What Insiders Are Saying
Cosme is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Flatiron that’s much more approachable than it appears to be.
Small portions and ridiculously high prices especially the appetizer
Amazing food, service and experience. My husband and I were celebrating our Mexican-American wedding and we chose Cosme for this special date. Service was outstanding, ambiance had a nice feel like home, thank you for making the night so special! Food was amazing: we loved from the very authentic Salsa Macha and its blue corn tostadas, to the original Duck Carnitas with their handmade corn tortillas (couldn’t be more authentic) to finalize with the meringue dessert which has a smooth and balanced flavor.
Cosme has a limited menu. I have allergies to nuts and many of the dishes had them. They didn’t want to make me a dish without. After my husband made them ask the chef they made me something to eat. It was the size of a triangle and was $27. My husbands lamb tacos were super salty. This is First time i ever went to a restaurant that wasn’t accommodating. Cool vibe inside, wish the food matched the atmosphere
Coming to Cosme was a mistake. The food was good. That is not it. The problem is that the experience has nothing to do with Mexican food. Mexican food was born as street food or from simple taquerias and only few dishes have a different origin. Cosme is just to artificial and too commercial. Besides, although the food is good is incredibly expensive for what they offer. Honestly, I cannot speak about having a good experience when after paying 98 dollars for the duck carnitas, I get charged $4 more for extra tortillas for that dish. Thanks, but no thanks
Did not find the menu as spectacular as the pricing would indicate
Best bites of food I think I’ve ever had in my life- even after having gone to a 3 star Michelin rated French restaurant just a few months ago. The flavors were exquisite. I am interested in all of the one and two star reviews that called Cosme “disappointing” because of the size or whatever the reasoning was. This is food of the highest quality. The service was also fantastic. I am excited to return!
Wasn’t impressive - it’s just a good restaurant. Dishes were interesting, but not memorable & service was just average. Pretty disappointed for a restaurant this highly reviewed.
Excelente lugar, servio esmerado, una grata experiencia culinaria. Muy recomendable
My bestie and I were celebrating my 61st bday. Although the food is lovely and creative and wonderful and tasty, it (and the drinks) was extremely overpriced. The wait staff just average; not over and beyond. Nice touch: comp bday dessert with candle. Thanks!
Very small portions and pricey. Their dessert husk meringue was good worth trying.
Disappointed with a capital D. Best restaurant in America? Really? Guacamole was so so. Appetizers are mostly sauce. Fish was barely cooked. Almost raw. Tiny portions and sky high prices. The emperor has no clothes. Don’t fall for the hype and fake reviews. There are 1000 better meals within a half mile. And we are taking Pepsid to settle our stomachs.
We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday, I have to say this is the most expensive Mexican food we've ever had. After 3 appetizers, we were still starving, but the last one,the duck taco was pretty good and there is a lot of meet for 2 ppl to share, and the sober was good too. Nice experience, nice ppl.
Excelente selección de platillo con un toque único de alta gastronomía.
No por nada es quién es...
I went for brunch, maybe not the best way to experience this venue — elevated Mexican but rather bland, lacking balance between sauces and main ingredients... over cooked eggs... not worth the cost
Food was fair not as good as the reviews. Service mediocre.
Had quesadilla which cheese wasn't even melted...Whole branzino which was good. Best thing was dessert; churro with hot chocolate sauce.
I was very excited during a recent trip have the opportunity to get a reservation at number 23 on the world's top 50 restaurants many years experience eating throughout Mexico especially Oaxaca I found the menu to be very mediocre I found the food to be relatively unoriginal I felt that is too special chefs very little uniqueness you were possibly fantastic Sunday brunch the service was it best week lack of Education no advice no foresight regarding entree sizes and are large party of six no one attended to our bar needs after our first drink a few conversations with the gentleman I believed to be the manager brought very little change. The most important with our first impression we arrived 4 of a party of 6 we were told that we needed to wait until our party was complete I didn't feel that was appropriate at all
Overrated and overpriced
Service was lacking
Food was great. Server was knowledgeable about the dishes and attentive. Food portion is rather small though.
I love Pujol in CDMX so I wanted to try this offshoot. It did not disappoint. The food was amazing although a couple items were not as warm as they should have been, specifically the crab enchiladas. The food was all very tasty and presented nicely.
I saw mixed reviews on the guacamole so I had to try it. It wasn’t overly flavored but had a mild taste to it. Very nice and fresh. The desserts were to die for and they have some amazing combinations. I also saw mixed reviews on the service. I guess it’s like anywhere: sometimes you get a bad one. Ours was excellent. It’s a world’s top 50 restaurant and I’d say it’s deserving. Just don’t go looking for a bargain! Relax and enjoy the creations!
We had the guacamole and blue corn tostadas which was delicious as well as the artic char, tataki al pastor, and grey sole macadamia mole. Presentation as well as taste, excellent. Especially this cappuccino at the end, along with the husk meringue, scrumptious, and best cappuccino I’ve ever had. Hands down. We also shared the eucalyptus infused cheesecake. It was very creamy and light, pleasant. The downside is the cucumber sorbet that it is paired with, though that is just my own preference. Service was outstanding. Everyone at the restaurant made sure we were as accommodated as we could get. Thank you for a pleasant experience and business meal.
Tostadas were stale and the black mole was disappointing. We were at Cosme for our anniversary (06/30) and it wasn’t even mentioned when I put it in my reservation note . My partner and I both work in fine dining restaurants in philly so we understand the hustle of the BOH and mostly FOH so we still give 4 stars but for how much we spent and how quickly we left I would have thought our sever would have remembered to give us the rest of our white wine but he disappeared. The support staff were so amazing though. Made us feel at home a bit and ended up serving us out last cups of wine!
One of the best dining experiences in the city!
The food was outstanding. The taste of each dish was extraordinary. It truly takes Mexican cuisine in the US to a whole new level. It was better than many of the finest establishments I have visited in Mexico City. The pork chops flavored with ants were beyond description. They were the most tender pork chops I have eaten and the flavor of them made you just want more.
Delicious food and great service. Can get a little loud and has become quite a bit pricier. The duck carnitas are a must.
The food and service was amazing. But In order to eat a big meal you would have to spend a fortune.
The portion size was minuscule. Each person would need to eat three to four items at an average of $25 to $40 dollars each serving . This would still not be very much food.
Outstanding food! Going back soon!
One of the best meals I've had in NYC....and I'm a New Yorker.
Top 50 in the world? Best in the US? Just don’t get it!
Alta and Pujol are both 10 times better.
Service is fine. Nothing special.
Tables are on top of each other and the place is kind of loud.
. We ordered 5 dishes. 2 were bad and TINY. 1 was good. And 2 were great (the $98 duck carnitas) and corn meringue.
Really nice food, but way too expensive for what it is, and what else you can get in NYC for much less. For example, the mark-ups on the wine were excessive - with natural wines very common in similar restaurants costing 30% more than benchmark.
Not of my liking kind of ambiance. Decoration is cold and bland. Food is ok but overrated.
Way overpriced. They should have a special lunch menu as it’s not crowded at all.
For the steep price, the horrendous level of noise due to pumped up music and cramped table space made for a disappointing experience despite mostly but not always admirable cuisine.
Even though the food was ok. The overall experience was not so good, and I will not be returning.
Great food and awesome cocktails for brunch
Third time going to Cosme. Always an incredible experience, but the service appeared to be lacking this time. Not nearly as much attention to small details and clearing plates previously.
Did the brunch, barbacoa tacos are the classic and definitely very hearty and tasty. The chilaquiles were excellent too along with the corn husk meringue. Enjoyable experience, however to truly get the Cosme experience, dinner might be a better choice.
