Rocky Bottoms started out as an 1800s brick kiln with a purpose to fire bricks. Eventually the brick kiln was unable to compete with larger competitors and closed down after WW2. Since this time the brick kiln has offered itself as agricultural storage until it collapsed and stood derelict.In 2008 the brick kiln’s potential and need of restoration was spotted by local fishing family; The Matthews. After years of love and attention, Rocky Bottoms, as we know it today was born. Our doors opened in May 2015, just in time for the start of the crab season. We stayed at the Plough Inn for 3 nights and ate there on the first evening. We already had plans for the other meals as we were at a wedding and meeting family. Fish and chips - lovely big portion! Chunky chips were great. Veggie sausage and mash - good portion and served with fresh vegetables and onion gravy. Nicely presented. The dessert menu is huge! Lots of options including sundaes, Mr Whippy ice cream with various yummy additions. A few traditional desserts such as apple crumble (was delicious and came with plenty of custard) and Black Forest gateau (light and delicious). Friday night - was busy with a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Didn’t wait too long for our food. Family-friendly. Plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend.
