Tom Pemberton, formerly head chef of St. John Bread and Wine, uses the best nationally sourced, seasonal produce, placing the provenance of meat, fish and vegetables at the centre of the endeavour.
Hereford Road aims to provide a genuine neighbourhood restaurant in residential Notting Hill Gate. It is also be worth a journey for people who value excellent food. Friendly, informed staff introduce the daily changing menu that champions well sourced British food at reasonable prices.
We decided to choose from the set menu, quite limited as only 3 choices per course but had a great smoked eel salad and then delicious fresh mackerel with fennel. We asked for some aioli sauce which they brought and the cheese [desert course] was good too. Only slightly slow service but understandable as everything is made expressly. The restaurant is a local neighbourhood one, really quite full for a Friday lunchtime , not too formal but still smart. This is the second time I've eaten there and would really recommend it.
The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. I loved the small tables for two at the front of the restaurant. It was the best potted crab I have ever had. Such reasonable prices and there was nothing to fault, so will be returning again and again.
Love Hereford Road, it's always good, but tonight was fabulous.
The menu is always concise, which I like, and full of seasonal ingredients. This time we ate smoked mackerel and rabbit terrine to start, followed by duck leg and forerib of beef, all dishes were excellent.
Service is always friendly and attentive and the wine list good and reasonably priced.
Only in the neigbourhood for 4 weeks but if it was longer we'd definitely be back. Treated with magnificent disdain by the waitress when we, (well my wife) wasn't ready to order. Totally deserved, very funny and absolutely right.
The ultimate neighbourhood restaurant. Delicious food, good value and very professional service. A really nice place for supper.
Hereford Road is a long standing favourite. The food is healthy, creative and different. The service is relaxed and measured. Don’t expect a quick meal, but that’s not the point.
Consistently good, we love it
Wasn’t that impressed with the food - a bit tasteless and nothing that special. Didn’t think it was worth the money paid.
Really great food and the dessert was phenomenal. The value for the money was simply superb!
How can I translate that gustatory experience into words?...Frankly, it isn't possible. Like the mirth experienced when you first lay eyes on your newborn infant; tasting the food at Hereford Rd. transcends physical barriers and meanders into the spiritual, without the messy afterbirth situation. If there was a hole in your life that you couldn't seem to fill, try the date sticky toffee pudding. Vegan? Not any more. I'm not sure if they fed their cows heroin, because the salt beef sandwich is guaranteed convert the most hardened plant-based dieter into a t-rex who just came back from a long run. If I spoke of the fish stock, the heavens would never forgive me for telling all their secrets. Go. Just go. It's three michelin stars for the price of a rest-stop Wimpy. Great staff, minimalist yet engaging interior, prime West London location...you have no excuse.
It was OK. That's about the best one can say. The food was decent, but I was expecting more based on the reviews and reputation. The service was grumpy at best. The restaurant was at 25% capacity, but our order was taken about 25 minutes after arriving; our plates cleared about 20 minutes after we finished; and we had to practically chase a waiter down for any sort of water, second glass of wine, etc. The only good thing I could say is the staff spent a lot of time -- heads down and backs turned to the customers -- cleaning the glasses, and the ovens. I wouldn't return here.
Londons best kept secret
Well where do I start, what an absolutely disgusting meal. I ordered the two course meal the starter was crayfish & rocket, which was saturated in balsamic vinegar. It looked like somthing from a swap, the main was hake which was edible and nothing great to write home about.
I would not go back if you paid me. The only thing that was tasty was the bread
What a disappointment! The food was no way as good as it used to be .
Would I ever go back? The answer is no. I give them 6 months.
I always have great meal at Hereford Rd - delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Pretty noisy but the tables for 2 opp the bar are quiet and cosy - always a treat
Great food, friendly staff. Great value.
Fresh ingredients, best food in the area, friendly service, great architecture
Warm, friendly ambiance and great menu of rustic offal and game beautifully executed
I live locally and love coming here. The food is incredible and I recently had the best duck leg I’ve ever had! The service was also better than last time. It appears the grumpy / unwelcoming manager is no more which is great! Couldn’t love the food more.
Great food & service as always. Our new regular!
Brilliant, as always. Amazing value set lunch. Lovely staff.
I love the food here. I can’t get here very often but if I lived nearby I would eat here frequently. Perfect.
The ultimate neighbourhood restaurant - very informal, excellent food and highly professional staff. So nice to see everything cooked at an open kitchen right within the restaurant
I love this place - absolutely my kind of food. Simple, tasty and great quality
Beautiful in every way . Well done Hereford Road!
We love the restaurant but the lack of staff waiting on you is frustrating. Took them 20 mins to come to our table and even those cocktails order.
a wonderful find, understated, fabulous food, relaxed and refined
Aside from the less than friendly manager, the food was exceptional. Simple food made using incredible produce. Healthy but tasty. We live locally so will definitely be going back. Our waitress was also lovely.
This is a truly excellent uncomplicated restaurant. Small scale menu beautifully cooked with an element of surprise. (My only complaint - minor - on a cold winter's evening was that the temprature in the main restaurant downstairs was a couple of dgerees too cold. People wearing outdoor wear etc. Easy to fix.)
Top quality, unpretentious and delicious food at reasonable (London) prices. Great service. Good ambiance! Looking forward to returning!
Classy food, friendly staff, nice informal atmosphere. What's not to like?
Went on a very quiet Tuesday night. Menu wasn’t flashy - liver, skate, brill, potter crab, pork but wow, it was cooked exceptionally well. Bavette steak was one of the best I’ve had both in terms of flavour and cooking. Comfortable/cosy restaurant but slightly lacked atmosphere because it was so quiet but don’t let that detract you from going.
The food was fine but not great. We went for Sunday lunch and were very disappointed with the small amount of food we received - 2 roast potatos (which weren’t crispy unfortunately and neither was the Yorkshire pudding served with my beef). 2 very thin slices of beef. Staff were lovely but atmosphere but cold.
As always totally delicious. I hardly ever eat meat now but had the pork belly and it simply melted in the mouth. Potted crab delicious as always and so was the amazing treacle tart!
Delectable and interesting take on british food, raised to higher standards. Great service and good suggestions on pairings by the glass.
The food was unusual and different from the average restaurant. Tasty and I particularly enjoyed the warm rice pudding and jam.
Very much enjoyed a 3-course meal here last week.
Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
We’ll definitely come back.
Wonderful set lunch - delicious and excellent value
Makes one proud to be British. Good native ingredients well cooked and presented and deftly served.
It’s simply just great great cooking! Nothing more to say really. Just delicious food made with tip top ingredients. Front of house are fab! We go regularly and I must say, our experience so far has been everything absolutely delish!
