A charming 15th century coaching inn, The Bay Horse in Hurworth has been beautifully refurbished bringing with it some wonderful modern décor whilst managing to retain it’s characteristic charm. Greeted upon entry with a roaring open fire and a friendly team behind the bar, you’ll feel welcomed immediately. An eclectic drinks choice offers everything from local ales in traditional dimpled pint pots through to classic cocktails, with a varied wine list to match any palate. Menus change seasonally and are comprised mostly of classic dishes given a modern twist. With the kitchen continuously experimenting with new flavours & cooking methods, it is easy to see why it has been one of the regions most celebrated venues in the last decade. Dining is split over two floors with the same delicious menus and attentive service throughout. The Bay Horse has achieved many awards and has been included in the Michelin guide since 2008.

    This was my second visit to the cellar door the last one being over three years ago. The decor is very modern bright and welcoming but it was quite chilly.. The staff are attentive and professional and the gluten free menu is good but I would have liked more gluten free desserts. The food is lovely very high quality.

    Very welcoming staff giving great service. We shared a cold starter; beetroot salad with traditional bread. My lamb and aubergine main was delicious as was my friend’s spicy prawn dish. All washed down with a nice Shiraz.

    We had a lovely family meal, the staff were pleasant helpful and friendly, plenty of choice on the salad bar (not just salad ) the creamy garlic mushrooms were really tasty, the meat service was great and they were tasty and lean nd came round regularly no waiting for food . If you wanted a certain type of meat you only had to ask Overall we had a lovely evening it was nice and quiet as it wasn’t busy (Wednesday evening 6.30pm ) Highly recommended and we will definitely be coming back thank you
