Best margaritas in the city, just about able to justify the price.
The food is costly, mainly because the plates are tapas style, but the cuisine is so superb as to be worth the price.
Service was good as always, and staff were very friendly to my one year old daughter.

We thought the waiter was a bit aloof but at moments he was attentive...at the beginning the dishes were quite unique and we were pleasantly surprised with the combination of flavors until they brought out the pork chop that cost $58 and it was one piece cut into maybe 8 slices? There was nothing else that accompanied the dish to warrant such a high price point as a 20 oz rib eye at a high end steak house was only $60!

Service was not good that all, for those prices, I don’t feel like asking or looking for a server to get service. Food was great but we were rush and we needed to ask for things such as more drinks. The server made a mistake with one credit card and didn’t comunícate that to us until we find out by the text you get from Amex. Different amounts were charged. Not biggie but communication is important. It’s a beautiful place. We been in the one in Mexico, city. Big difference when it comes about the service. We will give it another change in the near future.

I am a great aficionado of Mexican food; I've traveled frequently to Mexico and love the cuisine, both traditional and contemporary. So I was really looking forward to dining here! I also thought it was more of a special occasion place, but not really. You enter a busy bar that is fairly casual for the neighborhood; I think that given the prices and reviews, I expected a more upscale, gracious environment. The main dining room is really dark - the decor you see on the website is hardly visible; the space is lit by pin lights focused on the tables. Cocktails ($19 ea.) took forever to come - after appetizers were served. The Think Pink was good and strong, but a martini was watery, weak, and tasteless. Appetizers were generally good - guacamole (listed at the very bottom of the menu; I don't think they want you to order it!), a tostada with abolone (small for $28) and cobia al pastor (best of the bunch). Everything is plated artfully but you see how small the servings are! Tortillas accompanying each appetizer were chewy and unappetizing, although homemade). Main courses were lamb belly and striped bass, the latter cooked like a tamale , steamed in leaves, with a puree of beans. Both were good, not amazing. Dessert was the best part of the meal - corn mousse in a crispy meringue. I'd go back for that alone!

Service was friendly in a perfunctory way. The bill before tip was $260 for 2, way too much for the quality, quantity, and level of service (and I'm accustomed to paying this and more for fine dining). When we left, no one said goodbye or thanked us for dining with them. Perhaps this was a better restaurant when they opened. It's still clearly popular but for us, Cosme was a dud.

While the food was good, the restaurant is shockingly pretentious: the menu requires translation even for Spanish speakers (who gives no explanation for Mayan terminology?), and it might just be that their preferred guests are folk with an expense account, but $96 dollars for duck carnitas, even when they are for sharing, seems a bit much.

I admit that I have a bias against overly elaborate Latin American cuisine (after all, it is made up mostly of food traditionally prepared and shared by poor people), so I was more than ready to dislike it. But there is no denying the cooking is good. It all just seems a little recherché.

I really liked Cosme. The staff was very friendly. The service was excellent. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. There is a very nice wine list. The wine mark-ups are kind of insane but this restaurant resides in NYC. The food was amazing and prepared very meticulously. You could taste all of the ingredients. The food was very fresh and pure. If I had to provide one criticism...some of the portion sizes are too small.

One of the worst meals in NYC I ever had. The food was super disappointing. Do not get the cobia collar. It’s greasy fried nasty fish parts with bones and almost nothing edible.

Delicious food-interesting combinations, very real Mexican EXCEPT that all The dishes seeed a bit toned down. Is Cosme adjusting for gringo palates? I think so. Wish they wouldn’t.

The noise level was terrible for us with slightly impaired hearing. I don’t enjoy shouting.

We wanted to enjoy this play more than we did- the staff was friendly and delightful. Sadly we were turned off by the first and second dishes we tried.

The menu was interesting to read although two dishes had cheeses not from Mexico— one from New York State ( cheddar) and another from Piedmont Italy ( Castelrosso) — why?? If we are venturing out to enjoy an authentic upscale Mexican restaurant and get schooled on new sauces and techniques- then why not some Mexican cheeses on the menu?

We tried the $38 Sweet corn tlayuda, king trumpet, cured NY cheddar, chanterelle- (for two) while this was tasty enough- it was not worth $38. We didn’t see any technique or talent employed in this dish- it was like a fancy tortilla pizza that would make great bar food. $38 was an insult.

Before we could start to eat the corn tlayuda- the second course was served at the same time - Striped bass moné, black beans, plantain saffron- we politely asked for it to be returned to the kitchen and to wait between courses.

When the second course ( which we also decided to share) was served, the plantain ans saffron puree was gummy and tasted nothing of saffron- the black bean purée was not flavorful and both were cold. The bass was left cooked very rare in the leaf and was a tiny piece which I could appreciate but for $34 for the entree we just didn’t see the vision. Maybe it was an off night for us or for the kitchen, and we missed the point and forgot to order the mole dishes. We eat out all the time in some great restaurants through the USA and Europe, I cannot believe this place made Top 50 in the world. Maybe we could be convinced but certainly not on this try. We asked for the bill early after the sea bass was returned for the second time - so two drinks and a fancy bar pie cost us $97.

food was very disappointing. The infladita was mush and flavorless. The cobia al pastor great idea, great presentation but the whole dish was cold especially the hand made corn tortillas to make tacos. Service lacked attention. Food overpriced for the quality and quantity.

We had a fabulous meal here a number of years ago: duck carnitas and blue corn husk soufflé for dessert. The duck was a major disappointment this time. While the duck meat was well flavored, it did not shred properly. The duck skin was not browned and it was super fatty. The presentation in radish discs and cilantro was not appetizing. When asked, the waiter suggested that perhaps this was due to the fact that they had switched from the Long Island mallard to another kind of duck. We dream of that mallard, but based on this recent unmemorable experience, I doubt we will ever go back.

I left a lengthier review on Yelp. Nothing I was served was worthy of any memorable or pleasant experience. My rubbery lobster that their knives would not cut through was basically served on top of refried black bean paste, couldn't find chorizo, and my other dish, Mole "soup" was terrible. The server could not explain to me what any of the dishes would be like and it ruined the whole experience. I am still puzzled to why this restaurant is so hyped up.
