The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs. The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever. The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Drink sare local and international craft beers & wines from stellar producers.

Elephant & Castle Prince Street opened in Lower Manhattan in ’73 across from St Vincent’s Hospital where George had worked as an oncologist since the 1950’s. After two decades of short lunch breaks where he could never get anything he wanted to eat, finally he retired to a life of eating everything he wanted to eat, in his own restaurant with a special name. His passion and obsession for quality was infectious and E&C became a New York classic within a few years. Doors opened in a very different and quiet Temple Bar in January 1989 and by Summer of that year the queues had already started for our fantastic food and spectacular atmosphere! Outside the world has greatly changed, but inside our swinging doors we try to keep things just the way they were.

The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. Much like our award-winning sister restaurant next door, The Winding Stair, we feel like we are custodians of something very special... a piece of history (James Joyce worked here, how unbelievable is that?!) and we must do it proud! Spanning over four floors and with a glorious roof terrace overlooking the River Liffey. The Woollen Mills is quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale. We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a coffee and bun, a plate of Irish fish and chips, a place to score a casual bite befre the nearby theatres and cinemas or sit with seven courses of Irish antipasti, burrata, crab, lamb or cauliflower steak, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge with a fine bottle of red or a craft beer. We hope we do it well.

My waitress Marina was a star. Very nice chat, checked on us the perfect amount, and was always ready to get us anything we needed. The interior is lovely and the food was very good. A bit high in price for the quality of the food, but we expected as much for vegan options. Overall a great experience, and we’d love to come again.

We love the Winding Stair and make sure to include a visit every time we are over. Lunch was leisurely with warm professional service. We enjoyed a perfect glass of Rosé btg with our charcuterie board (sourced from local pigs) and also shared an earthy, perfectly balanced mushroom soup to start. The pork chop we shared was juicy and delicious but the rosti potato and fennel purée stole the show. Finished with an exquisite dessert of rhubarb with Chantilly cream and this surprising orange crunch that brought the otherwise transcendent dessert to a new level. This meal was perfect, leisurely, and an excellent start to our week in Dublin. We will never stop adding The Winding Stair to our itinerary!

I'm a regular at Andhra Bhavan. I am from the south of India so whenever I miss or crave south Indian food I find myself at the restaurants doorsteps. They have a very good vegetarian fare of Dosas (Indian pancakes), idlis (steamed rice cakes), Vada (Savory donut) chaats (india. Streetfood/tapas). They also have a good assortment of non vegetarian dishes that are on the spicier side but very much to my taste. The staff are friendly and attentive for most part, but given how busy it is always it can be hard for them to keep up. Go here for the food and to try things from the menu that you won't usually find in your standard Indian restaurant from the west.
