Tapas / Small Plates
Our aim is to put together the finest products of the New World and Old World for your dining pleasure. Perennially on the edge of great empires, the Balkans owes much of its food culture to its history, geography, and climate. The term Balkan is generally believed to come from the Byzantine word meaning: “a chain of wooded mountains.” With a desire to introduce Virginia to cutting edge Balkan cuisine, we created a dining space that will delight and indulge the senses. Primarily featuring “small plates,” Ambar also offers wines and spirits from the Balkans not often experienced by the American diner. Ambar showcases the best dishes from the Balkan Peninsula with a modern twist. These dishes are presented artfully, with modern combinations that deliver the flavor profiles in a unique way. Serbian natives Ivan Iricanin and Uros Smiljanic developed the menu with the help of Executive Chef Dejan Pilovic .

First time here’s after passing by for many years. Sorry I waited so long! Every dish was really good and with the Balkan Experience option, it’s a bargain. Pretty much all you can eat for $35. I figure I ate $80 worth of food at the a la carte prices. They were still bringing it even after we said we were done! (That’s one issue with having multiple people bringing dishes to your table). The cocktails were excellent too. Will definitely go back to try the dishes we missed.

We loved our dinner at Amber. We ordered the $35 per person sampler. The food was delicious and kept coming! There was great variety in the food, too. I recommend the drunken mussels, the lamb lasagna, and everything with roasted vegetables in it. But it’s all good, and comes with several kinds of bread. The beer and wine are great, too. I had the house Cabernet, which was from Moldova. We sat in the spacious covered seating area out back, and enjoyed the ambiance and fresh air. Highly recommend! Will return! :)

I was so disappointed with my most recent experience at Ambar-Arlington. This place used to be my go to for all things brunch, but now I have to find somewhere else to frequent. We were seated at our table at 2:00pm and waited 20 minutes before anyone came to greet us. We ended up having to go back to the hostess stand to find out where our server was. The hostess informed us that she would find our server and send them right away. Another 10 minutes passed before the manager came over and started taking our order. The guy who was supposed to be our server was going above and beyond to avoid coming to our table. At this point we were concerned if this was a race issue, because we were the only brown customers at the time. Luckily the manager was very apologetic and nice to us, because we were on the verge of walking out. The manager basically became our server for the first half of our dining experience and then another nice server, Paris, took care of us for the rest of our experience. While we did receive a discount on our meals, this experience left a bad taste in our mouths; and we didn't even get all of the time we needed to really enjoy brunch, as it was ending an hour after we placed our order. We felt rushed. Such a disappointing experience. DO BETTER AMBAR, DO BETTER!

The food was delicious as always and the servers were excellent. They were very accommodating to my friend’s dog that was able to join us outside and were even forgiving when we were a few minutes late for our reservation.

As usual, the food at Ambar was very good and the new outdoor setting (this is the first time we've been back to Ambar since the onset of the pandemic) was very nice, helped by the fact that it's set back from Wilson by maybe 100 feet.

I want to start out by saying that the service was fantastic. The waitresses were very kind and I can't say anything different. However the food - at least for myself and the 3 other individuals in my party - was not that appealing. I feel bad saying this but I just don't see how this restaurant got the ratings that it did. Quite disappointing and we probably will not be going back.

Food was excellent, love the unlimited small plate concept for brunch. I'd suggest going either early or late for brunch. We had a reservation midday and waited 40 mins for a table. Not too big deal for us, just made the food tastier when we got it. The drinks and dishes were well crafted and fresh. Would recommend.

The quality of the food was really bad compared to the previous visits. Every single dish was very salty. I usually don’t mind salt but that dinner was extremely salty. Delays in responses to requests. We had the $35 all you can eat option, and the food we consumed was no where close to $35 worth. Not a pleasant experience overall.

There was a bit of awkwardness when we were instructed to split up our group of four as we waited for a table, but we were seated reasonably promptly at a table for four outside. Our food was excellent, particularly the cevapi and the lamb shoulder, and we were grateful for the Restaurant Week deal so that we could sample so many different plates.

We really appreciated that the dinner was served at a leisurely pace, with no pressure to leave at the end of our 90-minute seating slot. We had a great evening with good friends.
