Elephant & Castle - Rathmines
The menu will feature the same great dishes that make Elephant & Castle a firm favourite. From the fluffy omelettes, caesar salads and juicy burgers, and, of course, those crispy, spicy wings. We’re focusing on friendly, laid-back service; tasty as ever food and a relaxed atmosphere - everything Elephant & Castle lovers have come to expect from a visit to our place. The 110-seater restaurant is spacious and bright, with large windows looking out onto buzzing Rathmines. Comfy booths and oak clad walls with black and white images from Elephant & Castle’s native New York City decking the walls.
Wings portion very large would recommend smaller portion as appetizer
Great atmosphere, even better food and if you are lucky enough to have Jade as your server then thats the cherry on top. We will be back!
The overall experience was good & we would return. Chicken wings were fabulous & the ribs so starters very good. Asked for steak medium rare for two people & they came out medium. Looks like they had been left sitting for around 10 mins before coming to our table. The omelette was a bit bland as well. Deserts were good & they made a special effort to sing happy birthday. Overall good but some tweeks to the main course & it would have been a 5 star experience but as they are only just open we will go back again in a few weeks to see how things are working out.
I really enjoyed their spicy chicken wings. However I found it strange that they serve beer and wine but no spirits as several members of my party were looking for a gin and tonic with their dinner.
Excellent. Really enjoyed. Good kids menu. Good value. No rush to give back table. Will be back soon.
It took a long time to get water when we sat first & long waits between courses and it was not that busy so couldn’t understand delays. Also they ran out of a lot of the desserts!
Had booked in plenty well in advance for a table for 5 people. Got a call from the restaurant to confirm we were coming. Arrived on time to be told they were finishing preparing our table setting. Next thing, we were shown to two table near the door, which had been set. Not very comfortable as gushes of freezing air blew around us every time the door was opened. The outer door does not close swiftly. The rest of the seating area was noticeably more comfortable and warmer. The staff did offer to turn up the heat and did apologies, but felt sorry that we had already agreed to sit down. We were cold and had to wear our jackets having initially taken them off. The people near us wore their coats. The food was nice, but I have to say, the temperature/cold breeze was a big downer.
I ordered a burger, which the waitress said was offered medium or well done. I wonder what magic soltion you have to ensuring that medium cooked burgers are safe? Would love to know how you ensure VTEC is eliminated. If you have no credible method, then stop this dangerous practice.
Our first visit was disappointing. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive, one of our meals (tuna sandwich) arrived about 10 minutes after everyone else’s and the chicken noodle dish was watery and bland. One of the servers (unfortunately didn’t get her name) was really good and seemed to be on top of things but she seemed to be the exception, she wasn’t even our server but seemed to notice us waiting. The cocktails were nice. Overall it was not what we expected and we wouldn’t rush back
Serious delays in bringing courses to the table, mistake with the order for one of our party which took a long time to rectify. Food was okay. Second time to visit and similar experience this time.
Staff were pleasant enough but serious overhaul on the operations side needed. Had the potential to be a really popular restaurant but some serious remedial work required. Hope you can turn this around.
We were seated for at least 10/15 minutes before anyone asked us if we wanted a drink, we had to grab their attention, starters were good (probably the only reason I would go back) hamburger was dry & ceasar salad dressing & chicken nice but lettuce leaves need to be made a little smaller. Restaurant could be amazing but need to get the food right or repeat business may start to fall off. Service was just OK, had to ask for finger bowl which should be standard with chicken wings & spare ribs!! Will probably give it another go but not for awhile
Thé staff was amasing. The chicken wings delicious and will defo come back for them. Had a Mexican salad which was nice
Reserved a table at elephant and castle, however we were squeezed into a corner beside a big group. I could barely fit into the table as they were so close together. This was my anniversary meal so i thought by booking a table we would get a good one. The restaurant was very loud, 3 birthdays going on while we were there.
Food is very expensive for what you actually receive. The ribs were lovely for starters, however both my partner and I ordered steak for the main, mine was supposed to come with vegetables in garlic, however a bit of asparagus was beside the small fillet of steak, accompanied by 2 table spoons of peppered sauce.
My partner ordered a sirloin steak and spaghetti was brought out to him, when we informed the waiter that we did not order that she said “yes you did”.
While they were fixing this mistake they left my steak with me and I had to either eat alone or leave it to go cold while we were waiting for my partners meal. As this was an anniversary meal this was disappointing.
There was 4 chips on his plate accompanied by 1 mushroom and 1/2 a tomato slice. On the menu it said a stuffed pepper was included but it wasn’t on the plate?
They didn’t charge us for one of the steaks which I felt was acceptable for the meal being disasapointing.
I would recommend this restaurant, they may have just been very busy this night. But for now I think it will be a while before I give it another chance.
Service was extremely slow went there at 5.30 and didn't leave till after 7 just for chicken wings and ribs.. had to ask 3 times for a coke refill. Was expecting so much more:(
Food and the service were both excellent. Staff were so nice too
Overall very good however my burger was overcooked- I had requested medium - and food presentation was poor
Booked for 20.15. Arrived at 20.20. 3people in front of us waiting to be seated. Plenty of spare tables. After standing waiting for 10 minutes I had to ask was there a problem as I had pre booked. Was then seated within another couple of minutes. We ordered and were only having Chicken Wings and Rack of Ribs with bottle of wine. It was 21.10 when we eventually got our food.
Not exactly what I would describe as a good experience for €59 excluding tip
Service was poor. Had to ask about 5 times for water. Coffee was cold - even after complaining about the first one and being assured the 2nd would be hot and the 1st would be knocked off the bill - neither of which happened. Food was fine but nothing special and very expensive.
Our experience of the Elephant&Castle was poor to say the least. We were waiting 25 minutes before anyone came to our table. Four starters were ordered, only got two. Mains arrived instead of the other two starters, told them to take them back we wanted the other two starters. One of the starters was soup, had to ask for a spoon. We then ordered dessert and coffees. Got the coffees, which were warm not hot before the desserts. I know it was busy but the young staff need more training. Food is very tasty but the experience we had was poor, hope it is better if we go back again. Service charge is way too expensive, I paid 31 euro on top of the bill.
Food was ok. service was slow for ordering drinks. Full glass of wine spilt all over me and my food from a waiter. No apology from staff or manager. Manager came over and moved the waiter away and never came back. No attempt made to replace my wine drenched steak. Steak was nice up to that point. Complained at the end and the steak was taken off the bill. Wasn't a great expierience. Wont be going back
Gorgeous juicy chicken wings and chips for family of six in nice venue. Ambience could be improved if music volume reduced. Will be back!
pasta was cold, was requested to heat however wasn't good enough.
Lovely 16th birthday celebration with family. Service very friendly and pretty efficient. Would def return
Not much to write about on this one. They have a silly wait list system that results in lots of people standing around your table while you are trying to eat and the door constantly opening and closing into a very draughty restaurant. Wait times could be a lot shorter if they were more efficient about getting food out of the kitchen. Place wasnt very clean. Food is ok, nothing special - it is poor quality ingredients and expensive in comparison to other places doing the same thing better. Service was very slow. Wouldnt go back.
Out of the cocktails and beers that we wanted. All food arrived at the same time even thought many of us ordered starters and mains. Had to wait twenty minutes for the bill. Won’t be going back to E & C Rathmines for the foreseeable future.
It was a family outing - one child very keen on chicken wings
Overall it was mediocre - menu was limited and nothing the six of us had was remarkable. It’s a busy place but god knows why. Use more imagination and get much better food elsewhere anywhere in Dublin... you are spoilt for choice. It’s a small step up from McDonald’s. More likely to go back to McDonald’s.
Annoying when they add 12.5% service charge for a family of 6 but guess it’s the price you pay for booking a table. No reservations for less than 6 ... and don’t take tables near the door given the constant stream of people asking on spec
Very friendly and efficient staff. Great food. Great for kids.
Terrible experience got a glass of pinot grigio with suds when i asked to speak to person responsible he could not give me a reason and was very unhelpful i asked for Manager who replaced it with a proper glass the meals came but we all had to wait at least 5 more minutes for the fries and then a 25 euro SERVICE CHARGE i will be taking this further
Very plain food with over expensive prices. Would not go back. Terrible value for money.
Very enjoyable. Their trademark chicken wings were up to their usual high standard.
Our only negative would be that the service was a little slow at times and they ran out of some desserts at 6.30 pm!
Also, they are very hard to get on the phone to make a booking!
Dinner was fine. 8/9 of us had the spicy wings which were OK. I've had nicer wings elsewhere. One of the group received cold wings which were replaced straight away. Service was friendly and overall value was good. It's a nice spot and would certainly consider going back to sample something else other than wings.
Lovely decor and great service but very disappointed with the food. We went mainly to try the wings but they were dry and crispy. Kids pasta was cold. Won't be rushing back.
Food just not great. Greasy. Poor quality chicken in club sandwich. Children’s meals ok. Neither was service. Our waiter forgot about food that was owed to our table. Food only arrived after I got up to ask and everyone else had finished eating. Disappointing first visit.
Poor service , food cold.
Music was increased to the point we had to strain to hear people on other side of table. We sat inside door to the left and the draft that came through the bench was fierce, we had to stuff coats behind us to try block it.
Went for the famous E&C 'wings' but they were dried up. They need to improve the overall presentation of other food, for example extra portions of chips were brought out on a simple side plate, Kids Menu burger referred to 'Sliders' but a plain burger came out, The Club Sandwich presentation was poor and all the fillers were stone cold and tasted bland. These would all be fine if your were in a dingy diner but at the prices they are charging not great. On the other hand the Temple Bar Omelet got good review.
