About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Charming
On the main road from York to York Haven, and on the Conewago Creek near the point where the creek meets the Susquehanna River, the Conewago Inn has offered fine dining and friendly service for decades. Revolutionary War statesmen the Marquis de Lafayette in 1825 and author Charles Dickens in 1842 were among those who passed within yards of where you sit today. Prior to and during the American Civil War, slaves escaping from the south were hidden in what is now the basement of the Inn as well as in a barn which stood across the road.

In later years, a trolley line brought visitors by the hundreds to Elm Beach Park, a stone’s throw away from the Conewago Inn. The main log building dates to 1860. The building served as a farm house until the early 1920’s when it became an Inn named for the creek that flows nearby. Briefly named the Creekside Inn, the restaurant and tavern has since been known as the Conewago Inn. Enjoy your visit with us and let our family take care of your family!

As always, the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Don’t believe the reports in the media that the restaurant is unsafe. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I felt extremely safe walking in and out of the restaurant where there had been a freak occurrence a few days ago. Shame on anyone who cancelled their reservations because of the overblown media coverage and people trash talking when they know nothing.

The establishment was very smokey and has a large smoking bar area. The food was not very good; we got chicken that was severely overcooked, the lasagna tasted like it was sitting under a heat lamp, and the blue cheese tasted like mayonnaise. We got IPA’s that were all watered down. For what we received it was severely overpriced, and we will not return.

The food is always excellent and their prime rib is easily the best in York County. Service is impeccable yet very friendly. One of my go to places.

When we arrived, the sole waitress was struggling with the three or four tables which preceded us, one of which was quite large. As a result, service was annoyingly slow until those tables cleared. Staffing issue, not a waitress issue. Food was nicely presented and properly cooked. Crab cakes were a bit too much filling an light on the crab — have have far better. The tuna appetizer was very nice. Cobb salad was very good, and the sirloin steaks our guests had were well prepared and plated nicely. All agreed that the coleslaw was more chunky than any we’ve seen. The baked potato, our guest commented, was outstanding. The desserts were very good. I enjoyed the limoncello cake quite a lot, and the cheesecake was so good that two additional slices went home.

Ordered two filet mignon. The meat was fatty. The balsamic broccoli was partially cooked and the fries were warm and limp. The have no idea what wine brands they have on hand. We left 3/4 of our meal behind, surprising the waitress that we didn't want boxes.
