Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Amazing service and the Black label Burger is the best that I have ever had. Would definitely recommend this place.

Disappointing with their timing as they were 20 minutes late for our reservation which caused us to miss the jazz show we had booked afterwards.

The meats were cooked to perfection however, none of the meals were very balanced in terms of getting protein carbs and veg.

Tight space and felt like we were having dinner with the people on either side of us.

Good energy of the place though.

Wasn't what I thought it would be. The Black label burger soaked through the bun and honestly for $30 lacked anything special to justify the cost. I've paid less and had much better French food, let alone could pay $9 for an insanely better burger. Service was great, decor was old world NY which was cool but the food missed the mark.

Hot, loud and slow service

The sommelier argued with me when I asked if the had red Sancerre. He said it did not exist and Sancerre only was white.

Having served it at home last weekend that would be incorrect. Check the wine list at Le Goule in NY and you will find it.

Excellent menu. The smoked Biratnagar was delicious. The trot was perfect as were the potatoes Ana. Our server, Mahti made the meal incredibly enjoyable. Great service always enhances the experience. The busser and maitre D’ were very engaging. All in all a unforgettable time.

Nothing really stood out. We were in the first seating prior to the restaurant being filled and still waited an exorbitant amount of time between apps and dinner. The $33 burger while on many lists was meh. And the bus-ers cleared the table with such swift speed (almost as I put my fork down from the last bite they asked if plates could be cleared). Instead of feeling attentive it felt like they were ushering us out as soon as they could. I'd skip this place.

We found this place through a recommendation and were really just blown away. The service was impeccable but the food was out of this world. We had grilled oysters that were barely warmed medium oysters bathed in proscuitto butter. The bone marrow which I'm not a fan of anywhere else made me a fan - it was so tasty and delicious. Our entrees - -NY Strip and a Sea Bass were excellent and then we finished with the Grand Marnier souffle -- it was like eating a cloud. Highly recommend!

When you pay $152 for a steak you expect it to be as you ordered it.. we ordered medium and got rare..

As an apology we received a piece of cake even though we already ordered a large Souffle and Ice Cream but I guess they didn’t want to lose any money.

Also the pommes Aligot were what seemed to be the bottom of the pot, not a full portion and full of clumps.

I’ve eaten here many times and always order the same thing so I know how things should taste.

I also rarely write negative reviews but this one is well deserved.

I will say our waiter was very sweet but we were there for the food.

Strange experience there. all the staff seemed to care about was their closing at 3pm as it was a Sunday. We ordered drinks at the bar while waiting for rest of our party of 6 and they demanded a credit card to run the tab. Very limited and unusual menu on Sunday and had to ask for mustard twice. It is like they cannot even hide their sustain for he people they are serving. Have been going there for decades and can safely say that this was be last time.

The burger was great, but we felt very rushed by the wait staff to eat and get out. There was no time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. All appetizers and entrees must be ordered together and they are quick to clear the table even if not finished with the appetizers.

We had a recommendation to go to Minetta for a great Hamburger - the hamburger was wonderful, thick, beautifully done (we chose medium-raw) and tasty. though Minetta is not your usual hamburger place, but rather a classy French restaurant where the other food also looked excellent.

We chose to celebrate a family birthday because of a great prior experience at Minetta. Sadly, it disappointed. The seating for 6 was so squished that the waiter could barely squeeze between tables. We were uncomfortably crowded together. The signature black label burger was a bit cold by the time it arrived, and both were significantly underdone (rare vs our medium request) - the result of a rushed kitchen and overcrowded floor.

Despite it being a birthday, the staff did nothing to help us celebrate.

Minetta is resting on past laurels and has deteriorated significantly to nothing special but an overrated and overpriced spot.
