What Insiders Are Saying
A West Village Mexican spot with good margaritas and a great bottomless brunch deal.
I’m not one to complain. But there were some real pros and cons about brunch at Agave: my partner & I reserved quite far in advance for Sunday brunch to celebrate our anniversary. Maître D kindly moved table assignment when we asked for shade. Yay! When a server came to to us, my partner has a question if they could take the chorizo & onions out of the breakfast burrito. Our server Kenny (who by the way, never introduced himself) was not very kind in explaining that the kitchen has limited substitutions they could make. So you can’t accommodate for someone who does not eat pork, or has an allergy to onion? My partner said if they can’t accommodate he will happily order something else. He said he would come back and check in, but never did. We ordered Frozen Margaritas as our bottomless option. They were delivered, very frozen, with no straw. We asked a runner if we could have a straw. A long time passes. I am watching other tables either not touch their frozen margs, or eat them with a spoon. Kenny comes back over, then tells us, again not very kindly, that straws are illegal in NYC. Then made a hand gesture as if eating with a spoon and said, “you can figure it out” - but, we did not have spoons not were we offered any. Another note: our food came out very fast. Like, suspiciously fast. My home fries were soft and tasted reheated. Also, I heard servers telling other tables they didn’t have any “vegetables”.
Our saving grace: Justin, a different server, came over to refill our drinks and we said please can we switch to on the rocks because this is impossible! He said he’s so sorry, the manager must have forgotten to order cardboard straws. Even after we finished our meals, we were offered refills, by Justin, and not rushed out. All in all, I think our server spoiled the experience, but food wasn’t amazing either. I work at a restaurant reputable for their brunch and I was disappointed.
And - no one mentioned anniversary. Wasn’t offered dessert menu :(
Had an 11am reservation and they didn’t open until 10 past 11. The AC didn’t work. Was really looking forward to brunch for the bottomless drinks. We came from out of town. There was no champagne in my OJ and the margaritas were nothing but sour mix. Very disappointed especially where we were as a group looking to be a fun spot.
no waiter - had to flag someone down to assist us. cocktails came with plastic McDonald’s straws with short glasses. took our drinks and apps order and no one came back to ask for our dinner order so we paid and left. terrible.
There was an obvious inattention to detail and cleanliness. We had an 11:00 am reservation so we were one of the first parties to arrive as they opened at that time. We requested a certain table on the porch but we were told they were seating a larger party later. From 11:00-1:00 pm the table we initially sought was never seated. The window by the our table had a cloth in the windowsill suggesting a leak. As the accommodations are tight, my daughter kept hitting her arm on the gross, saturated white towel while eating. There was a cracked door to the outside right next to us, boxes in sight, and ? heating units with cords which were being unused in view. Such a distraction to the dining experience! The hostess had her food sitting on the counter in view (while eating) for the first hour. The ceiling fan had a paddle missing...and I could go on and on about the lack of detail and effort of appearance. The food was good and hit the mark while the attention to detail of ambiance solely lacking. I will not be back nor would I recommend.
Great food and service!!
The guacamole was amazing. My husband had the enchiladas mariscos and I had steak fajitas. Both were really wonderful, fresh and well seasoned. We loved it.
Great option for a group brunch, lots of entree options, reasonable prices, food was pretty good/average, but service fell below expectations. Server was non attentive, not friendly, and when he wasn’t MIA he seemed very bothered if we asked for anything.
The huevos rancheros were delicious! And the mimosas were pretty strong. The atmosphere is a bit strange, with the front of the restaurant being bright and airy, and the back (where I was seated) feeling like a cave. Still, well worth the $35 2-hour bottomless brunch!
An awesome place! We had so much fun! The food was delicious and presented beautifully! Our hostess was so accommodating to our large party. What a treat to not be pushed out the door...we relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed our time with our friends. Our waiter was attentive to all our needs. We will DEFINITELY visit again.
Great time for brunch, as always!
Good food good service! I always enjoy the brunch at Agave.
The waiter was super nice but was a little forgetful. And at the end of the night, my friend was charged twice for the meal.
The food was average. One dish not very good. Sitting in the enclosed patio where they did not turn the heat on. Nothing special.
The food was amazing, the service was outstanding. We had a little inconvenience at our table and the servers were more than willing to accommodate us. Everyone was extremely friendly. It’s now my top favorite restaurant!!!
We had a great time but were sitting in the front / outdoor enclosed area. The door wouldn’t shut after people would come in and out, extremely frequently on a Friday night. We’d have to keep getting up from our table to close the door. The restaurant is huge and we should have asked to move. It was pretty annoying. Otherwise great experience.
Great and accommodating for a small bday dinner (7 total)
Came to agave for brunch with some friends and it was extremely noisy - we could barely hear each other across the table with the music blasting and the other tablea being very loud. The food came out quickly but it was just average on taste at best. Margaritas from the brunch special were very sour and hardly tasted like tequila.
second time there overall great experience and fast service
This was a great choice for Sunday brunch. I'd recommend for groups of friends and dates!
Agave is always my favorite brunch spot in NYC! The staff are attentive, they don’t rush you out and the food/drinks are amazing!
Great brunch options, good drinks and great service!
I love this place!!!!
I brought friends for dinner on a holiday winter, weekend night with low turnout, but the food and the service and the ambiance were excellent. And, for the West Village, a good price point.
Amazing place and great vibe. Will definitely be returning for brunch next time we visit.
Our waitress was super nice and the food was delicious. Will definitely be returning.
Great food and fun environment
Best margarita! Service was cordial and attentive. We had the branzino -- delicious! Overall, Agave had a good feel.
The place was great.
Service was good. Drinks and food were amazing!
Had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday at Agave this past weekend! Restaurant was very accommodating and attentive to our large group. Cannot wait to go back!
I love Agave!!! I’ve been going there for years!
My husband and I were in town for brunch and it was his birthday so we went here as it was recommended by a friend. They played the best music, had great food and bottomless margaritas! It's definitely loud but a very energetic and great brunch vibe
This is exactly what me and a few of my girlfriends were looking for!
Guacamole no flavor and no option for spicy. Had to pay extra for beans not included. Traditional Mexican drink not made with Worcestershire sauce. Had to fix it ourselves. Shrimp dish not loved. Waiter pushed us to pay check before close. Was uncomfortable.
Great service during brunch. Bottomless booze was overflowing. Haven’t made to half my glass and they were refilling already. You’re also allowed to change your drink so got to try the margarita after my mimosa. Very strong drinks. Excellent! Food was good too.
This is my 3rd time at Agave. It's been many years since my previous visits. I treated a friend to brunch for her bierhdaybon a Saturday. The staff pressured us to eat and depart by a certain time which was unprofessional and off putting. The water was distracted and not interested in us for 90% of the meal. We didn't order the pre fixed bottomless brunch. My poached egg was cooked perfectly but my potatoes tasted reheated, flavorless and mushy. My friend really liked her food. Our waiter earned more points when we agreed to bring my friend a candle in her chocolate cake and sang happy birthday with me. The noise level was insanely loud! I doubt I'll go back again any time soon due to the rude staff and subpar food.
Absolutely loved it here! We went for our anniversary and they went above and beyond to make it special. The food and our waiter were both incredible!
Great spot to have an amazing bottomless brunch! Food is always knockout
The place is easy to find and walking in the bar is easily energetic and looks fun and inviting - especially for margaritas! The hostess greeted us and took us to ur table in the dining room straight back and noticed there was a whole nother room off to the side - how big is this joint??!! The menu has great diversity and many of the combinations sounded great. The homemade guac is great and is a sizeable portion to share! We had the braised short rib entree and the black angus steak fajitas - everything was great and definitley want to try few other things here.
An amazing brunch deal! Came for Saturday brunch at 11:30 with 6 friends. We all did the bottomless deal which was $35—not $32.99 as advertised on their website, fine. You can switch your drinks throughout brunch which is a major plus. I started with a frozen strawberry marg, frozen passion fruit marg, and then stuck with regular on the rocks. Really strong and truly bottomless. They even put an entire pitcher on our table (twice). Our waiter was trying to tell us that our bottomless would only last until 1.5 hours but that didn’t end up being the case. Everything was great except for some internal miscommunication it seems.
Friendly staff. Not crowded on Wednesday at 7:30 for dinner. Food was delicious (Red Snapper was killer) and they offer tequila flights which are fun.
