GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.
What Insiders Are Saying
Gato will remind you why Bobby Flay became famous in the first place - because he can cook.
Really enjoyed this year and last year’s visit to Gato.
Only disappointment with either visit was that we did not get to meet Chef Flay.
Maybe next year!
This was the best meal that I have ever had. The service was great and the food was world class.
The food was amazing. We got seated right next to kitchen which was not ideal but other then that it was great!
Overpriced for what it is, loud.
Always an excellent experience! Love the food, service and ambience! Highly recommend it!
Food was phenomenal. Went to NY city to celebrate my husband birthday and we made a reservation at the restaurant due that my husband and I are huge fans of Bobby Flay. To our surprise it was the BEST food we had in NY. By the way, we ate at other good restaurants (high end). The pasta plates were amazing. Will go back next time.
I must say that the food was absolutely delicious. I would definitely return next time we are in NYC and would try Bobby Flays other restaurants. The menu had food for everyone. Was a nice date night for my husband and I and the staff was awesome.
Ambiance and service was great. Food was just ok. Prices reasonable. Decent spot.
The grilled octopus never disappoints!
Excellent food. I’m a big Bobby flay fan and his food is truly spot on w flavor and textures. Every dish was excellent—we had 2 apps, 2 veg, 2 entrees. Can’t wait to come back to nyc. We’ll be back here!
The food was delicious! I recommend the pea and avocado smash
The restaurant and specially the attendant Emma were awesome; we will surely be back more times!
Had to wait 25 minutes for table after arriving on time Very noisy
Fantastic food and amazing service! Would not recommend if you’re looking for a romantic, quiet dinner. Gato is loud!!
Really creative food.
Each dish we shared was full of flavor. The oven roasted shrimp appetizer and eggplant tappas were everything you expect from the Bobby Flay. An explosion of flavor with great simplicity. The service was exceptional.
From walking in the door with the reception people, to the waiter, to the wine suggestion that was great and to the general manager stopping by to assure we were taken care of, everything was great.
As a returning customer I know the food will never disappoint.
As always Gato is the best!
Great food at Gato and the service is top notch. Very friendly and attentive wait staff and management to make it a pleasant dining experience. Food is creative and innovative and very flavorful. This was our second time at Gato and it is still as good as I remembered from the first experience when I actually met Bobby Flay!
I’ve been a customer in the past, and this was my first time back after a two year gap. The food was mediocre, but was most upsetting was where the hostess chose to seat us.
The restaurant was nearly empty when we sat, and remained nearly empty throughout the duration of our meal. For some reason unknown to me, we were seated at the back, right against a service area ordering kiosk. Between being slammed against that and the kitchen, the ambiance was pretty terrible. Uncomfortable to have a conversation with servers standing over us to place their orders. Why we couldn’t have been seated at any one of the other hundreds of vacant seats is beyond me.
Frankly, they might as well have sat us in the restroom.
Poor judgement, and that coupled with mediocre food leads me to think that this place is over.
Food was extraordinary
Casual setting but noise level felt like a Rock concert
First, let me say that the service is top notch. The cadence of delivery was perfect, our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, and the supporting wait staff kept the table clear and water filled without being obtrusive. Now the food. Wow. We tried a ridiculous anount of food and everything was outstanding. I could not tell you what we liked best because it was all excellent. When you go, and you should go, try as much as you can and don't be afraid to be adventurous.
When the roasted corn side dish stands out, you know the rest is not up to Bobby Flay standards. Stick with Mesa. Sea bass was a big dissapointment.
We are visiting NYC from DC and my wife and daughter are fans of Bobby Flay and wanted to try out his restaurants. The service was nice and we liked everything that we ordered. We willing definitely consider coming back here on our next visit.
We had dinner at GATO on Fathers Day . It was our first time going to this restaurant.
The food was amazing and good size portions. The lamb sausage pizza was remarkable and the cheesecake was the best cheese cake we've ever had. The service was excellent. I highly recommend GATO if your looking for great food quality and excellent service.
The hostess told me they did not have available high chairs for my baby and they couldn’t accommodate the stroller either, she literally told me to put my baby on a regular chair (she is 9months old) when I told her She will fall if she sits on the chair so she answered me to put her on my lap!!!! She was so nasty! I talked to somebody else and they allowed me to put the stroller next to my table. When I got to my table I saw two more tables with strollers next to their tables! My salmon salad wasn’t good at all!
The restaurant was just ok for a Sunday lunch the other day. Very salty chicken salad. It is pretty close to the Angelika.
Gato is my new favorite NY restaurant...!
Not a single bad bite... everything was exceptional...!
Amazing. Great service all around from hostess to wait staff! Food was delicious. Definitely get the octopus and lamb pizza!
Absolutely loved Gato! The restaurant itself was beautiful, and the staff was beyond amazing. Our waiter heard it was my birthday, and he went above and beyond for us! I will 100% come back. The food was to die for!! So delicious!
My wife had the fried chicken and it was excellent. I had the porterhouse pork chop ordered medium. Pork chop was over cooked and dry. I mentioned to the waiter (who gave excellent service). While I didn’t want to receive anything for this feedback, no manager or anyone else responded to this feedback. Overall very disappointing for a Bobby Flay restaurant.
Unbelievably delicious dinner! Loved every bite! I ordered the halibut and it was extraordinary. Would love to go back again soon!
So many flavors and not a bad dish! Artisan cocktails are also a nice feature. Easy task get to as nearby many subway lines.
The octopus appetizer was tender and delicious...reminded us of the same in Portugal recently.
Emma our server (a fellow Canadian) was amazing. It was our anniversary and she helped make it very special. The mussels and pork chop were the best we have ever had. The French Martinis were also better than any we ever had.
We highly recommend Gato especially for special occasions.
Food is just incredible! Reasonable prices for an Iron Chef (The GOAT).
Thank you so much to all the staff for making our dinner so amazing. We had a horrible experience on our first night in New York when the restaurant we had reserved cancelled our reservation for a private event and did not bother to contact us to let us know. When you found this out everyone went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and took excellent care of us. The burrata was exceptional!
Really, really awful service. Had to ask random servers walking by repeatedly where our server was to even get our order placed. After we got our drinks and FINISHED them...took over 20 minutes after they were finished for our server to even swing by and see if we wanted to order another glass of wine. Almost went to the bar to start ordering additional drinks. Food was also far from exceptional. Pizza was ok. The rest was not up to my expectations.
Beautiful food, really great service and a great nyc space. The smart casual dress requirements are not needed as there was a chap there in shorts . But if that's the worse that I can think of, shows you how good it was
Probably my favorite restaurant
The receptionist area could use some improvement. Saying goodbye to patrons post dinner would be important in my view.
