Discover Rising Sun
Rising Sun is a village in Ohio close to the historic Fort Meigs Battlefield, which played a part in the War of 1812. This community is know for its family-owned pubs that feature Irish stouts and microbrews created in nearby breweries. The pubs serve up dishes with local ingredients like smoked cheddar and Swiss cheeses made from milk produced at Ohio dairy farms. The community also has bakeries and coffee shops, many of which offer specialty pastries made from authentic Italian and German recipes. Some of the German pastries to try include aachener printen, apfelstrudel, apfelkuchen and sugared Berliner doughnuts filled with strawberry, raspberry, lemon or blueberry preserves. Enjoy them with hot coffee for breakfast or a mid-day snack.
