Afternoon Tea at the Sugar Loaf Lounge
Service was very poor and slow. Would not recommend.
We are gifted afternoon tea twice a year from our son in Australia. We look forward and enjoy it very much.
Fabulous afternoon tea would highly recommend it to anybody
The food was very tasty but the sandwiches were very little. I just felt for the money, you would have had a little more. The scones with lemon curd was to die for. Overall an ok experience but I wouldn’t be rushing back or recommending.
Cost was way over the top for what was offered. Far too much sugar and sweet things (and I have a sweet tooth) We took most of it away in a box. No meat at all in the saviours. I would never have afternoon tea there again. I reckon that €25 would have paid for the content and the bill was €90. I should have used my Gift Voucher for some other purpose in the hotel.
No problem with staff, location, ambience etc but that was all that could get any positive mention. We have used the hotel before, stayed there on occasion, used the Spa in the past, had meals there - but this experience was a huge let down sorry to say.
Fabulous food, decent portions and lovely helpful staff. A very enjoyable experience
Excellent service. Beautiful food. Staff were friendly, very helpful. Would highly recommend.
Fabtastic Afternoon Tea. 5☆☆☆☆☆ Venue. Gorgeous food. Lovely staff. The only negative is that we could hear the couple next to us and noticed my partner putting his hand to his mouth so they could not hear our conversation.
Food was good. Service very friendly however due to a new system they were implementing, it was extremely slow. I had finished my main well before my husband's main came out. Desserts didn't arrive at the same time. Otherwise lovely place.
Lovely setting, very pleasant staff and great selection of sandwiches and cakes. Scones delicious.
Food was highly unsatisfactory for the price. €18 for a dry, tasteless and difficult to eat Turkey wrap. €22 for soggy battered fish. The surroundings are beautiful, you're definitely paying for the ambience , not the quality of the food. Staff were lovely .
Food was very enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the powerscout hotel and spa
Lovely atmosphere, great food. Only reason why it wasn't all 5 stars is we had to ask a second time for our coffees (we were well finished our desserts before getting them). However, in saying that they did comp the coffees due to the delay
Very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours any day of the week having lunch and then a walk around the grounds. A little expensive but very worth it. I would highly recommend it.
The welcome was cold and set the tone for the rest of the meal. Food was good and servers nice but the first impressions were not satisfactory.
Afternoon tea was amazing. Staff friendly. Really enjoyed the day
We toughly enjoyed our lunch in the Sugar Loaf Lounge. All staff were excellent and offer 5 star service.
One small issue was a draft from the corner of the window where we were sitting. We didn’t bring to the attention of staff, just pulled the curtain over a little bit!
Looking forward to returning very soo .
I bring my grandmother here every year for Afternoon Tea/Lunch and we were quite disappointed this year. We brought a larger party, 6 in total this time around. When we sat down my grandmother was asked would you like still or sparkling water. The classic trick question, but being 84 she had no clue. I have been working as a waitress in a five star hotel in Manhattan for the past three years and I am well aware of good service standards.
So we spent about €13 on two bottles of water that only gave us one glass each for 6 people? My main issue was what followed, I specifically asked for tap water when we needed more and we were brought bottled water again. I was not having us spend €26 for two small glasses of water each. The water quality in Powerscourt is fantastic so bottled never interested us. When I notified the waiter that we had in fact asked for tap water he looked at me terribly rudely and turned around. Then, obviously as they were so put out, we never received the tap water. So I had to ask again.
When the waitress was clearing our table I had a dirty knife and fork dropped on my lap from a plate lifted over my head, the cutlery missed my head narrowly. I don't mind, I know mistakes happen but there was no real apology. I was just disappointed with the lack of attentiveness and the poor attitude with the water gave the place a real feel of snobbery. Tricking people into purchasing the water is just something I would never do personally and I would also be sure to offer a drink or something in place of dropping dirty cutlery on someone. It's the small things that make customers happy.
We were brought a lovely plate with chocolates and a happy birthday message on it which was a great touch. However, ultimately I was disappointed with both the service and the attitudes this year.
We will now be taking our business elsewhere.
New afternoon menu not to usual standard. 2 of the sandwiches were awful and no changes made to cater for dietary requirement. Service usually good but on this occasion hold off till after Christmas until regular menu is back.
Lunch on Sunday was very disappointing, the food took over 45mins to arrive. The order was mixed up when it did arrive. Teas and coffees brought for the afternoon tea 45mins before we got the afternoon tea, as a result they were cold. Teacups were dirty and we were just all around disappointed with our experience.
Lovely setting, tasty food, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our lunch. Would recommend and will be back.
Great way to celebrate our last day in Ireland
Welcoming yet decadent. The Sugar loaf lounge not only offers fantastic food and friendly yet professional service but the most stunning location too. It feels private and incredibly spoiling. Highly recommend.
Hi. We were celebrating a 70th and 90th birthday party and required wheelchair access. Staff were very helpful to our elderly guests and looked after us. Food was good but not as tasty as I would have expected but I would come again.
I would recommend this hotel for stay cause it’s beautiful in and out, but I was only the guest celebrating my 37th birthday in Sugar loaf reataurant and it did disappoint me. Over the phone booking I was promised to have one candle on the cake, never had one, as well online it said in Sugar Loaf restaurant you can see Sugar Loaf mountain unfortunately the table we got had zero view for mountain, service wasn’t great as well, waitress girl lovely but receptionist girl in the restaurant not at all, I couldn’t get vase for my flowers! All attention was for hotel guests not for dinners like us. As well I have got email from hotel with dress code “smart casual” and all customers was with runners and flip flops(probably from rooms), and we felt like idiots all dressed up. Beautiful location, spectacular hotel, amazing place but needs to give more attention to everyone from staff members.
Lovely food. Staff were great and very friendly. It's quite expensive but still nice to mark an occasion
Lovely setting. Excellent menu and good choices. Vegetarian well catered for. There was prompt service initially. However we ordered a bottle of still water and the waiter spilled it while pouring it into the glasses, - not once but twice. The waiter did apologise and was embarrassed. No body was injured !, but it is not the standard of service that one would expect in a 5 star hotel. We have stayed in Adare Manor and the service there is absolutely flawless and impeccable. Waiting Staff are young and perhaps are untrained in Powerscourt??
Beautiful scenery and surroundings. Food was ok. French fries were deliciously salty but the turkey wrap was quite bland. The salads were unremarkable. Disappointing that the only desserts on offer for lunch are the tiny little cakes from the afternoon tea menu. Seems a bit lazy. Had there been better options we would have all gone for dessert but we all declined.
Service was absolutely terrible. 45 mins from ordering to get a soup. Had to ask 4 times for water refill. Dessert was ....ok.
Noticed other tables around took long time to be cleared after people left. Just disappointing for a supposed 5 star hotel
Lovely location. Good food, though a very limited choice of lunch dishes. Staff ranged from delightful to “chilly”.
Service unfortunately is usually not great, but surroundings are delightful
Waitress really lovely but lady on cash desk...very rude. I asked her to check a voucher card I had and it was as if I was really putting her out. No nice good morning or yes certainly...just rude. Food was lovely...but portion very small.
Brought my husband and mother for lunch, having previously had a very good experience. My fish was undercooked and I brought it to the attention of the waitress who was apologetic and offered me a complimentary tea which I declined. She said she would report to kitchen and manager, however, when the bill arrived no further comment was made. Unfortunately has put me off returning as an expensive lunch to not enjoy.
We waited 1hr and 20mins for our mains.
Portions were extremely small and was not worth the price.
A drink on the house was offered after the long wait , where as if we were told there was a wait we may have left and went outside the facilities.
If there is a long wait, drinks should be provided to fill the gap.
We planned to meet with a wedding planner the next day but felt the lack of service and disappointing visit overall, we cancelled early that morning.
We even left the hotel early the next day to get home.
Nice family lunch, menu is not huge but adequate choice for most. Lovely seat as requested and waitress was very helpful.
Absolutely loved it! Special treat for my elderly aunt
Ambiance fantastic! It's worth to come again... Cuisine & service was good. Unforgettable experience, and thanks for the complimentary dessert for my birthday!!! You made me smile.
First time visiting the hotel when I took my mother for her birthday lunch. We were shown to a lovely table overlooking the gardens and served by the most delightful lady (from Greystones). It was relatively quiet for a Monday. Food was delicious and service impeccable. Surprise chocolates (made in house we were told) after lunch to acknowledge my mother's birthday were sublime and greatly appreciated. We will definitely return and highly recommend.
Staff are very attentive ....beautiful surroundings and food is presented so well and tastes delicious!
A lovely place to have lunch, quiet with wonderful scenery and great service. I went for walk in the grounds while my wife sat by a roaring fire and read the papers. The staff could not have been more helpful. Looking for a copy of The Irish Independent and it was delivered to our chair from nowhere. Would highly recommend.
Booked our table online and worked fine. Tried phoning twice the night before and next morning and no answer on both occasions, just rang out. Put it down to busy due Valentine's Day.
