Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls. In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients. Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

I've never been to Cooper's Hawk. We were there for Father's Day / birthday celebration with my parents, 90 and 99, and sibling's family. The food is amazing and the prices are reasonable. Once my parents realized that the "bin numbers" by the name of each food weren't the prices :), we all had a great time! I wish I could name my server by name so I could call him out for excellent service. He was blond, with a trim beard, and a very patient manner. When you're in your 90s, everything is more complicated. His suggestions were also first rate, both wine and food. Between us we tried the grouper, a burger, the quinoa salad, one of the chicken dishes, the seafood bisque and a chicken sandwich. Everyone loved their meals. My only complaint, and this isn't minor: If you need a wheelchair or use a cane, the restaurant entrance is only barely disability friendly. You have to drive along the east side of the building on a road with a very steep downward angle, and let your passengers out at that angle. From there, they can walk onto the sidewalk and take a short walk to the front door. My mom uses a cane and my dad isn't very steady at 99 years old. It's hard enough to get in and out of the car, and the road angle was scary. It was a slow process, there's no pull-out, and there were cars going by. Thankfully some diners coming out helped my parents from the car to the curb, allowing me to move the vehicle. Then, once in, the young folks at the reception desk guided my parents to an incredibly long stairway instead of offering them an elevator. I was parking the car and when I got in and figured it out, I was mortified. I understand that young people do not realize how frail and vulnerable my parents are, but... that should be standard practice. I have to say, I educated them. Otherwise it was a very special evening. I'll definitely go back, but I won't take my parents there again.

My husband and I went out with a couple of new friends for Father’s Day to blue sushi sake. As they are both not familiar with the varieties of sushi, we were able to broaden their pallets by having them enjoy the multiple offerings that blue sushi has to offer. We have definitely made new believers. Thank you once again to the blue sushi sake management and staff for providing another excellent dining experience.
