Fun, energetic atmosphere. Very much a pet friendly place with the outdoor seating. At first, we weren't exactly sure who was our server since a few different people waited on us. Great guoc, fish tacos and mushroom quesadillas. The upgrade Margarita was ok, not sure if it was truly all fresh lime since a little on the sweet side. Overall, excellent, friendly service and loved the food.
Delicious Mexican food with a twist. Had the chicken tings chilaquiles and they were out of this world. A great selection of interesting cocktails. Also checkout out the breakfast and drink deal!
Had some friends visiting and walked down to the wharf for a late lunch. I wanted them to experience a great lunch in the center of Newport’s waterfront. As usual, Diego’s came through!
We specifically chose Diego’s because they had a gluten free menu, which had gotten good reviews. The food was horrible and the service was not great either. I had to wait over 20 minutes for my drink, which turned out to be the one thing that tasted good. Something was added to the guacamole to thin it out, it had a weird consistency and was pretty flavorless. I got the chicken enchiladas for dinner. Once again, incredibly flavorless and the refried beans were watery. To top it off, I ended up getting very sick that night and the whole next day. I think it is a fine place to go for drinks, but I would not recommend eating there.
The location is great and the ambiance is good but the food was awful. I got the steak frites and there was nothing enjoyable about this meal. Steak was dry and tasteless and surprisingly they did not have any sauces to spice it up. They did credit the steak and the pitchers of drinks were good so it was a silver lining on this experience. Do not think I would be going back anytime soon! Overrated for what it is
Service terrible, slow
We loved Diegos because they were super dog friendly. We had our two dogs with us and the waitstaff went out of their way to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. The food was ok. It could use a little more spice. But we will definitely come back to this place next time we’re in Newport because of how dog friendly they are.
Always great food and amazing ambiance. Service is always top notch too!
Simply excellent! The food was delicious, terrific cocktails and great location! The menu is varied and you will certainly find something special to eat. Highly recommended!
Food is great. Drinks too. Can’t stand you be nickeled and dimed to death. The nachos basically come “dry”. Paid extra for a 2oz portion of sour cream and 4 ox portion of salsa. $1 each. Come ON! For the food cost the dissatisfaction price is huge. I’m a local. Will unfortunately look elsewhere next time.
Had some amazing cocktails and delicious Mexican brunch! They have a $5 menu when you buy a drink, and they're all DELICIOUS. Try the eggs Benedict or the torta. So good.
Out 43rd anniversary...as usual it was fabulous food but excellent service from Zach
Great food and harbor view from the upstairs, but the music was very noisy.
The food was excellent. The service was subpar- our server wasn't friendly, seemed too busy to care. I left disappointed.
Margaritas were so good but the service was super slow. In all fairness, it was a Saturday night and it was busy. I would definitely go back again.
Great drinks and food. Except the nachos are terrible! Place is so loud and the service was horrible. We always love going there for drinks and thought we would try the food but never again. Go else where for dinner and go to Diego’s for drinks afterwards
Great food, fantastic service, and outstanding food!
We had an absolutely delicious meal! We shared two apps (guacamole with seafood and sauteed calamari) and an entree (local catch tacos). Everything tasted great, really flavorful and fresh, and service was good. The decor was punk rock inspired Mexican and fun to look at! We wish this place was in our neighborhood. We’d go all the time!
Really interesting menu. Great food & service!
Great mushroom tacos
Fun friendly service
Got apps before our drinks. Took 20 min for a server, server was very apologetic though
Was just not intrigued by this so called "californian infused mexican food" It was OK. Also seemed as though tables ordering alcohol were attended to more
We visited Diego's on a Sunday night during a recent weekend escape to Newport - what a treat this place is! I started with one of their signature cocktails - The Silver Fox - and YUMMMM!!! The Nachos are the best I've ever tried - we got the original nachos with grilled chicken and I could have happily eaten the entire plate as my main entree. For my main I ordered the quesadilla, and could only eat half...which was fine as the other half went home for the next night and was just as good then!
As a serious foodie, I would highly recommend you make Diego's part of your weekend experience....but make your reservations in advance because they are busy!
Our drinks sat on the bar ready for over 10 minutes. Nachos were cold and cheese was coagulated.
Food and drinks were amazing!! Can’t wait to go back!!
Diegos is a fun place to enjoy great drinks and food. We come to Newport once a year and always make Diego’s a tradition. Wonderful staff and great food! Can’t wait to come back next February to enjoy great Mexican food:)
Everything was great. The chicken nachos were awesome and our server couldn’t have been better.
Great gluten free menu! Staff very contentious of ingredients and options.
Restaurant was uncomfortably cold. Had to wear our coats while eating. Service was slow. Never got additional drinks we ordered before our meal was finished. Food was ok, not great. Would not go back.
I was very disappointed in my visit this past weekend to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The food was cold, the server dropped my daughter and her husband's meal on the stairs so they had to wait for another to be prepared and they didn't offer to comp anything with a party of 8! Very disappointed in the quality of the tacos as well. They were not at all as tasty as the food truck, although I was told they were the same, and they arrived cold. Most of the meals arrived cold.
Prefer Diegos in nice weather when we csn sit outside. We like the vibe when that area is open. We were seated upstairs in the end booth near the service station. At least 5 times during our meal one of the waitresses came to scrape leftover food into an open basket placed within 3-4 feet of where we were sitting-not an appealing setup for the diner stuck next to that arrangement.
A last minute decision turned into a great afternoon meal!!
Diego’s is a nice find for casual Mexican cuisine in Newport. Service is both helpful and friendly. Many interesting twists on the menu, so this far from your chain Tex-mex restaurant . Would recommend Diego’s if you are looking for a casual dining experience in The South coast.
Fresh food, innovative menu and terrific service from Emily C. Everything about our visit was perfect We had been here last May and had terrible service and bad food. We are so glad we gave it another chance and will be coming back soon.
Delicious as always!
Deeeece food. Cool atmosphere. Went there the day before my birthday (10/9 if you want to wish me a HBD).
What a great place to be !!! Great food and superior service!!! Getcha some !!!
5/10. Got the fish tacos and four diff salsas with guac. The salsas weren't great and guac was bland. Fish tacos had too much goin on and the flavors were all off. Only great thing about this place is their bride of carlos drink. Super spicy but damn good. Tried a few other drinks and left them on the table. The mooring is one the top food spots from our trip.
music much too loud.
couldn't even hear waitress explain specials!!
Certainly wasn't a place to have conversation.
Service very slow & it was early before crowd.
This was our sixth annual visit to Diego's, and this year things weren't quite up to expectations. Overall we weren't really dissatisfied, but I'd say we were a bit disappointed or let down. Our reservation was honored without a hitch and we had a great table. Our waitress was nice enough, but as humans sometimes do, she didn't get our order quite right. When the expeditor brought our meal we pointed out the error. He took it right back to the kitchen, and our waitress came immediately to the table to apologize and offer us a dessert (which we declined). That was handled well and a nice touch. The letdown came when our order wasn't completely right the second time. We accepted it as it was, and it was "good" but the food just didn't seem up to the standard we had become accustomed to at Diego's. We weren't going to let this ruin our first night in Newport this year though, so we made the best of it and enjoyed the ambiance and the "good" but not very good or great food. We'll likely give Diego's another chance next year. I really hope they get it right or they'll lose us as return customers.
