Midtown Oyster Bar
Our two story building offer 2 bar areas, the first floor tavern and the second floor Burgee Bar. Located right on Thames Street, there is no better place in town to watch the hustle and bustle of downtown Newport. Our tavern area has high top tables for a casual, bar atmosphere, where you can gather with friends to enjoy a great meal, or a few beverages. Three dining rooms and two outside decks allow for plenty of dining space as well as the availability for private parties. Whether you are looking for casual snacks and cocktails with friends or a formal dining experience, Midtown Oyster Bar has everything you could possibly be looking for.
Great oysters - noise level on 1st floor high - sit on 2ed for quieter dinning experience
Staff was great - very responsive
Good seafood at decent prices. Wonderful oyster selection!
We were seated on the terrace upstairs and the dining experience was great. We were celebrating our anniversary and the atmosphere was just right. The server was very nice and attentive to our needs and the food did not disappoint us!! We went to three restaurants in Newport and Midtown Oyster Bar had the best oysters and the server was the most knowledgeable about the oysters. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Newport!!
Another great dinner here. Fresh seafood, great service.
Great time with delicious food. Great date night in Newport! Will be back again soon
The Midtown Oyster Bar has a great selection of oysters, there were 11 varieties available when we dined there. The food is very good but very expensive for a bar like atmosphere, dinner cost us $180 for two, no alcohol. That's fine in fancy restaurant but a lot in a bar. Service is very slow, we arrived at 5 and we weren't done until after 7. That was actually fine for us because our concert wasn't until 8:30 so we were happy that dinner took a long time, but this is a bar type place so you would expect faster service.
I’ve eaten at this restaurant twice in the last two weeks. It’s a beautiful place and the location is great. The servers areexcellent. The food however could be better. The salads are very uninspired for the price.
Absolutely delicious, with a perfect view
We had the best time here watching the semifinals of Wimbledon. The bartender was so friendly and we ended up eating lunch right at the bar. We would absolutely come back here the next time we are in Newport. Amazing oysters too!
Megan was our terrific server. She accommodated the 2 young nieces well. Loved sitting outside. Food was great.
The Oyster Bar proved to be an excellent choice for our early dinner in Newport. I had the yellowtail poké and it was outstanding. The fish was the freshest, the seasoning on point...refreshing and delicious. My friend's dinner of fried calamari and the charred octopus was equally appealing. Next time we will try an oyster sampler!! GO!!
When you spend $250.00 you don’t expect to be disturbed by a screaming crying toddler. Our server was very attentive and understanding and offered to move us; however, we were well in to our meal so we opted not to move. We had another family seated next to us and their 10 month old never acted out. The oysters were great as was the blackened octopus. We had been eating a lot of fish so decided to have the sirloin; disappointing. We cook better steak at home. We would not recommend nor go back!
Love love love the oysters. Add fresh fish expertly done and this was a great meal.
Halibut was over cooked. Tuna was a bit rare, but I like sashimi. Oysters were fabulous. Service was solid.
Great place for wonderful seafood! Huge inside and wkndefudl service
We weren't expecting a lot due to the location on 'tourist row', but Midtown really blew us away with their tasty drinks and great seafood with some legit nice presentation, well done!
Octopus appetizer was very good. Lobster roll was very disappointing. Server was excellent.
The food was really good but took a long time to come. It was nice and hot so it wasn't the servers fault.
We have dined here 3 times and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. Reservations are suggested.
Traffic and parking issues made us 35 minutes late for our reservation; however, the staff seated us immediately and were very accommodating. The food was good but not exactly what I’d expect for the price.
We came here for a nice dinner before watching the 4th of July fireworks and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was great. I highly recommend sitting on the patio on a nice day.
Horrible service. Lobster roll was ok. Our appetizer came after our main meal was delivered.
Waitress was fabulous...she was familiar with all food on
Menu and explained dishes very well...unfortunately the kitchen was not good..our swordfish and burger were overcooked....wine however was great....
I paid 28$ for a soggy lobster roll, with hardly any lobster and all lobster tips.
We went to Midtown Oyster Bar to try a new place. There were 4 of us from 60's to 90+ years old. The service was good, nicely paced, and our server was nice, knowledgeable and offered suggestions based on our questions. We had read some reviews about rude servers, but we did not experience this. We shared the calamari and the steamed littleneck clam appetizers, both were great. We each ordered a different entree, though one was from the appetizer menu. Mahi-Mahi, Linguini and Clams and the Halibut Fish Box, and the Tuna Poke which was an appetizer. All were really delicious. The halibut and Mahi-Mahdi were perfectly cooked, fresh and nicely portioned. The linguini and clams were a little different, the clams were chopped, not in the shell, which is traditionally the way that dish is served, but the person who ordered that dish said it was very good. They had a nice drink menu and prices were standard for the area. We will go back.
If you are looking for a nice bar that has some food you might like it here. If you are looking for a nice restaurant with good food, this is not the place.
The food eaten in that restaurant made me sick, and my wife did not appreciate her meal.
The oysters were delicious and the atmosphere was fun. Mussels had a bit of sand in them, or else I would have given this place a higher rating. Great live music; definitely a hot spot to hit in Newport!
Mussels appetizer, Scallop dinner and Steak Frites were out of this world amazing. Sit on the outside. upper level deck if possible.
From the kind wait staff out front, to our friendly and helpful server, and the delicious meal, we loved Midtown Oyster bar. Everything was excellent and we will definitely return. Props to everyone, including the runners who brought out the food. Well done by all!
We went here our first day in Newport for lunch, were so impressed we returned the next day for dinner. Blackened shrimp addd to the tomato salad was sooo good, as well as their Ahi Tuna and tuna poke. 3 different outdoor decks, yummy cocktails.
Our waitress, Nordia, was excellent! The food was delicious!
Midtown Oyster Bar was good but not great. The wine list and oyster selection are nice, but the menu lacks the focus and simplicity of a great seafood restaurant. It could really use some editing (almost every dish had an unnecessary ingredient like truffle oil or cardamom). The service was average. We were there for a special occasion and the waitstaff seemed more annoyed with the size of our group (10 people) than happy to help make the night special. The ambiance is nice and with three floors they have the space to accommodate large groups.
Lively and fun - deliciously prepared fresh fish as well as steak and vegetarian options - something for everyone!
The food was amazing. We got oysters which everyone liked. The little neck steamers had a delicious broth which gave it a great flavor. I ordered caramelized scallops which was served with risotto and puréed carrots it was tasty and perfectly sized portion. We also got the Mahi Mahi which was plated beautifully and both the people who ordered it said it was great. Our server was fabulous.
Great food and service! Entrees ordered were swordfish, scallops and Pan seafood mix- all excellent and tasty preparation! Our server, Kaylee(?sp) was also excellent.
Recommend for any occasion.
Good food and lively place. plenty of bar seating. good raw bar
Our Fathers Day meal at MOB was awesome - the food was delicious and the service was great. Can’t wait to come back!
Best lobster roll ever although pricey at $25. Scallops were awesome as well. Meals do not come with salads but portions are large and adequate. Disappointed that they only serve fried oysters at lunch but lobster roll made up for it. A dark and gloomy bar kind of place with plenty locals and tourists. Great location.
This is a true gem! Everything was terrific. We had the most wonderful waitress, the food was fantastic, and the ambience rustic. We will return!
