American bistro located in the heart of Sonoma since 1996...

"Located just off Sonoma Plaza, Cafe La Haye offers an appealingly unfussy sophistication. The split-level dining room holds just a dozen or so tables, but its open kitchen, raftered ceiling and walls adorned with modern art create a vibrant energy that’s contagious."

Under new owners. Still excellent food. Not quite fine dining but not priced as fine dining either. Dinner for 2 at $300.

Good Food, Disappointing Business Practices We’ve dined at Café La Haye twice and genuinely enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately, our second visit will be our last. After spending approximately $250 on dinner, we discovered an additional 3% charge simply for paying with a credit card. I understand perfectly well that businesses incur credit card processing fees. But those fees are a routine, predictable cost of operating a business, no different from rent, utilities, insurance, payroll, linens, or any number of other expenses. A well-run restaurant accounts for these costs when establishing its menu prices. That’s how pricing works. Customers shouldn’t be presented with an additional charge at the end of an already expensive meal simply because the restaurant has chosen to separate one particular operating expense from all the others. I can understand a small neighborhood donut shop encouraging cash transactions to keep costs down. But Café La Haye isn’t a donut shop. It’s an upscale Sonoma restaurant where guests routinely spend hundreds of dollars on dinner. Accepting credit cards is a fundamental part of doing business at this level, not some extraordinary service for which customers should be charged separately. What makes this particularly frustrating is how unnecessary it feels. If the restaurant needs another 3% to operate profitably, incorporate it into the menu prices. I’d much rather pay a few dollars more for an entrée than finish an otherwise lovely evening feeling as though I’m being nickel-and-dimed for the privilege of settling my bill. It’s not about the $7.50. It’s about the principle, the perception of value, and the experience a restaurant chooses to leave with its guests. Café La Haye clearly knows how to prepare excellent food and provide attentive service. Unfortunately, this

Lunch was very good, started with glass of sparkling wine followed by their BLT sandwich and their special salad. Had espresso drinks afterwards to close a most delightful lunch. Service staff was friendly and well-informed.

I had not been to Cafe La Haye in quite a while. I was disappointed. It wasn’t that crowded but our service was neglectful. I ordered the quinoa salad with 1/2 a soft boiled egg…yes HALF. I paid $1 to get the whole egg, which is served cold. The food was tasty but I do not want to go back. It’s a shame.

We had a delightful dinner at Cafe La Haye….The salad was light and tasty, the chicken marsala was fabulous…wiped my plate of the remaining mushroom sauce,…and they surprised us with two birthday candles in the wonderful almond cake😋 Our server Erin was personable and professional…and knowledgeable in helping decide on our dishes and wine selection 👍 This is a cozy place that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed when you walk through the door 😊👍

We haven't been to Cafe La Haye in over ten years. The food was always very good, but you felt rushed to eat your food and leave. I spoke with our waiter about how long the restaurant had been open. I found out that his father, who had been the restaurant chef for over twenty years, had bought it from the original owners. The service was excellent, and our time there was very relaxing. Our entrees were well prepared and flavorful. We had the sole and chicken sandwich. It was good to hear and see how the family is continuing the legacy of Cafe La Haye. We wish them well and will be back.

We shared 3 appetizers and 4 entrees all of which were excellent. The vegetarian risotto was my favorite entree. Service was a bit rushed
