2018 Pinot Grigio, San Luis Obispo County 13.3%US$25.00
Aging - Aged in A Combination of Stainless Steel and Neutral French Oak for 8 Months. Bottling Date - 5/3/19. We have partnered with Jack's Helping Hand (www.jackshelpinghand.org), a local non-profit here in San Luis Obispo, on our Pinot Grigio. This is our 5th year partnering with them and we couldn't be more proud and honored with work with this organization. Sales from the Pinot Grigio are donated to Jack's Helping Hand. Production 306 cases
2017 Chardonnay, Edna Valley, 13.8%US$34.00
Harvest Date - September 2017. Acid - 6.5 G/L. PH - 3.46. Bottling Date - 3/22/2019. Bright and lifted on the nose with charming aromatics of hazelnut, lemon curd, white flowers, fresh pineapple and tarragon. Our clay soils at Biddle Ranch Vineyard offer a richness on the mid-palate while maintaining beautiful balance and poise with vibrant acidity and stony minerality that carry the wine into a long, elegant finish. Notes of candied kumquat, honeycomb, crisp pear and lemon meringue. Vineyard Notes - This Chardonnay comes from Biddle Ranch Vineyard in the heart of the Edna Valley. Located roughly 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, we see a cool coastal influence keeping the fruit bright with acidity. Our sunny warm summer days and long growing season allows the sunshine to kiss the fruit just enough to build up complex sugars. This vineyard contains a sandy Loam soil as well as Chert (clay) bringing texture to the wine. The specific block chosen for this wine has a slight slope providing good drainage, allowing for the quality of fruit to develop over the quantity. Winemaker Notes - Hand harvested and then pressed to tank shortly thereafter for settling 24 hours. The juice is then transferred to another stainless steel tank where fermentation begins. Upon onset of fermentation the juice temperature is dropped and the lot is transferred to barrel to finish alcoholic fermentation. In the spring, secondary fermentation progresses until stylistic decisions are made to arrest fermentation to preserve some malic acid. About 1/3 of our chardonnay production is fermented in concrete vessel for textural complexity and added layers. Production - 375 cases
2019 Rosé, Syrah / Pinot Noir, Edna Valley 13%US$30.00
Acid - 8 G/L. PH - 3.22. Bottling Date - 3/24/2020. An aromatic pleaser with beautiful notes of watermelon, white peach, and ruby red grapefruit mingling with white pepper, hints of flint, hibiscus, and violet. The wine is vibrant and energetic with a lively palate presence, delicate fruit notes, and a dry chalky texture carrying a long finish. Tasting Notes - 70% Syrah, 30% Pinot Noir. Vineyard Notes - Syrah - Donati Vineyard, Pinot Noir - Odyssey-Thurlestone Vineyard. Winemaker Notes - Donati Vineyard Syrah is picked to preserve bright acidity and fermented in stainless steel, while the Odyssey Thurlestone Pinot Noir is picked early and fermented in old neutral barrels to slightly round out the texture before being blended after primary fermentation is complete. This wine goes through a partial malolactic fermentation, preferring to retain most malic acid for verve and length
Red
2018 Pinot Noir, San Luis Obispo County 13.7%US$45.00
Harvest Date - September 2018. Acid - 5.0 G/L. PH - 3.59. Bottling Date - 7/30/2019. Sweet floral aromatic lift of early grey tea, hibiscus, and potpourri alongside more savory tones of turned earth, baking spice and palo santo. The textural and balanced palate shows the attributes of three sites that come together seamlessly to frame a deep core of plum skin and dark cherry. Silky tannin and graceful acidity bring length to the high-toned finish. Vineyard Notes - Odyssey-Thurlestone Vineyard, Spanish Springs Vineyard, & Talley-Rincon Vineyard. Winemaker Notes - Hand harvested and partially destemmed (~15% whole cluster), cold soaked for 5 days with daily pump over circulating and homogenizing the juice while natural fermentation begins. Once invigorated with fermentation the grapes are lightly foot stomped and then punched down 2 times per day at peak, 1 time per day toward the end of fermentation. Pressed at dryness and transferred to barrel. Production - 300 cases
2016 Sangiovese, Santa Barbara County, Stolpman Vineyard 15%US$45.00
Harvest Date - September 20, 2016. Acid - 6G/L. PH - 3.47. Aging - 30th Months. Bottling Date - 3/22/2019. Like a good Italian meal - low and slow - this 30 month barrel aged Sangiovese harmonizes on the nose and palate with wonderful depth and layers. Offering notes of dark cherry, sandalwood, grilled herbs, dark chocolate, evergreen and petrichor. Charcoal minerality adds another dimension to this deep, rich Sangiovese, which is wonderfully full without being at all heavy. Vineyard Notes - Stolpman Vineyard, Ballard Canyon. Winemaker Notes - Hand harvested and destemmed completely, cold soaked for 5 days with daily pump over circulating and homogenizing the juice before inoculation. At onset of fermentation the grapes are lightly foot stomped and then punched down 2 times per day at peak, 1 time per day toward the end of fermentation. Pressed at dryness and transferred to 325 gallon concrete amphora and 60 gallon barrels. After 12 months, the wine is racked, and then blended, before additional aging for another 24 months. Production - 49 cases
2016 Syrah, San Luis Obispo County 15%US$45.00
Aging - 18 Months, 15% New French Oak. Bottling Date - 4/6/18. This is an elegant, quintessential cool climate Syrah offering blueberry, violet, coffee bean, hints of iron, green olive tapenade, caper berry, and pink peppercorn. On the palate, the wine is medium body, round and supple, with vibrant acidity bringing length to the persistent structure and chalky tannins. Vineyard Notes - 64% Spanish Springs, 36% Donati. Winemaker Notes - This wine is 20% whole-cluster fermentation, 5 day cold soak with daily pump overs until onset of fermentation. Pressed lightly and transferred to barrel, aged for 20 months in 100% French oak, 20% new. Production - 180
2015 BRV Series 01 Red Blend, Central Coast 14.8%US$60.00
Aging - 28 Months, 100% Neutral French Oak. Bottling Date - 1/16/2018. Like instruments in an orchestra, this wine harmonizes with seamless balance between savory earth and dense fruit. Aromatics of black currant, plum skin, fig paste and chocolate mint complement more earthen notes of terra cotta, portabello mushroom and tobacco leaf. Texturally, think Mexican mole, dark chocolate and hints of spice working with dusty tannin bringing length to the finish. Tasting Notes - 42% Syrah, 34% Grenache, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Sangiovese. Production - 248 cases
2016 Evviva, Red Blend, Central Coast 15.5%US$60.00
Aging - Aged 20 Months in 100% French Oak, 30% New. Bottling Date - 7/11/2018. Deep garnet in color, this wine leaps from the glass with dark cherry and grilled herbs accompanied by more delicate notes of dried flowers, charcoal and cocoa powder. Offering lovely complexity and depth on the palate, this wine has richness and balanced mouth watering acidity. Beautifully structured for aging, yet offering wonderful approachability now. Production Notes - 63% Sangiovese, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah. Production - 237 cases
2016 Akubra, Red Blend, San Luis Obispo County 15.4%US$60.00
Bottling Date - 7/11/2018. The aromas suggest elegance with great depth and complexity and the palate brings power, structure, and a more brooding demeanor. This wine is beautifully layered with notes of dark cherry, violet, sassafras, cured black olive, and a mélange of berries, hints of cedar and dark chocolate shavings. The palate shows the Syrah up front, soft and approachable with chalky tannins, and the Cabernet Sauvignon brings the structure and backbone. Winemaker Notes - 50% Syrah, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Production - 196 cases
