Balls Brothers - Mayfair
Post-5pm the venue is bustling with customers enjoying their happy hour which offers great value drinks deals throughout the year. Think £5.50 cocktails and bottles of prosecco for £22.50. The refurbishment in 2017 sees a new and vibrant take on Balls Brothers, creating an aspirational concept that customers will feel comfortable in from day through to the evening.
Great location, and nicely decorated space inside. However, the service was really slow. We sat for 30 mins waiting for a coffee, before we ordered our lunch. And even then the waiters never really came over. I actually asked if it was bar service as I thought it must have been. Its a shame, because the people that worked there were super friendly, they just seemed massively understaffed or under-trained. Tasty food though
I had arranged a dinner team for 9 guests to celebrate some recent results. Unfortunately our experience at Balls Brothers was not the best, we were not greeted on arrival, we waited 10 minutes then I had to go and ask for menus and someone to take our drinks order.
There was then limited menu items available "because they had been busy" most of the table wanted steak but there was only one portion left...in general it was very slow and painful service but the quality of the food was good. They just need to improve the dining experience and rave music is probably not the best choice for your clientele.
Though it looks very charming, the music was so loud it overrode everything else. Even the staff could barely hear what you’re saying.
Balls Brothers in Mayfair was exceptionally quite on a Sat evening. The decor was nice, however the food was uninspiring and there was no ambience being so quiet. Honestly, there are much better options around in the area.
The waiter who looked after us was great; he was helpful in advising on menu options, and allowed us to taste the wines before deciding which ones to go for. Its central location makes this Balls Brothers ideal for work-related networking events and also for parties. It is quiet on Saturdays so perfect for birthday parties and other celebrations.
Great place for business light lunch with a drink. I will recommend to my colleagues.
Have always enjoyed Balls Brothers . Quality guaranteed , great spot south of Bond Street .
Sandwiches always good and wine not too expensive . Relaxing basement atmosphere !
Great place hidden in Mayfair area with great service and food. Team members are very friendly and professional dealing with all clients. I will bring my client(s) for a lunch soon.
Our table was at 6pm on a Saturday and very quiet which suited us. Friendly people and a good menu and bin ends list. Food was excellent as was the service. Would go back.
Food was okay but the staff tookmages just to bring me a menu and a drink while i waited for my companion to arrive, not good enough when the place had barely ten customers at the time.
The food was great and the service was good.
Unfortunately, we were there for Friday night and it was extremely loud to converse at the dinner table.
Wonderful evening and the food was superb. The only issue was that they had run out of several things on the menu. We had to work a little to attract the attention of the waiters but they were really friendly and helpful once they were at the tables.
Chose to go here for our annual group Christmas get together. Experience was awful from the minute I phoned up to double check the booking to even trying to pay the bill. Utterly dreadful.
1. When we arrived we were shown to our table, not given any menus and had to go to the bar to get attention and order some drinks
2. We waited about 25 mins to get a menu and eventually we're given two menus to share between 8 of us
3. We then had to chase about three times for someone to come and take our order
4. When they eventually took our order we were informed that a lot of dishes were no longer available
5. On clearing the starters the waiter knocked a whole glass of red wine all over the table
6. All main courses were brought out, apart from one, which we had to keep chasing and which was for the one vegetarian around the table. She had to wait until eventually a sheepish waiter came over to inform us that whoever took our order didn't actually write hers down and there was no gnocchi left (the only vegetarian item on the menu). No one was particularly apologetic about this, neither had anyone thought to tell us earlier that there was no gnocchi. The fact she had to sit there eating a small side dish of green vegetables and someone else's chips was unbelievable - I can't believe the chef couldn't whip up some pasta or another alternative
7. The catch of the day was a rainbow trout - overcooked and inedible
8. We did receive 25% off the bill but only after we pushed the matter - no one was that bothered about making it up to us
9. To top it all off we then had to chase them to even pay the bill (the place was half empty by this point) and then they had the audacity to add a service charge to our bill and query when we didn't want to pay it
The only time anyone seemed genuinely sorry was when the waiter who took our payments did offer an apology and hoped we would come back another time (unlikely).
We had a fab evening - despite a few issues with the booking. Great food, service and good value for money. Enrico - you're a star !
Good food not good service , very slow , irritable waiter disappointing
Food, service, wine etc all good. Only negative is that the music was so loud that if we hadn't been in the private room we'd have had to leave and not eat there after all.
Conversation in the main bar impossible unless standing for after-work drinks.
The food was Ok and the service friendly but despite repeated requests they were unable to turn down the loud and inappropriate background music which made conversation difficult.
We were 20 peoples, the service was excellent with a warm welcome. We were very quick served for the quantity of people! The food was good and fresh, but i'll not recommended the organic salmon. Will come again with pleasure! Toillets and restaurant very clean!
I was looking for a British experience. The menu and the ambiance there were very close to what I expected considering that I did not want to leave Mayfair and walk too long. distance from Mayfair hotel was just fine.
Took a team of 20 to Mayfair Exchange - was provided with a good private space and was very well attended to by all staff - who all contributed to making the evening a great success.
Service was fantastic, setting great and good value for money for Mayfair.
I will definitely use the venue for future team and client get togethers.
Suggested improvements would be on the variety and quality of the menu on offer but for what we needed it provided great value for money and a great venue.
Very good location, the ambiance is lovely. Was in a party of 6 and was seated in a lovely alcove. The service was excellent, but then the restaurant/bar was not busy (it was a Monday evening). However, the food quality wasn't great - poor choice for vegetarians (1 of our party), and the steak was not cooked to medium as requested. If you are looking for an after work venue for cocktails or wine, Balls Brother is adequate, if you are looking for something more special, this isn't the place for you. But, to end on a good note, the venue is lovely and I would recommend it
Having booked the restaurant at the last moment for a business meal, I was delighted to find we had been given a private dinning room, all be it a bit tight on space, it provided an excellent opportunity for discussion.
The food was great and exactly what you would expect, the service was a little slow, despite the restaurant being very quite.
Overall a very nice restaurant, great for business dinners.
What kept it above 1 star:
Atmosphere was nice and homely
Food was nothing special but quite nice
Prices were quite good considering central London
Waitress was pleasant and friendly
What denied it a third star:
Didn't have my first choice main
Forgot my side dish
Mis-informed me about my dish (I asked if it came with a salad - it didn't)
Extremely slow to bring food despite not being busy
Had a fun evening at the Mayfair Exchange. Despite the very busy restaurant we had good service and well presented dinners.
The waitress asked us to bring any "puddings" at the end of the meal.
I did not get why she said puddings.
Once I read the menu, those are deserts.
We had a lovely meal, the Steak, half Lobster and champagne followed by a beautiful white chocolate cheesecake dessert. It's a lovely venue and the live music gave the place a great atmosphere.
I would highly recommend this place for anything from a romantic dinner date to catching up with friends.
I was actually expecting a bit more. Food was ok, not great.
Very good choice, service and food. Will book again.
We turned up to our 1:30pm confirmed booking 5 minutes early only to find the restaurant was closed and no one was picking up the phone. Their website clearly stated they were open from 11am on a Saturday, having pointed this out to them today they have since changed the opening time on the website to 5pm. We had to wander around trying to find another restaurant with a free table on a Saturday lunch-time in the middle of W1, ending up in a pizza chain restaurant after a lengthy wait to be seated, we were not happy to say the least.
I did email the restaurant on the day but they clearly can not be bothered to write back to me. Appalling.
Despite the place being half empty, staff was taking their time in every step of the process, to a point we had to go to the bar to ask the waiter to bring us the menu. On a positive side, food arrived fast.
Food was good and service was efficient
Went early on a Thursday evening as this was the closest TopTable restaurant to a meeting I had. Place was heaving and very noisy. I had booked through TopTable beforehand and got an acceptance, but then the staff rang to say they weren't sure they could fit us in, but come anyway and give it a try. When we arrived they found us a table (thankfully tucked away in a fairly quiet corner). Food was good but nothing exceptional, prices OK for Mayfair. Good staple for a quick meal or drinks, but not for special occasions.
I've had colleagues raving about the food and decided to try out the Mayfair Exchange. I entered with caution as my opinion of restaurant chains has diminished over the years. Well, I was certainly proven wrong because the food was simply outstanding. We started with the seafood platter which was very generously topped with prawns and had all the best picks of the sea - unlike other venues which would sneak in a piece or two of steamed fish to fill up some space on the plate. The winelist was comprehensive offering half price deals on wine and cocktails between 5-7pm. The waiting staff could have been more attentive but their friendliness made it very easy for us to overlook. I highly recommend this venue.
At the prices I was expecting something much better, and in particular for the chef to know the difference between a rare steak (which I ordered) a blue steak (which was first sent to the table) and a well done steak (which was the one sent back the second time). I gave up with the waitress who seemed unaware of the differences herself, and also to be somewhat rushed off her feet. Great place for drinks - avoid for food.
Overall good experience but room for improvement. Venue has a lovely ambience, food delicious and service good. Downside was they were not working from the latest list sent so had an incorrect number for our group. We were told we had the table until 6pm then asked to vacate the table at 5:45 when some of us were still having coffee. This meant nowhere for our group to stand as all areas seemed to have been become "private areas". We left as some people became quite rude. We'd had a lovely lunch and then it felt like they wanted to be rid of us to make way for the next group. I suppose this is to be expected this time of year but not such a good way to treat those customers who are loyal to this venue all year round.
Booked their extremely good value Christmas Lunch for an early season Departmental lunch. The food was very good and portion sizes just right. Drinks were kept flowing and the staff were there when needed. Fully looked after our table of 19 people during what looked like a generalyl busy lunch. Hope to return soon.
I had lunch at the Mayfair Excahnge with an old colleague last week and whilst the food didn't spoil the afternoon it took the egde off it. The goats cheese starter was fine but my main course fish pie had clearly been standing under heat for some time (or had been nuked in a microwave) as it was far too hot to eat for about ten minutes at least. When it had cooled down it was dry and tasteless as where the overcooked vegetables. The service was very good and the ambience was fine but I was very dissapointed with the food. We didn't stay for coffee!!
Visited Balls Brothers Mayfair exchange for lunch. The experience overall was ok but nothing to get excited about. Food was good and is reasonably priced and it's a pleasant enough venue. Service was patchy. The mixed bread basket we ordered as a starter came with our main meal and whilst our waitress was perfectly nice you felt she was rather going through the motions and had no clue whatsoever when asked questions when we ordered some wine. Would I go back? To be honest with so much choice around it didn't stand out and I'd want to try plenty of other restaurants/bars first. In summary it was an average experience & whilst it wasn't bad there was nothing about the lunch to make me want to rush back or wax lyrical about it to my friends.
I love this place and always come back, the food is great, the service is friendly and the staff begin to remember you the more you come back. The seafood is a great touch to somwhere which has a nice gastro pub feel
The food and service were good but the set menu was really limited and a bit boring.
