   Not at all what we expected and we were very disappointed! Almost everything we ordered was over-the-top, way too salty! They obviously don’t spot check their food for seasoning. Most of what we ordered turned out to be overly complex (seemingly just for the sake of being fussy). It’s like when you mix together too many hues and you just get the color brown. Rather than a few layers of flavor that compliment each other (preferably in unexpected ways), our food tasted like “all but the kitchen sink” kind of thing (except for the pervasive flavor of salt, of course.) This was well short of the nuanced complexity that I would have expected from a restaurant at this price point. But honestly, at any price point, the food just didn’t taste that good.

   Olamie is a go to for southern food with an upscale twist. I promise you will never have a better biscuit. There is plenty of food though that isn’t southern comfort food. All the dishes are inspired by southern cuisine yet are light and diverse. One spot I will continue to have on my go to list

   Another great evening at Olamaie! Thank you for continuing to keep a high standard of service, food and inventive bar drinks. Very hard to find these days. Keep up the good work. Oh, of course we love the Biscuits, but the Cabbage starter, Butter Beans starter and Dayboat fish entree are always divine.

    Beautiful space, attentive service, excellent food and expert cocktails, an intelligent blend of old and new, perfect for a special occasion. Olamaie's old world Southern vibe --expressed in decor, service, and the food--has been updated and modernized; and I think the update has worked beautifully. Enough of the old charm and hospitality as well as the southern ingredients have been retained to make the experience feel special, and the new culinary techniques (such as a divine buttermilk foam) are sparingly applied so that the experience feels new but the traditional underpinnings are never lost. And let's just say that the food is scrumptious and the cocktails are mysteriously complex and delicious. The prices are very high; therefore think of Olamaie for celebrations and special occasions. Put on your best clothes, don't look at the prices and just enjoy the experience.

    WOW, what an amazing experience. Food was crazy awesome (it would take me more space than I have to go thru our food list item by item, as everything was excellent) and service was impeccable. This is an experience you should try. A bit on the expensive side, but hey, it was a college graduation celebration, so gotta splurge 👍😛

    Fantastic in every way!! The menu covered all the bases (fish, meats, vegetarian). I highly recommend family style and ordering different entrees. Service is top notch. Very personable and attentive. Cannot wait to go back!!

    We absolutely love dining at Olamaie. Staff are kind and informative without being condescending, passionate about the food and care about making sure you have the best experience (recommending amounts of dishes, pairings, etc). The food is always fantastic, and the drinks are really, really good. The only complaint I have is that it can get a bit warm/stuffy inside in the summer months (so starting in May basically), which is a bit uncomfortable.

    We went to Olamaie for a birthday celebration, and the staff made it so special! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We sat on the patio which was absolutely beautiful. The food was so delicious. I have a gluten allergy and the staff were super knowledgeable about the allergens in the menu, so I felt very comfortable eating there. We even got a few birthday surprises! I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

    The food was amazing, so Olamaie is worth another visit for that reason alone. The space felt a little cramped and LOUD. Also the tables are so close to each other that it would be impossible to have a private conversation. Service was excellent, but the noise also required our waiter to yell at us to be heard. One oddity is the 'employee wellness charge' which is 20%; it wasn't clear if this was the tip or if another is expected (because there is a separate tip line on the check). I applaud restaurants for paying their staff a living wage, but it felt excessive to pre-require 20% of the bill then ask for more for a tip. All in all, great place though and the food is some of the best I've had in Austin.

    Exceptional food, well executed, short but very interesting menu that presents classic southern and creole cooking in a modern guise. Recommend the beef belly as an appetizer, and shrimp with red rice as an entree. And of course the delicious and flawless biscuits. Spa food, this is not. Service tries too hard. Small dining room so a noisy nearby table was intrusive. Overall strongly recommend.

    Pros : - Cocktails - Biscuits - Venue Cons : Food was a disappointment - Duck breast was unlike any duck breast my wife or I have ever eaten. It resembled a well-known luncheon meat - lacking flavor and texture. It looked like a layer of fat sandwiched between two pink layers - We like the ritual of mixing the ingredients of Beef Tartare ourselves. It came already prepared and was over-flavored - Salad was too salty to eat (taken off the check). I have noticed that the complaint regarding too salty has appeared in many other reviews of Olamaie. - Beef belly - flavorful but too fatty (my bad choice) - Hushpuppies - somewhat dry but the sauce with trout roe was delicious. Service - Very good, if a little rushed. Water glasses were kept full. - Wellness Contribution of 20% : I would prefer the European / Japanese model of paying restaurant staff a living wage rather than staff having to rely on the generosity (or lack thereof) of customers. Both the server and maître d’ emphasized that this contribution was in lieu of a gratuity, although the gratuity line remains of the check. Conclusion : We shall not be returning.
