London, WC2E 7DB
Opened in October 1985, Orso is a wonderful restaurant in the heart of London’s West End. From the beginning the aim was to bring authentic Italian cuisine to Covent Garden and Orso delivers.
Orso prides itself in using only the freshest and finest ingredients many of them such as extra virgin olive oil, arugula, puntarelle, porcini mushrooms, buffalo mozzarella and white truffles when in season, sourced in Italy. But it is not just about the ingredients, our meals are prepared to perfection, served on hand painted Italian tableware designed by Designers Guild and accompanied with a selection of fine Italian wines.
Orso is the perfect destination for the London diner, offering a busy but attentive service, animated atmosphere and tempting menu.

Orso Ratings and Reviews

I recently went to Orso after not dining there for a number of years, to find that the food quality was not as good as I remembered it. The crab pasta had only a tiny amount of crab in it. Vitello tonnato was heavy on the mayonnaise, light on the tuna. The impression I was left with was that the restaurant is trying to save money by skimping on expensive ingredients. It remains a good spot for a quiet discussion, and avoids the cliche tourist trap ambience and poor quality that plague so many of the Covent Garden dining options, but we were a bit disappointed by the food.

I'm sorry to say it was appalling - I've been coming to Orso's for 32 years - since 1984 and never have I experienced such shoddy, slapdash service and mediocre food. Our bread was forgotten, Parmesan wasn't offered with the pasta dish and when asked for again my husband had to go to the kitchen to ask for it - a glass of red wine didn't appear and although the waiters apologised each time but never made any effort to improve their hopeless service. There were only three other tables to serve so in no way were any of the staff busy - what has happened to Orso's. We will not be returning - a sad end to a previously successful, reliable quality restaurant.

Food was ok. Service a little slow. After we ate I got an email a few hours later saying Orso canceled our open table due to a no show which wasn't correct.
Close to theatres which is nice pre/post show if you are looking for Italian. Priced reasonably.

Great Italian flavours, well put together, nicely presented. Great Service, nothing was too much, very friendly staff. A Bit pricey overall, but worth it to impress or for a special occasion.

Orso has gone down in quality unfortunately and I really liked this place. The Osso Bucco was really disappointing: lots of greasy parts, very little meat. The appetizers were really small and not vert tasty. Might have a bad night...

There is so much to like about Orso's: an oasis of calm in the hubbub that is Covent Garden, authentic food all about quality ingredients, great wines, friendly and efficient service, unfussy and good value. There is a reason I have been eating here for twenty years and will continue to do so.

We have eaten at Orso for many years and never fail to get lovely service, good food and there is just something about this restaurant that keeps me coming back. We've had family occasions, I've recommended it for business lunches and its a great place to have dinner with a good friend or significant other. I was very sad to hear it may have to close due to redevlopment.

great place for pre/post theater dinner. we went after the 14:30 theater with a 17:45 booking. place was packed mostly with pre-theater dinner people. the location is literally just steps from the Lyceum theater. got there early, seated no problem, their pre/post theater menus are a excellent in terms of quality, quantity, and price. great kid friendly menu as well.
we would go there again, and would recommend to any of our friends going to a show in the Covent Gardens area.

Really disgusting. Service very slow, dishes really small and expensive. Medium quality and one of us got diarrea because of the cheese.
Don't recommend at all.

After booking Orso with you in October - we were notified two weeks before we were due to go that they were closed! Not great at Christmas time, especially as we were a large group of eleven. The Wild Wood saved the day!

My Mother ate here during it's heyday (and new Orso the dog well from her stays at The Gritti in Venice). We stopped in for a swift course ahead of the ballet and, though the restaurant is new hands and didn't have the buzz of old (it was 17:45, though) it was well managed and the food was good.

We went to Orso on successive Tuesdays after the Royal Opera. On the first occasion, the service was good. On the second it took nearly half an hour for anyone to take an order even for drinks, even though the restaurant was not particularly busy. The food is consistently good.

Visited Sunday pm. Restaurant was not busy – there were seats for twice as many people. The food was excellent but the service was extremely slow. So slow that we left without desert.
The staff were doing their best but severely under resourced.

I've been visiting this restaurant for a long time now. The food is really delicious. Everything tastes amazing. It's a lovely quiet room downstairs and very comfortable. This visit was unusual in that our waiter seemed very inexperienced and was not very attentive. But that definitely wouldn't put me off going there again, I'm only saying so because I hope the restaurant will see this review and give our waiter a little more training. I would've said something on the way out but but the Maitre d' at the front desk also seemed flustered and wasn't there on our way out – food was gorgeous though!

First time at Orso and went with a group of friends. Lovely restaurant, nice environment and everything is efficient, professional and friendly. Four had the set menu which was excellent value and two chose from the main menu. Two of our party had food allergies and nothing was too much trouble.. great service and great food. Two hour seating is ideal for pre or post Theatre. Top spot, will be back.

We had a family meal with 3 children. Everyone was friendly and efficient. Very welcoming. Food was good. Children enjoyed it. For the location right next to the theatres it was very convenient and reasonably priced for London.

Hadn't been for a few years but it didn't disappoint. One of my favourites and the food was delicious and wine very reasonable.
Service could have been a bit better and a bit sharper. Nothing that a bit more training wouldn't cure.

Was disappointed to get home and on reviewing our bill we became aware of an £18 service charge that was added to our bill. If I had realised that a 'tip' was added on the bill, then I wouldn't have left a further £10 tip. We prefer to actually decide for ourselves, if the tip is worthwhile.. as opposed to having it taxed upon us.

The food was reminiscent of school dinners! Such a let down on this occasion as previous visits have been excellent. Also had run out of Tiramisu, which for an Italian restaurant is not good

Really disappointing service - and we come here a lot. It was a very quiet time and other than what seemed to be the Manager, service from all staff was slow and inattentive - wine didn't arrive with the main course, glasses not topped up, just all felt a bit 'can't be bothered'. Food was nice but not outstanding - the pears in one of the first courses were distinctly unripe and the presentation of the burrito and fennel salad was poor and the dressing fought with the other flavours. Beef braised in Barolo was pleasant but over-cooked.

This restaurant has been in existence for many years but I have only just discovered it and what a pleasure that was. I am sorry for all the years I have missed but I plan to go back very soon.
The food is typically Venetian Italian, simple but excellent and very good value. I had dinner but will next time try their lunch set menu. As I eat lunch out a lot I am hoping to add it to my regular list of restaurants. The ambiance, the glassware and tableware made me feel I was in Venice and as the restaurant is in a basement with no windows the lack of a view onto a canal didn't spoil the experience!

Really friendly and helpful staff, willing to try to find a 'quiet' table - unfortunately difficult - the restaurant was incredibly and unrestrainedly noisy - my only reason for a couple of 4-stars in the rating. Food excellent and ambience really pleasant.
Many thanks to staff and chefs.

We had the pre-theatre dinner.
Wine by the glass ok.
The cheese in the salad was all rind. The boeuf in the bourgignon was gristly, carrots practically raw. Small portion too.
Won't be back.
