It was definitely an off night for the server, so much that he apologized without us speaking about it, asked that we didn’t leave a tip & even suggested he wouldn’t blame us for walking out on the check! While we left half of our normal amount suggesting it would go to the bus staff who was spot on. Too bad, the food is good but the experience was horrible.

My mother and I dined this evening and had no complaints during our visit; the food was great and the servers were friendly. However, the problem arose after we left. My husband booked the reservation for us with his Open Table account, but did not join us on the trip. At 9pm Hawaii time, which is 2am back home, I get a call from my husband saying that the restaurant has called him 7 times and left several messages; the most recent one saying that we skipped out on our bill and they are going to press charges on us. I immediately called the restaurant and explained that we paid with cash as soon as the manager dropped off the bill to our table. Once I explained it to the server on the phone, he apologized and said he knew what happened, but didn't elaborate. I just don't understand how they think that we could have skipped out on the bill?!?!? We clearly paid it when the manager brought it to us, they could easily check the cameras to verify. We stayed and talked to our server on the way out for several minutes. And finally, we booked with Open Table which has ALL of our information! Hopefully this was just a mistake made by the restaurant and not a scam that they tried to pull on two women visiting alone. We have dined at this restaurant each time we visit Waikiki, but will never be dining here again. I don't feel comfortable going back and hope my unfortunate situation will caution you if you decide to visit or at least deter you from paying your bill with cash. They truly owe my husband an apology for calling multiple times at 2am and threating to prosecute him/us unless he calls them back. The actions and despicable behavior exhibited from the restaurant staff this evening is unacceptable and they deserve to be reprimanded for it.

The service was extremely slow and when the food finally arrived it was under seasoned and burnt. One of the omelets ordered, arrived an hour after we ordered. The server’s excuse was that they had new cooks in the back. Not a a very good first impression.

We were seated promptly upon our arrival. Our waiter, Jeremy took our drink and appetizer order. After about 10 minutes our appetizer arrived but no drinks. Jeremy explained that the bartender was slammed. Shortly after we finished our appetizer, the drinks arrived. We ordered dinner and a glass of wine. Dinner was Salmon Piccata and Chicken Piccata. Dinner was served but no wine. Wine arrived about halfway through my wife’s dinner. I say my wife’s dinner because my Chicken Piccata was so dry and overdone it tasted like shoe leather. It was hard to cut through and harder to chew. The Salmon was ok. As hard as Jeremy tried, the overall service was very bad only surpassed by the terrible food.

We had an amazing meal. The lasagna was world classs! My wife had the Gnocci it was rich and yummy. They had a jazz band playing…. Which set the mood for a very romantic evening. Apollo was our server , very personable and enjoyable! Oh yeah…. The lobster dip is a great appetizer!!!!

The server was very friendly, and service was extremely fast, but the food was terrible. Worst pizza I’ve ever had - sauce had no flavor, cheese tasted like grocery store shredded mozzarella. Caesar salad was limp and flavorless. Lettuce looked old, dressing was bland. No hint of anchovies, even though the menu specifically said it has anchovies. Spaghetti with tiger prawns was also very bland, and the pasta was over cooked. Just a really disappointing, overly expensive meal. Huge disappointment.

This place deserves less than a one star rating. They NEED a new GM, does not know how to run a restaurant operation and lacks customer service skills. I made reservations for Mother’s Day a week in advance only to be told when we arrived that they could not seat us because they were short handed. As the waiter was explaining the situation to us, a guy in a suit squeezed by without even an “excuse me” little less an apology or acknowledgment of the situation of what was going on. The waiter then asks us if we’d like to speak to the GM (Christopher Lord), to my surprise it was the guy in the suit who tried to weasel his way out of the situation. He proceeds to tell us that this situation wasn’t his fault and there was nothing he could do for us. He says that he ran the crew a little short because there wasn’t too many reservations for lunch that day. (I’m sorry, I never worked a day in my life in the service industry but I know better than to think that it wouldn’t be busy on MORHER’S DAY. On top of that you’re located in Waikiki, what makes you think you wouldn’t have “walk ins”? And to top this all off, I got an email the next day from open table saying that the restaurant said we were a “no show” ! Needless to say, I will never be dining here or recommending this place to anybody ever!! And hopefully the owners of this establishment read this and think twice about who they have running this establishment

Aloha, I'm very sorry for your experience. I planned and staffed for Mother's Day the best we could, but we were understaffed. Believe me, if I could have hired another cook I would have. Like many Restaurants during these times, finding good help is a struggle. We have since found some good help for the morning and I personally hope you do try us again. Please ask for the General Manager so that we can make sure you have the experience you deserve, have a wonderful day!

Il Lupino’s poor service was outdone by their even worse food. Such a shame, because the restaurant is in a beautiful setting and has so much potential, but the owner / manager clearly doesn’t care. They keep the tables filled by glacier speed service, so the restaurant appears popular. The couple next to us spoke outwardly to the waiter about the “awful food.”

From reading the reviews, I’m sure this restaurant is fantastic. We on the other hand had an entirely different experience. We got there earlier than our reservation and they were happy to seat us during their happy hour. I ordered a glass of wine, and my husband an iced tea. I got my wine fairly promptly and the iced tea as well. From there it went down hill. We decided to order all of our food at the same time, not because we wanted some kind of discount for happy hour, we just knew what we wanted. For some reason our server heard my order, although the “kitchen made the appetizer “ instead of the meal I ordered, which btw the server clarified with me and although both my husband and I stated his meal, all the server heard was the appetizer my husband ordered. Ok, we then waited at least 20 minutes before we saw the server again. We asked about my husband’s beer order and the bruschetta appetizer we ordered. Server said “oh I was waiting to bring it all out at the same time” (!?!?!!!?!). So. we waited 15-20 minutes longer and lo and behold, my meal was served…..and only my meal. Turns out server only heard my husband’s order of the appetizer and he never got his meal!!!!!!! No offer to make it right, no apologies, just gave my husband bruschetta for his meal. Again, I’m sure the restaurant is amazing from the reviews we read, but I think for some reasons our server didn’t care about serving us. BTW, his loss. We ALWAYS tip at least 20%. Again MY food was good. Maybe get there AFTER happy hour 🤷‍♀️

We live in Waikiki and Il Lupino is perfect for late afternoon drinks and small dishes. We have had dinner also and I recommend Il Lupino for pasta dinner.

Our waiter was awful, extremely rude. He never offered his name but he wore a silver “wine cup” around his neck. As mentioned never told us his name, or offered specials, asked about our food, asked if we wanted drink refills - very dismissive of us as if we were wasting his time. When filling our water glasses he spilled water on the table. We asked for parm cheese and it was everywhere, including the inside of my purse. 3 of us got a pizza and I think it was Stouffers, absolutely nothing to write home about. The 4th couple split a seafood pasta that they said was wonderful. Ambiance was nice but other than that I would never recommend this place.

We had a great time dining here and the experience was made 100x better with our server Moi. He was personable, and gave great recommendations. Everyone was nice but Moi takes the cake with service. Wish I could have tipped more. I had the chicken parm which was not too heavy but very flavorful and my date had one of the specialty pizzas and it sure was special. Will dine here again!

Food was excellent, so good we decided to go back two days later… Only to be greeted by the hostess who informed us they were only excepting reservations. Much disappointed we decided to check OpenTable… And found openings all evening! So they wouldn’t take us at the door, but they could see us right away via OpenTable? What is up with that?

We have gone to this restaurant for years. The food is great. However, I was disappointed in the portions of bruschetta, as I have pictures from a couple of years ago that had much more generous portions. The new help can definitely learn from past employees to be more attentive. Beautiful setting inside and out on the terrace facing the greenery of Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

It took 25 mins for waiter to even check in me for drinks / water, despite the place being absolutely empty. Food: mediocre, lacking flavor. Atmosphere: stuffy, you’re paying for the table to be loaded with glass and silverware, not for quality of food. Unless you sit on patio and tables are embarrassingly spartan: a cheap table mat, and that’s about it. Service: slow and inattentive. Price: expensive. There are much better fine dining experiences closeby. Don’t waste your time with this place

The food and service here were excellent, though a bit pricey. They have a reasonable wine list however this particular night they were all out of pinot grigio, my favorite. The bartender went out of his way to give me a couple of other wines to taste before choosing. They have a Happy Hour menu from 1-6pm, that has much reduced prices on both food and wine. Patio seating is the best. Located on the ground floor of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Centre, at Seaside and Kalakaua Ave, right across from where they used to have live Hawaiian entertainment. They also have an indoor and outdoor bar seating.
