Our server was fantastic. She was so nice and very efficient. The food was really good and with the large windows there is not a bad seat in the place.

LUNCH FOR FIVE? YES, PLEASE! We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at The Downrigger yesterday, perched shoreside above the Port of Friday Harbor. With drizzly weather outside, the inviting indoor dining and diverse menu made Downrigger the ideal spot after a chilly island tour. We were fortunate to snag the best table in the house, which offered sweeping views of the ferry and the misty fog over Brown Island. The signature PNW decor, combined with this scenery, provided the perfect refuge from a tardy ferry, a canceled seaplane, and a rainy afternoon. The menu truly had something for everyone. We savored the crispy cod and chips, the outstanding jam bacon/arugula Downrigger burger, golden onion rings, classic French fries, a zesty Jamaican chicken sandwich, and a mouthwatering snapper sandwich. To top it all off, the well-stocked bar served up a spicy margarita—just the right kick to brighten a gray day. Leslie, our server, was professional, warm, and attentive, while the cozy atmosphere made us feel like locals. I highly recommend The Downrigger for a memorable meal in Friday Harbor, rain or shine!

While I understand its not the obligation of the restaurant to cater to every dietary choice, but with more and more people choosing to go plant-based for environmental and ethical reasons, just one strong dish on a menu that doesn't have dairy or meat isn't a big ask. I made the reservation here knowing their was one dish I could eat, and my meat-eating friends would have plenty of options to choose from. I ordered the buddha bowl without the protein add-on options, which was a humble medley of vegetables, quinoa, beans, and brown rice. It didn't sound culinarily exciting, but have always enjoyed buddha bowls at other restaurants, so I thought I would give it a try. This dish had ZERO depth of flavor or seasoning and the vegetables were a bit mushy. I've never wanted to take a dish back before, but seriously considered it here. If you are going to offer only one non-meat/dairy option on a menu, it shouldn't be such an afterthought especially for $24. Many patrons choose to make spectacular dishes at home for this reason. Choosing to eat out should be a treat, not a let down. Aside from my experience with the food, the atmosphere and view were beautiful and our server was kind and attentive.

We had a very enjoyable meal at Downrigger Restaurant. The cocktails were a highlight, creative, well made, and fun. The purple gin drink was especially memorable, and the chia old fashioned was a unique twist on a classic. The food and service were both very good, and the restaurant had a pleasant, comfortable energy with moderate sound levels that made it easy to enjoy conversation. A great choice for a relaxed meal and inventive cocktails.
