dishes, the linguine pasta, there was a chunk of noodles that were stuck together in a big lump. For over $125 per person Valetine’s Day dinner, we were highly disappointed in the overall experience. Felt like our money went to waste. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Outstanding food prepared with care and imagination.
We had an appetizer consiting of three small dishes, each of outstanding taste and some surprising ingredients. The rest was also really well done.
Wine by the glass has somewhat limited choices available.
Service was very attentive.
We were there on Valentine's day with a prix fix menu.
It was not cheap, but quite worth it.

We must have gone on a bad night. We read some great reviews about the place and we are fans of Bobby's TV shows but on this Monday he was NOT in the kitchen. That appears to have been the reason for the strangely slow service we received all night. It started right at the front door and cascaded through the wait staff and the food prep. Once we finally got our dinner, the food was good although the pork chop wasnt as juicy as it should have been. As I said, maybe just a bad night for them but its likely the only time we will ever eat there based on this. side note ... paella at that price and its just vegetarian?!

Food is ok; far poor as compared with classic Spanish food. The octopus is over cooked; shrimp is not fresh. I think that cooking team needs a better training in Spain!

This is one of my family's favorite restaurants. Food a great! Service was lacking this visit, not the servers problem they were very understaffed, Although, a manager eventually came over to apologize and comp our desserts, which was nice touch. But, I'd rather have had the service up to its usual level which compliments its great food! We will be back and hope that the service issue will be rectified by Bobby and senior management team,

The food was delicious if the portions a bit small for the price. The service was very poor and slow. We had multiple waitresses for our table and always had to track them down to follow up on an order or something we were missing. The staff seemed overwhelmed.

Server and manager couldn't have been more welcoming and efficient. Food excellent. My husband had to be prevented from licking the bowl which contained the tiramisu bread pudding

We had a lovely, relaxing Sunday Brunch. We statrted off with their appetizer plate followed by baked eggs with chorizo and the French toast. The French toast was particularly delicious. Our waiter was excellent — attentive and charming. The room was well designed and lent itself to a cozy dining experience. We will definitely come back for another meal.

Our server was excellent; he was very professional. We asked to be seated at a circular booth. It was not very crowded and we were told the only place we could sit was in the back with a banquette and two chairs; there were three of us. We were practically on top of the people on either side of us. The restaurant wasn't crowded.
The food did not meet our expectations. We are in the hospitality business. One of us is a professional chef in the industry for 35 years and I am a F the chicken salad and beef entree are both too small. The burger ordered by our twenty something was very good.
The dessert was very good, the bread pudding.

Went for brunch. Atmosphere is really nice. The bar area is gorgeous. Service was extremely attentive, and very good. Food was excellent, best food we had on our entire New York trip. Cocktails from the bar were great as well. Will definitely be a must visit every time we’re in the city. Can’t wait to go back.

Warm, welcoming, eclectic decor greet you as you walk in to Gato. The staff was just as welcoming and helpful with the wine and the menu. The octopus was flavorful and tender and the pork loin chop we tender and huge. We really enjoyed the bottle of Israeli wine that the sommelier recommended. Overall, another great Bobby Flay dining experience!

The restaurant was so warm and inviting from the minute we walked in the door. All of the staff were friendly and professional. Our dinner was incredibly delicious!! We were fortunate enough to find Bobby Flay at the bar; we went to say hello and he graciously shook our hands and thanked us for coming!

This restaurant is great! The food was top notch and met all our standards. Bobby Flay was even at the restaurant casually sitting at the bar when we went for dinner. It was a wonderful evening! Try the Jimmie drink and definitely have some dessert! Can’t wait to go back.

Went with a group of 8 people for brunch, as we all happened to be in the city at the same time (some from San Francisco, others from Boston). Drinks for the entire table were excellent, our waiter was attentive and helpful. We even got to meet Bobby at the end and get a picture. Will definitely go back next time we're in the city!

I live in the neighborhood, always walking by GATO and never going in. I had a friend in town and decided it was time to give it a try. We had a wonderful night and amazing food. Overall, the restaurant was a little bigger then I imagined, and much different then normal SOHO restaurants. It did have a bit of a touristy feel, but not overdone. We ate on a Wednesday night around 8:00pm

Still a great restaurant. A dying breed in decor in the sense that this is a full floor block from Lafayette to Crosby Street with great lighting and ambience. Chef Flay in the kitchen on a Tuesday nite no less, but he has trained his brigade well, so he was not on the line - more supervising. Service was excellent- Jorge super friendly guy. Food delivery not too rushed so you can relax between courses. wine and cocktails were great - wine tends towards Spanish but still some interesting other choices. Still a winner and I hope Bobby has a long term lease on this beautiful space!

We had visited Bar American (another Bobby Flay restaurant) on our last visit to NYC
This time we chose GATO - since my wife and I are both big 'Food Network' viewers / fans.
We of course expected to enjoy out visit to GATO - but when we saw that Bobby was actually working in the kitchen that night. We thought it couldn't get better - but we then realized that we decided to have dinner on the same night that Geoffrey Zakarian was celebrating a special event with many of his family and friends.
When one Iron Chef is cooking for a fellow Iron Chef...
It doesn't get much better than that!

Food is delicious, but the portions are tiny. Especially the appetizers and bar shareable menu are very very small. Absolutely delicious though and service was exceptional.
The place is super noisy. Came to dinner at 6pm hoping it wouldn’t be as loud, but we were shouting at each other to be heard.
