Named after Nicholas Hawksmoor's Christchurch Spitalfields, just down the road, Hawksmoor Spitalfields opened in 2006 to rave reviews, reigniting London's love affair with steak. Hawksmoor Spitalfields is an unpretentious, quality obsessed steak house, serving only the best British steaks, simply cooked over a real charcoal grill. The 115 cover restaurant also has an extensive wine list featuring favourite small producers and big vineyards alike.

What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation

Hawksmoor Spitalfields was one of the first steakhouses in town, and it’s still one of the best. Finishing with toffee pudding is mandatory.

This restaurant has a wonderful, chilled-out but upmarket vibe. You really feel like you’re ‘fine dining’, especially with the low lighting come evening time and candlelit tables. I adored the food. Bone marrow starter was delectable and flavoursome. My lamb main and my husband’s steak main was delicious and cooked to perfection. We even got free salted caramel rolos at the end! (I think our waiter was charmed by our love of food!) Great place!

The food was excellent. Not just the steaks, the scallops and lobsters were perfect. The staff were excellent too. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Thank you Hawksmoor!

Fantastic ribeye steak (many steak options on the menu), extensive accompanying wine list - the kale and garlic side is also recommended. Helpful staff. Good for a special occasion, prices higher than other steak restaurants but high quality.

This was our first time at the Hawksmoor in Spitalfields - incredible experience, incredible food and the service was second to none. Will be back as soon as possible. Thank you for a perfect date night.

The steak did not taste fresh, as though it was quickly thawed out and cooked with minimal attention. It was very overpriced for the equivalent quality of meat. Ambiance of restaurant just dragged you down, it was murky, unenthusiastic and slightly constraining. Had to walk outside for a breath of fresh air to feel as though my partner and I weren’t another bill calculation or mechanical cog. Nothing stood out as repulsive or made me ill so this may sound overly harsh but I hope my honestly negative impression of the establishment can inform others on what to expect.

Superb red wine and great chat from the sommelier and, as always, the best steak in London.

Some ratings seem harsh but service was slow and then service charge was pretty high. Atmosphere was not amazing as both tables next to us complained audibly about speed of service.

We were also given complimentary mushrooms but they were then added to the bill.

Food was delicious and service were very nice and friendly when they eventually came to us. I recognise the business of a Sunday evening though so wouldn’t hold it against them!

Thought it was a bit cheeky to add additional service charge even though it says optional?

Food and the service was outstanding, however what made our visit is that the team paid attention to our special requirements and made our visit even more joyful. We will definitely come back again. Shonda and Vonda.

We have eaten at Hawksmoor many times, both at Spitalfields and Seven Dials. The service is always friendly and efficient, and the staff are delightful. It does tend to get noisy at times, but the food is so good, that's a small price to pay!

Amazing food and wine, lovely personnel, charming location.
Quite slow in being served, but it was a very busy Saturday evening, it’s understandable.
I’ll be back soon.

The venue is cozy and rustic, but at a very high level. Service was friendly, not overly so, rather artificially friendly. Drinks, especially starters, were rather expensive. The food was good. We had steak with several sides. The steak was cooked to order. Not the best steak we had but it was ok. The sides, especially the spinach, were delicious.

Quality steakhouse where every bite was savory, but also with simple and quality ingredients. Always order and indulge too much, but never regret it. Only detractor was the slightly elevated noise level, but it is understandable as it's a very popular and busy steakhouse.

Excellent food and service (up until the end). When I asked to take the optional service charge off the waiter made considerably less effort - even ignoring us when we said goodbye on our way out! Removing the service charge didn’t reflect poor service, just rather high price of the meal overall.

Found it funny how we were less disregarded by the waiter on our way out!

Having been to the Hawksmoor branch several times before, this was a really poor experience. The dinner service started well and all was goind well. We then got our mains and we found the steaks were not great, the rib eyes were tasteless, for a meat that is marbled and sauces did not even help improve the taste. We tried to get a waiter/waitress attention, but everyone seemed to be preoccupied. By the time we managed to get someone’s attention all other people had finished their main courses. It then took a further 20 minutes before we were able to get the staff’s attention and had to ask them to clear the table. Overall a very unsatisfactory visit to Hawksmoor this time .... felt as though the ‘C team’ was on duty on a Friday evening.

Another good trip to the Hawksmoor with friends. The food was its normal high quality. The wine selection is extensive allowing you to be more frugal if you wish whilst not sacrificing quality.
The service was good and unobtrusive. our waiter was attentive without being overbearing and happy to help with anything. Needless to say I will be back again soon.

I was very satisfied with all the food I ordered. I had a lobster which was extremely succulent and big. The best fries to get are the beef dripping fries. Try to stay away from the mash & gravy as that wasnt all that. Also the cocktails were delicious, I have nothing to truly fault this restaurant on.

Fabulous food, but the large table next to us were so loud that we couldn't actually hold an audible conversation. Maybe the smaller and larger tables could be better distributed. It ruined an otherwise fabulous meal.

Great menu and no doubting the high quality of the meat but the Chateaubriand that my party was served was almost burnt on the outside and past being medium rare on the inside. When served it was in really thick slices - really gave the impression that the chef didn't care.....which is shame because every other time I have been to Hawksmoor I have have had no hesitation to score 5 stars for every aspect of the meal.
I won't be put off and can still recommend Hawksmoor.

We booked in for roast dinner on Sunday, when arriving and being seated and after waiting 10 minutes w were told the roast dinners had all sold out, at no point had anyone mentioned this had we have known we would have left and gone somewhere else.

Whilst there is a small comment on the menu about roast running out past 5pm then it should at least be communicated on arrival.

We were then seated to a very loud table of women who were shrieking they're heads off. We felt obliged to stay for dinner having already ordered drinks were then told the standard menu was the only option, in terms of value and experience i left with a bill for well over £100 and felt like i had hardly eaten anything.

A very deflating experience to say the least.
