This is far above average for Indian food in the U.S. (or at least UK-style "Indian" food.) It is also relatively cheap for a full service sit-down SF restaurant. Friendly service, good wine selection.
Good food, portions are not huge (which was good). Service was attentive but not crowding.
We were brand new to Indian cuisine & had a great experience!
The food was amazing and the service was incredible. When I saw the place from the outside we did not think it was going to be as delicious as it was!
It was amazing, the owner was so nice and the food was served hot, fresh and most important delicious. Order off there specialty page it was worth it.
Superb Indian food in a classic, elegant San Francisco dining space. We’ve been to some of the best Indian restaurants in London (known for the best Indian food outside of India) and this restaurant has Indian cuisine that meets or beats all of them. Charming atmosphere and attentive but never intrusive service are the charming compliments to a delicious meal. Do not miss this terrific place!!
Food tasted good but very small portions, there was only 2 servers for the entire night. We ask for a soda refill and the waiter said no refills and he seem unhappy working there. The other one was nicer and even gave us extra sauce and smiled a little.
Great food and service. This place is an icon.
Thanks for your warm comments.
New Delhi is the absolute best Indian restaurant in San Francisco hands down. The mouth watering flavors, the drinks and the service were outstanding. We felt at home. This was an amazing cultural experience that brought back familiar childhood memories of eating similar flavors in Jamaica. I’m coming back soon! Thank you Mr. Ranjan Dey and your team for making our experience memorable 💕
So heartwarming to read your comments, Simone, and know that our best Indian food reminded you of the flavors of Jamaica :) It was our pleasure to have you as restaurant guests. We are open late, and if you have a chance to visit again, I would like to personally introduce you to some of my other creations including vegetarian dishes and the full bar. Best wishes.
Fantastic meal and service! We were in town for a baseball game and our anniversary and couldn’t have picked a better restaurant. The Murky Bengali Martini was exquisite - one of the most interesting drinks I have ever had. My wife ordered the non-alcoholic version so she could sample theBengali olives. All dishes we picked were specialties of the house and the restaurant makes it’s own spice mixtures. The barbecued chicken in tangy marinade was delicious and not too spicy. The owner served several dishes and told stories of the restaurant’s history. Beautiful setting and outstanding service and food. This was the best Indian restaurant we have been to in years!
Thanks for your warm comments. I enjoyed our conversations, and am so glad you liked the special Murky Bengali Martini. I do look forward to seeing you another time. Please ask for Chef Ranjan so I may personally make sure you have another memorable experience. Best wishes.
Great food and service
Delightful gastronomic experience in this legacy landmark jewel of a resturant! Customer service paralleled with San Francisco's finest!
After being quarantined for so long it was great to go out to eat. We have allayed enjoy going to this restaurant. The food was excellent as always. I picked this restaurant this time knowing they had plenty of room to separate it dinning customers. They asked a few questions on health and took our temperature. We felt welcomed and safe dinning here.
Great service. The owner treated us well and was a blast.
I was hosting a group for dinner with one vegan and one dairy allergy. The owner served us, and when we asked for recommendations on the menu, he offered to put together a full dinner for us. The dinner was great and had a variety of food. Those with dietary restrictions felt included and enjoyed the meal a lot. The spice level was pretty tame, but he brought out a bowl of hot curry sauce for people to add who wanted something hotter. The restaurant was quiet and it was easy to hear each other talk. Overall it was a great experience.
Outstanding experience overall!!
Wish I could submit 4.95 stars.
Signature cocktails were very unique; unfortunately not to our tastes.
New Delhi Restaurant presents tasty Indian specialties in a quiet, lovely environment. The service is always prompt and courteous.
Worst Indian food ever. No flavor, chewy chicken and lamb. Just gross. Tasted like naan was microwaved. Avoid at all costs.
Great service! The owner was extremely attentive and helpful. Delicious food. Numerous gluten free and vegan options.
The place smelled. Food was below par. I took a colleague to try Indian food and the experience was very disappointing.
Very friendly staff and owner
A bargin! Had the dinner for two and it was very good. Desert was not to my taste but everything else was excellent.
Great Indian dinner.
The food is incredibly flavorful. The staff are attentive and friendly and I REALLY appreciate that they take my food allergies very seriously and make sure my selections are safe for me.
Reasonable food, cheap prices but don’t expect something special
The food was creative and good. We had mixed appetizers. Then chicken in a coconut yogurt sauce. Had rice and veggies. Service was slow. Waited almost half an hour then barmaid came to take her order. I could see a superior (who could have served us instead of reprimanding her but he was chatting to folk) telling her to go back to the bar, but she saved the day. It was Christmas Eve so a bit short staffed and there were a couple of groups ahead of us. Enjoyed the food which seemed freshly prepared.
Had the vegetarian meal for 2. It was great, very filling.
Best Indian food I have ever had.
one of the great Indian restaurants and has been consistently great for this Alaskan visitor to SF since the mid-90s!
Authentic Indian cuisine at a reasonable price served in a beautiful setting.
Very good food and froendly service
The staff is very nice but they really keep you waiting.
Food is good but not exceptional.
Downtown SF great get away. Quiet and unique. The owner/chef takes time to welcome you and explain the menu. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Ordered from a he specials and the dishes were wonderful,
Great place. I ate here 20 years ago and it was as good now as then.
The owner was amazing at offering us a variety of flavors. Everything was tasty, he was charming. Definitely recommend.
Classic and dramatic setting high ceilings and yet intimate. Food excellent well spiced. I had malai kofta. very tasty. nice service. Very enjoyable.
Despite some confusion with the bill, everything was great.
What a great find! We had a wonderful dinner with outstanding service. Our waitress was knowledgeable about every dish, which was helpful to some novice Indian food eaters, plus she was delightful to deal with. We thought it was very reasonable as well. Great first night in San Francisco.
Lovely ambience and delicious food with great service
