Afternoon Tea at The Merrion Hotel
As most of Dublin was closed for covid-19 we had a very quiet time, the food and service were very good, but the hotel neglected to make a special effort for my daughters birthday even though I had emailed and telephoned them to organise this, so that was disappointing. other wise we had a very pleasant meal and the staff were friendly and helpful despite it being a difficult time for them.
It was an extra special experience, the art booklet that accompanied afternoon tea was interesting.

It was fabulous from start to finish! Would highly recommend! :D
We did the vegan art tea and although there was an initial hiccup (I left a note about us needing the vegan menu and for some reason it didn't go through with the reservation), they were still able to accommodate us. Bruna was our server for the day and I cannot say enough lovely things about her. She made us feel warm and welcomed and was absolutely the sweetest. The food was off the charts, wish I had this place locally. We ended our trip in Ireland here and we would do this again and again if we could. So worth the price, absolutely delightful experience for any tea or coffee fan.

Overall the experience was excellent. The service was excellent and staff were extremely friendly, they couldn't have done enough. It was my mothers 70th Birthday, hence the reason for attending the Merrion Hotel. They her feel very special, so for that my sisters and I are very thankful.
The only 1 piece of feedback I would give is I think you could really improve the ambience by introducing soft background classical music. I feel that would really make a very positive experience and improve the overall ambience.
Dear Sandra, Many thanks for the lovely review posted and for taking the time to do so. I was delighted to read how much you and your mother have enjoyed your experience our Art Afternoon Tea. Very pleasant afternoon service was great - the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Food was delicious - really enjoyed it from start to finish 👍

Fabulous service, gorgeous food. Loved that we weren’t rushed out either. A wonderful experience.
We had a fantastic afternoon
The food was amazing and the cakes were delightful
I would recommend
Very enjoyable experience for a special occasion. Lovely ambience, lovely food, harp playing nice and easy in the background.
Amazing service with the waiting staff checking in on us several times, topping up our drinks and bringing the second course to us when we were ready. Also great to get a lovely box to bring home the treats we couldn’t finish. Delicious food especially the sandwich selection and scones. Really fab experience
The setting was lovely, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, but the food was mediocre. The sandwich selection was interesting, the sponge cakes were tasty (if a little uninspired), and the dessert plate was delicious, but the scones were rock hard, the cream was tasteless, and the lemon curd was bitter.
There was an exceptional range of vegan options, which is always appreciated.
I would probably go again for the ambiance, not for the food which was not as good as what I make at home.
Absolutely superb vegan afternoon tea. Worth every penny
Afternoon Tea in the Merrion is Fabulous! From beginning to end everything was amazing. The staff and service was second to none. Can’t wait until the next time.
I would just like to say that my sister and I really enjoyed the afternoon and the girl who served us for most of the afternoon was outstanding. all the staff were lovely but one girl in particular was so friendly and helpful the whole time we were there and also a good laugh.. Unfortunately her name has slipped my mind but she was a tall girl with shoulder length curly dark hair..
Great service. Tasty high tea standard plus some extras.
My husband and I went to Art Tea to celebrate my birthday. There was a large party of 10 women seated next to us who were quiet loud, but the large party didn't delay our service. Staff was extraordinary! Arrive with an empty stomach, as there is an abundance of food. Doggie bags are prepared in lovely hat boxes to take home. A wonderful way to spend an early afternoon.
Lovely seat by the fire, attentive staff but too much bread and way to much cake. Would have liked alternative savories to the sandwiches.
Very special service. An amazing way to spend an afternoon.
Wonderful experience, staff were fantastic and the food was superb
Ambience and seating was very nice. Food wasn’t as fresh as it could be.
We were made very welcome. The service was very good. The portions were generous and the variety of sandwiches, breads and scones was lovely. We were impressed with the desserts and the creative connection to the impressive art collection in the hotel. We loved the experience and will return when we are in Ireland again.
Lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, besonderes Essen und perfekter Service
I have had afternoon tea in the Merrion before and was not greatly impressed and nothing has changed. On arrival at the lounge we were left standing waiting while the member of staff who was 'looking after' us went off to an entirely different area to get her list of bookings.
The table we were assigned was roomy and comfortable. During the tea we were served by 3 members of staff. It would have been far more efficient if only one waiter was assigned to a table. Then fewer mistakes would be made. Twice the wrong tea was brought to two members of the party. Perhaps a shorter list of teas and more attention would work better. The teas when they arrived were delicious but the teapots should be left on the table for the guests to help themselves. Even with 3 waiters the tea was not poured on time.
The sandwiches and scones were alright. The fruit cake was extremely dry and tough, very surprising at this time of year. The other cakes were great but the art cakes at the end were beautiful and delicious.
The general staff in the area were helpful and very pleasant as were the two main servers at the tea. I think the answer is keep it simple and make sure the food is excellent which is what I would expect from a hotel of that standing. Despite my comments we had a lovely afternoon together and thank you for that.
Great way to send my birthday. The food was delicious and the tea was as well. The vegetarian menu was lovely. Only good things about the whole experience.
This is the third time that I have had afternoon tea at the Merrion. Unfortunately, this time around the food was not good. The bread on the sandwiches was dry and the cakes were not quite fresh. This is just not good enough for an establishment that charged €250 for afternoon for 4 [not including tip].
Lovey atmosphere and food. A little overpriced. Overall a nice experience and h will return.
Service was slow and impersonal but everything else was perfect
Excellent food and service would highly recommend to friends and family. Beautiful surroundings
The food was excellent. The tea selection was good. However, I am giving 4 stars to the overall experience due to : 1. Our table location which was poor and 2. Although our one waitress was personable and lovely, unfortunately our other waiter was rather snobbish.
Enjoyed the whole experience. My friends and I were meeting to celebrate, having met, 50 years ago at our first day in the Central Bank, and we have been friends ever since. So the afternooon tea was just the ticket. Thank you to everyone involved, especially the young man who served us. A treasure. (Unfortunately I've forgotten his name, comes with old age!!) Thank you again.
Dear CoraH, Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent visit to Drawing Rooms I was delighted to read your generous comments about the food and the service you received. It really makes it all worthwhile when somebody enjoys a visit as much as you did. I have already shared your kind words with the entire team here and they all join me in thanking you. As expected, afternoon tea we had at the Merrion Hotel was absolutely incredible. Staff are very knowledgeable about the product, are super friendly and helpful, they really know how to make you feel welcome. Food was the highest quality, everything from savoury options to incredible art desserts, it blew us away. Considering price is €55 per person, you really get the whole package and it simply exceeds the expectations.
The Merrion is always my favourite place to go to whether lunch , spa or afternoon tea , a little haven away from the hustle and bustle. The afternoon tea was fabulous, the staff was really attentive and we loved every minute of it!
The Art Tea provided a wonderful opportunity for my two sisters and me to enjoy wonderful tea, coffee, sandwiches and lovely and luscious desserts in a beautiful building surrounded by gorgeous art. Our server, Brian went above and beyond in every way to make our experience extraordinary. The live harp music was an unexpected treat! Thank you for making our short stay in Dublin truly memorable!
Large amount of food.
Would have preferred if the tea pots had been left on the table or within accessible reach instead of waiting for staff to refill.
It was very expensive but a lovely treat. the service was excellent and the choice of teas was outstanding. I am just a bit sad that we didn't have longer to spend there. We were off to something else afterwards but easily could have stayed a bit longer. There was plenty to eat and we left feeling a bit overfull if anything. Thank you to the staff. The birthday girl was very happy.
The service was outstanding. Felt like we learned how the other half lives!!
I’ve wanted to try the Art Afternoon Tea every since I saw Paul Hollywood visit the hotel. It was an enjoyable experience and the service was exemplary. The pastry chefs interpretation of the artwork in the hotel was imaginative and perfectly presented but we found some were lacking the flavour advertised on the little descriptions.
We particularly enjoyed the Raspberry & Passionfruit Tart and the little Battenburg slices but there was little apple flavour off the Green apple macaroon and the lime sponge, orange chiboust with lemon jelly curd was colourful but tasted strange. The highlight of the whole experience was the lemon curd, served with the jam and cream to go with the absolutely perfect scones.
The sandwiches were very fresh and well filled . I would have liked it if there had been some other type of savoury like a little tart or demitasse of soup rather than all bread based.
I would recommend you try this once if you can afford it but I can’t say that it’s value for money.
Excellent service, within a pleasant environment. Staff were very attentive.
