Inspired by the warmth and vibrancy of Jamaica’s culture and people, Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen is a take on traditional Jamaican cooking balanced with relevant culinary twists. Co-founded as a passion project by Gusto 54 founder Janet Zuccarini and Angela Lawrence, Gusto 54’s Chief Culture Officer, Chubby’s is a celebration of their long friendship, and their love and respect for the island’s food and all the amazing Jamaican cooks they know.

Located in a circa-1890 row house re-envisioned by Partisans Architects and interior designer Wendy Haworth, Chubby’s boasts two floors of seating, two bars, and two outdoor patios. It melds old and new, inside and out to create a transporting dining experience complete with delicious Caribbean cooking, eclectic design and soulful hospitality. Chubby's is also a Michelin Guide CA - rated restaurant.

The mango salad and oxtail stew were terrific- hands down, the best I've had in Toronto and Niagra Falls this summer. The food was afforbaly price. However, service could have been a little better but I would definitely return.

We have always loved Chubbys and are returning Customers but our last visit was very disappointing till we even asked if their was a new chef. The red pea soup was horrible, we had to return it. No flavor and very watery. The hostess told us that the chef forgot to season it when they reheated it. Not sure why they would season after it's cooked most usually season while cooking. Curry Chicken had a weird taste to it not sure what it was but we didn't finish it. The salt fish fitters had no salt fish that we could taste. No rum punch available!! The fish was great. It kind of turned us off of Chubbys for awhile and maybe try another restaurant

The ambience and food was great. Great New Orleans restaurant vibe atmosphere. However, the service was underrated. Took server s ome time to even come to our table and when he did come upstairs he took the party next to us, order first and they sat after us. Took a while getting our food to us. Half the party was served and done eating by the time the rest of our party received their food. Not sure if understaffed was the issue. One employee mentioned the kitchen was backed up. Had they mentioned that to us when we first sst down we would have been more understanding and given the opportunity to stay or leave. Outside of that it was a great vibe!

One late dinner and a brunch visit lead us to conclude that the taste and presentation of the food is great while the portions are ultra small/little versus the higher prices. The casual service is very slow and lacking in Attention to detail, order of which appetizers and mains come to the table and general attentiveness during the meal. The ambiance is superb but overall not of the 4 star caliber when you factor in the barely average service and extra small portions a the price.

I’ve been here a few times but this was my first time eating here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full but good should have been spicer and my jerk chicken was tough. The waiter was good but washrooms need to be cleaned more frequently. Overall, one of the better sit down Jamaican restaurants in Toronto.

I would definitely recommend Chubby’s restaurant. Our waitress was super kind and the food was excellent. Also the music and decor was fun.

I would def return for the vibes! Lovely spot! I was disapointed that the jerk was quite mild. The server did tell me to ask for an extra sauce next time as they keep things mild for guests who don’t like things spicy.. but I feel like if you’re booking a caribean restaurant you should expect some bite! The plantain and sauteed greens were delicious!!!
