The Tavern which overlooks the Litchfield Green, is the oldest public building in town and one of the oldest penal facilities in the state. It was built in 1812 to serve as a jail for British prisoners during the War of 1812. A cell block and a three-story wing with additional cell blocks, which now is part of the restaurant’s bar area, was added in 1846. When that center closed, the state decided to sell it.The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and features “American Tavern Food” with Craft Beers and Cocktails made with local spirits. We enjoyed a fantastic sunset drink at the Verdict rooftop bar and a fabulous meal at the Courtroom restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our waitress suggested a wine choice that perfectly complimented my fish. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly and the accompanying fries were great. Everything was a good value for the price. I highly recommend this venue.

Everything was a solid 10. The unassuming exterior belies the elegant ambience inside the restaurant. Food was outstanding, starting with the creative and tasty amuse. The appetizer of beet and apple was delicious and the main course of salmon was great and presented beautifully. Our waiter Julian gets 10 out of 5 stars.
