The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs. The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever. The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Drink sare local and international craft beers & wines from stellar producers.

The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. Much like our award-winning sister restaurant next door, The Winding Stair, we feel like we are custodians of something very special... a piece of history (James Joyce worked here, how unbelievable is that?!) and we must do it proud! Spanning over four floors and with a glorious roof terrace overlooking the River Liffey. The Woollen Mills is quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale. We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a coffee and bun, a plate of Irish fish and chips, a place to score a casual bite befre the nearby theatres and cinemas or sit with seven courses of Irish antipasti, burrata, crab, lamb or cauliflower steak, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge with a fine bottle of red or a craft beer. We hope we do it well.

Elephant & Castle Prince Street opened in Lower Manhattan in ’73 across from St Vincent’s Hospital where George had worked as an oncologist since the 1950’s. After two decades of short lunch breaks where he could never get anything he wanted to eat, finally he retired to a life of eating everything he wanted to eat, in his own restaurant with a special name. His passion and obsession for quality was infectious and E&C became a New York classic within a few years. Doors opened in a very different and quiet Temple Bar in January 1989 and by Summer of that year the queues had already started for our fantastic food and spectacular atmosphere! Outside the world has greatly changed, but inside our swinging doors we try to keep things just the way they were.

Happy's Bar & Street Food started out as a month long Pop Up Fried Chicken joint serving out of a hatch on Dorset Street in December of 2020. One or two pop ups afterwards led us to our first permanent location on Aston Quay. Located just beside Temple Bar we found our permanent home. Fried Chicken is our thing, and always will be, but we needed to add to that. A cocktail menu of contempary cocktails with a Happy Endings twist, giant cocktail buckets, super crisp world beers and small plates inspired from Street Food dished around the world, Happy's Bar & Street Food was born. With a very sustainable approach to design, all chairs and plates where sourced second hand, nothing matched. Unconventional, eccentric and unapologetic. The chaos was the charm really. Thats still the way today, but we love it. Constantly eveolving, you wouldnt know what you might see next, come check us out.
