This is a very smart restaurant with excellent polite and attentive service service. However, the food was not up to the anticipated standard. We ordered Rib-Eye Steak and Sea Bass. There were two options for the steak of 250g or 400g and as were having starters we opted for the smaller, but the resulting steak is so thin that it must be difficult to cook well and results were not great. The fish was massively overcooked and as a result was dry and had no flavour. The accompanying elements, however were good. Perhaps we were unlucky on the particular day that we dined there, but as this is not a cheap restaurant we would be unlikely to risk returning.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, 1st visit and will absolutely be back again. Great wine selection, family friendly for Sunday roast which was sublime!!!
Birthday dinner, food and service was very good, great upmarket addition to the Oakwood area.
The food was beautiful, particularly the scallops I had to start and really well cooked steaks. The staff were lovely and really efficient, even though it was New Year’s Eve and it was really busy. There was definitely other things I want to try on the menu so we will be back soon.
Went with friends on New Years Eve. No enthusiasm by receiving staff on entry so hung around until someone asked us if we had a reservation - acknowledged by a resounding shout out of our surname!
Option of having drink downstairs in the lovely bar featuring the working kitchen at one side - the waiters and waitresses who served us - Tom and Charlotte - were polite and affable. Ordered a bottle of the House Shiraz which was very good. We decided to skip starters though the scallops looked delicious and got three fillets and the ribeye all cooked to perfection and flavour wise - probably one of the best steaks we have ever eaten. Some of the sides that I would have chosen were not available - such as cauliflower cheese - why? The chips were ok but tasted as though they had been frozen? Overall the food was very good but need more choice of sides. Would improve the customer experience by introducing roving blackboards to each table and have the staff briefed every shift on what is available -meat/veg sides/dessert/specials etc to share their enthusiasm with the customer. Not impressed with the 18.5% service charge automatically included.. I had explained to a Manager that unless the service/food are dire we always include a generous tip - but always ensure it goes directly to the staff working that night - so asked them to please remove any automated service charge before the bill arrives - this wasn’t actioned . May have thought we wouldn’t notice - we did and were a bit annoyed. A new bill less Service charge was quickly printed. We left a generous cash tip to reflect the quality of food and Table waiter service. Would have been a good start to have the door opened on arrival and an enthusiastic welcome with a dais and computer near the door to check bookings. Unfortunately the overall experience lacked the wow factor we’d been hoping for
Amazing Sunday lunch , beautiful modern restaurant
As a first visit, it was a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to to anyone.
Having a restaurant like the Chophaus on my doorstep is brilliant. A lovely environment to eat and gorgeous well priced food.
The steak & the cod were both excellent. We felt that the additional charges for veg/ chips/salad lowered the value of an excellent experience.
We are looking forward to the introduction of a lunchtime/bar menu hopefully in the New Year
Best steak ever and we saw our mate Reno 🤶🎅 Quite expensive and need to book.
Apart from ventilation which must be fixed will be a good venue.
A bit off from the moment we entered. No one to greet us and had to find the hostess.
When seated at our table, staff didn’t explain how selecting the meat worked and took a while to get our drinks order. The meat board was also out of view so we had to leave our table and no explanation of what was on offer. No offer of a small entre feels like a missed opportunity for the restaurant I.e. some nice bread or olives. Sides are an eye watering 4.50 each. Staff also need to be trained when to interrupt at the table. This especially considering the prices.
Rib eye steak was undercooked and surprisingly thin. On the positive side, the lamb was outstanding and the cauliflower cheese excellent. Chicken wing starter distinctly average but the scallops were good. Creme brûlée again was average and on the chewy side.
Overall has potential but dishes need refinement, staff need training and Very expensive considering the prior two points are not on point. Not in a hurry to go back. Could learn a thing or two from the staff and food at Dakota in town.
Service was fine, nice and friendly. Food was good rather than great, if a little cheaper I would have given a higher score. Chips and peppercorn sauce were excellent as was creme brûlée, ribeye steak was very good and sirloin ok. Will try again
The food was amazing. Unfortunately, the service was not at the same level.
teething problems - understandable as its very new , but some issues with service and food . i will wait a couple off weeks hen try again to see if the problems have been addressed , our waitress was incredibly helpfull a credit to chophaus
I was waiting 30 minutes before my drink arrived at the table having ordered it at the bar on entry. My starter which was mussels arrived cold! I ordered the wing rib which arrived only just an acceptable temperature. I have never written a review before but was so let down by our experience I feel I should. The service was awful but the waiter who served us was extremely pleasant and seemed to be fighting a loosing battle in a very badly organised restaurant that was very very expensive (my cold mussels were not charged). I like the venue and would love the place to succeed but I will never return again.
Service a little slow but friendly Couldn't see list of steaks on blackboard from our seats
The venue is very nice, quiet as they have only just opened. The food was good & the staff very pleasant & helpful
What a gem. Fantastic building and decor with fantastic food to match. Just what Oakwood has needed!
Delicious Sunday Roast
The Yorkshire puddings and deserts were amazing!!
Definitely making a return visit x
Great welcome, lovely atmosphere and decor and Tom our waiter was superb! All four in our party had steaks which were cooked to perfection - highly recommend the fillet. Sides and sauces were very tasty, let down only by the veg being a bit cold but this was immediately rectified. My Pudding was a little average, I had the jam roly poly which was dry and crying out for more custard! On the whole a fantastic new addition to the local area, and I can’t wait to return (hopefully by then they will stock Baileys too! )
Fantastic food and service. Will definitely be back soon
Very disappointed. Service poor, had to chase every drink, lots of items not on menu or cocktail list. Scallop and mushroom starter poor (mushroom sauce was terrible and tasted like out of a soup can!).....same mushroom sauce was clearly used for steak as well. Neither that or the mermaids sauce tasted like it was made with fresh ingredients (cream). dripping cooked chips were frozen French fries. Steak ok not the best I have ever had. All in all very poor value for money. Bill was £217 for 2 which I don’t mind paying if everything is good but given the quality I only say extremely poor value for money. Told the waiter how we felt and although he smiled and had grace and thanked us for feedback he did also explain that the chips were in fact chips and were freshly prepared.....when I chuckled he did contradict himself and say they were fresh/frozen !! However, it clearly didn’t motivate them to take any action such as reduce the bill in relation to the items we felt were not up to scratch. Won’t ever go back and shame as it is a nice location and interesting building/decor
The restaurant had only opened earlier in the week and was very well appointed. However even though we arrived early we were taken to our table 30 minutes after our booking time. Our starters did not arrive for another 90 minutes with another short delay for our main courses. By the time the main arrived we were really passed eating and my wife hardly ate anything.
To be fair the restaurant were very apologetic and gave us all our food and a bottle of wine for free. The food was good and I’ll put the experience down to ‘teething’ problems! The food was good and we will go back ..... once they get there act in order !
Food was excellent but service was extremely slow.
We were not offered more drinks after the initial round, one of our sides never arrived, even after we chased it, we asked for salt & pepper & it never appeared.
Once the service is improved I am sure this will be a fantastic restaurant, as the food was truly fantastic.
Starters were pleasant but overpriced and nothing special. Both my partner I ordered the fillet steak from the board as a main, along with four sides. My steak was ordered medium rare but had been cooked mainly on one side so was well done on one side and raw in the other. The waitress asked how our food was before we had eaten any and then didn’t return so I just ate it , and it was okay albeit not cooked properly. The sides were quite nice but less then special at £4:50 each. Ordered the jam poly with rhubarb ripple ice cream for dessert which was dry and inedible and the ice cream had no rhubarb in it. The waitress whipped it away without asking if we enjoyed it, or if there as a problem. The food was all quite tasty but not good enough to justify the price. Meal for 2 with one glass of wine each and a dessert to share came to £125, and I think that had a service charge added onto the bill without asking. In many ways far inferior to Millar and Carter, and not a patch on somewhere like Hawksmoor or Stockdales. In fairness the restaurant has just opened so things may improve. Will maybe return to try again in 6 months or so as it’s a great concept.
The food was fantastic and really delicious, however, having only half the sides available at 6.30pm on your opening night, service that needs some refinement (understandable), being sat in a dark corner to the extent that we couldn’t see our food, and then being hit with an 18.5% service charge, it’s not ok. And not worth the charge. Please don’t presume that because you are setting up shop in an ‘affluent’ area of Leeds that you should be entitled to charge for the service you provide as standard which is also very lacking. Felt ripped off particularly as we came to support your very first night.
Hello Georgina, Thank you for taking the time to give us your constructive feedback as we need your opinions to be able to make improvements to our service. I think there might have been a mistake with your bill as the service charge is set to 12.5%, so not sure what happened there. We definitely do not want anyone of our guests to feel ripped off so I am sorry you feel that way. We are working hard to rectify the opening teething issues you mentioned. Thank you Matt @ Chophaus
We went on opening night so some minor issues were to be expected. We were met and greeted at the door and offered a table downstairs for a drink before going up to our table. The staff were all friendly, attentive and professional but also had a sense of humour, can't ask for more. The setting is very nice, we'll appointed and spacious, plenty of room between tables. Our food was excellent although it did take little longer to arrive than I'd expect. I refer you to the minor issues mentioned at the start. Two of our dishes had issues but these were corrected quickly and without fuss. The side dishes are small and at £4.50 each not cheap when you can easily eat two with a main course. Overall, a very pleasant evening and I expect to be back there soon. If you like steak, fish, or just food in general then you need to try Chophaus out.
Hello Alastair, Thank you for your great comments and we are working very hard to rectify the minor issues you mentioned. We hope to see you in our restaurant again very soon! Thank you Matt @ Chophaus
