What Insiders Are Saying
Casa Enrique is home to the best Mexican food in New York City, and we bet you've never heard of it. Time to get acquainted with Long Island City.
Quality of the food was good. Meat nice and tender. Ordered quacamole hot but was actually very mild. Overall good quality food but nothing was outstanding or surprising and don’t get it where this star comes from.
Why will we not come back? So many people packed in a small space with low ceiling makes it unbearably noisy (we were also not lucky with neighbors 20cm away who were above average noisy). Almost impossible to have a conversation.
loved its so much! except the noise it was almost unbearable , service was excellent
What a wonderful place. The food was exceptional and the service was phenomenal. Loved the AlPastor tacos.
I am from Mexico and love going to Casa Enrique as it always brings me back not only to a traditional style but it makes me feel at home, whether it was my grandma or one of ants. Overall great- delicious Mexican food.
Server was short with us and made us very uncomfortable. Didn’t receive things we ordered and ignored us through the meal. Bus servers were amazing though.
Best brisket taco I've ever had! The tres letches cake was amazing as well. Definitely recommend!
Best place in LIC. Food was delicious. So good that our plates were cleaned after. Don’t let the pics fool you, it was late at night so the lighting wasn’t great. But delicious!! My only annoyance was the noice level. The group next to us was way to loud. Not the restaurants fault.
First off - don’t get scared by the inability to get a reservation at this place, just walk in and you’ll be fine. I went at 7pm on a Monday and needed to reserve my table for 2 nearly a month out. Meanwhile, there were so many open tables between 7 and 8:30 that I could have brought a party of 20 and would have been easily seated.
I was told about this place by a few status-chasing friends who claimed this place was super exclusive, had delicious food, and would make me a better person if I ate there. Not better in a philanthropic sense, but more in a bourgeoisie sense.
The place was poorly lit and the food was nothing to write home about. I understand paying top dollar for small portions if the food was special but this was all mediocre at best. $13 for guacamole which I could have made better at home. $21 for ceviche which tasted good but was laughably small and again, I could have made it better at home. $13 for 2 chorizo tacos which were nothing special and for the same amount of money I could have feasted like a king from any taco cart on Roosevelt Ave and felt proper bang for my buck. We ordered the mole dish and skirt steak as entrees. I don’t know much about mole so I can’t comment but the skirt steak, which was marinated in tequila and recommended to me by friends, did not have my eyes rolling back into my head like I thought it would. The entrees were however fairly priced. One of the reviewers here mentioned that the busboys would scrape the crumbs off of the table on to the floor rather than on to a plate or napkin. This was indeed the case and my date and I found it laughable and kind of nasty.
As far as pros, the drinks were really good and our server, Leo, was attentive, friendly, and easily earned his tip.
I didn’t leave the restaurant feeling better than anyone, in fact, I felt slightly ripped off. I’m glad I got to experience it but I wouldn’t come back or even recommend it for that matter.
I was disappointed with the brunch. We had been here before and I feel it was better. The enchiladas en salsa verde had very little chicken I had to look for it! The carne asada tacos the meat was chewy and hard. On the positive the tres leches was amazing. Maybe brunch is not the best time to go.
Fantastic!! Highly reco
Host and management team are amazing, food was fantastic as always, server was polite, just not very attentive.
Eaten is so many Mexican restaurants this month and this is the only one I would go back to, in fact I am going back.
The value for money for the quality of the food is outstanding. All is fresh and delicious and I want to keep trying more.
It took a while to get our food from a service level. This was a little disappointing but not enough to keep me away. Hope it was just a one off and the waiter did apologise.
Impoossible to have a conversation. Room is extremly noisy given echo of room.
Food was amazing. A bit pricy but worth it. Raw bar lovers must try the ceviche and fried oysters.
Foodwise I would definitely recommend Casa Enrique but I would have to mention that we would think twice before going again just because of the noise level. We just couldn't understand each other at all.
Awesome time like always !!! Luv this place
Food was fantastic, service could be a bit more attentive
Food and cocktails were excellent. Restaurant was a bit too warm though, but will definitely go back.
Delicious quality Mexican food. The cocktails and dessert were well done. The sauce for the meatball appetizer was the highlight of the meal. Very good value for a Michelin star restaurant. The only complaint was that the table next to us was so close, we were practically dining together. Very nice spot for a group of four. However, maybe not ideal for a date.
Had an amazing birthday dinner! Probably the best Mexican food we’ve had.
Amazing restaurant! The flavors are so powerful and the service makes you feel like you’re eating at your grandmothers house. They work with love!
Having dine here more than 10 times I have been accustomed to great food and service. The past two times I have had the unfortunate pleasure of having the same female waiter who is very off putting and less than happy to be working. The previous food experience was so much better that the waiters attitude was overlooked. This visit the mexican shrimp cocktail was served with the smallest of shrimps and accompanied by saltine crackers from a box. I have had this dish multiple times and to charge the same price for boxed crackers over homemade is dreadful. My husband always gets the menudo which he loves but today it was off, like most of the meal. The meatballs were amazing as easy the crab tostado. When it came time to it for the meal I had an Open Table dining reward visa/MC. When I told the waitress she eye rolled me in disgust and loudly sighed. If you have a problem accepting rewards earned through your reservation platform then stop using it. It was the second time in a month this same waitress created a less than pleasant experience and it may speak to the change in food quality and service at a once reliable establishment.
Food is delicious. Our drinks came a little late After appetizer was done. a lot closer than you think from Manhattan. Would definitely come back again.
We arrived early and had cocktails at the bar which were incredible. Were sat promptly and served the most delicious food being made to feel right at home. Will be returning frequently.
We were in new york for a week and were intrigued by a Michelin starred Mexican in Queens. We made a reservation and got our taxi out of Manhattan, having no idea what to expect. It was definitely worth the trip for the best Mexican food I've ever had. The guacamole is to die for, and has probably ruined me eating it anywhere else ever again! Every dish was superb and the staff were so polite and friendly. It was hands down the best restaurant we visited by far.
We loved everything about Casa Enrique the first time we visited a few months ago but our latest meal was very disappointing. Although the food and drinks were excellent, the rest of our experience was subpar. After making a reservation a month in advance, we were seated at a noisy communal table facing the bathroom. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks without our server even noticing they hadn't arrived. Getting her attention was almost impossible.
Amazing food! Great service. Best guacamole in the universe.
Very nice, a little pricey
Everything was delicious! We took a little bit of a risk taking our seven month old to an early dinner. Everyone was very accommodating and welcoming.
Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent service, cool but casual ambiance, and a convenient location in LIC. My only negative about Casa Enrique is how loud it can get on busy nights. Seats are close and I can often hear other tables' conversation more clearly than I can the people at my own table.
Frontera Grille comes to mind as a comparison. Excellent cuisine and service.
Taco was mediocre. Guacamole and Chicken main dish was good.
Disappointed...I was really hoping to like this restaurant since I'm a LIC local and I pass by it every day. Authentic, but overpriced. Small portions, but that's to be expected of a Michelin restaurant. The food was not better than other restaurants I have been to. Rosa Mexicano has better guacamole and serves larger portions. Menudo was fairly sparse, just tripe...no hominy or potatoes, and barely anything for garnish. Asked to be seated near the window, but seated in the hallway, although there was a table available at the front. Hallway carries all the noise, so probably one of the worst places to be seated if you want to have a conversation. It is probably one of the better Mexican restaurants in LIC, but you'll find the Burrito food truck on 48th ave and Vernon is a better deal and as tasty too.
Excellent food- lamb shank, mole enchilada, soft shell crab and oysters. Both sauces were perfectly spiced and velvety smooth. Drinks also quite good- watermelon margarita was great with spiced salt. Prices are certainly moderate for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Horrific acoustics; can’t hear waitstaff. Took 25 minutes from being seated to have drinks served and was done with drinks before small plates arrived a dozen or so minutes later. Everybody appeared to be working hard and were super friendly and competent, so it looks like perhaps a staffing issue. Also, the internet crashed and that prevented credit cards from being processed, which may have led to frustration and slowed down service.
Mole to die for. Friendly service. Too noisy in back section/low ceiling.
It’s an exceptional restaurant.
Delicious food, wonderful service. Will come back again.
Superb food, excellent quality of service. Great value for money.
Danny Meyer's got nothing on Chef Cosme..the level of service is extremely elevated and attentive here. It matches the level of the food. Holy Crap, I found my new favorite restaurant in all of NYC!
Third time back at Casa Enrique and wasn’t disappointed. Only have 4 stars on the service because it took awhile to get food and drinks, but our waiter was excellent as usual. Can’t wait to return!
