Ely Wine Bar
Opened in 1999 Ely has been recognised as Ireland’s leading wine bar from the start, continuously awarded best wine bar with Wine Spectator recognising it for Best of Award of Excellence in 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 saying "This restaurant is honored by Wine Spectator for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world.” And The Sunday Business Post awarding it Best Wine Bar in Ireland 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 saying "Ely is the class-leading, category-defining exemplar. A superb food offering to match every wine on the extensive and adventurous wine list..."
Not content with sourcing some of the world’s best wines Ely also takes food provenance and seasonality very seriously, sourcing their grass-fed organic beef and pork from their own family farm in the Burren along the Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland’s west coast.
Excellent attention to detail
It was a nice night but underwhelming. Our server seemed bored and uninterested, we were told the specials before getting a menu. Food was grand but nothing special. Early bird and evening menu advertised online but not available on the night
We regularly go to Ely for lunch so were really looking forward to our evening visit. The menu was very limited and confusing and the food a little disappointing given how good the lunchtime menu and food are. The “ Cod Special” was more of a starter rather than a main, the price a little steep for what it was and my two fellow diners commented that it tasted very bland. Not all wine on the wine list was available. The staff as usual were very friendly and the décor apart from the lighting is very good. The table was quite cramped and very near the door drawing a draft when the door opened to admit other diners given that we were the only diners on the ground floor. Overall our visit was quite disappointing which is such as a pity as we are regular lunchtime diners. Told a colleague about our experience and they are thinking of cancelling their visit in March
Pitch perfect! Very subtle and simple décor, huge wine list, very affordable and great selection of organic wines! Food is delicious, simple but superbly executed, exactly what you need with a good bottle! Service is attentive and friendly, will return as soon as we are back in Dublin!
As always, Ely Wine Bar made for a very pleasant evening. The service was excellent, with staff knowing what wine and courses to recommend. The food was delicious, and the place had a great buzz. I recommend Ely Wine Bar to everyone for all occasions. It is also the perfect place to entertain clients as you are guaranteed good service, and no-one being disappointed with the evening.
Great food and service!
Food was good, but this is not fine dining . Nice mixed nibbles/starters...rack of lamb was a little chewy,
But overall very pleasant. Highlight for us were the excellent Brazilian bar/waiting staff, plus Jack who had great humour and good knowledge of his wines.
A good experience overall...
Lovely restaurant, just reopened after refurbishment. Excellent bar and waiting staff. We enjoyed cocktails and no better place to get a great bottle of wine. Have been going there for many years and never been disappointed. Excellent for couples and small groups.
Great night - restaurant lovely and warm, dim lighting. We had an early booking. Waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Only blip in service was that we had to wait a while for our second drinks. Food very good - beef fillet & steak tartare excellent. Just thought the scallop dish was missing something. Otherwise we would have scored a 5! We love Ely as it is consistently good with fantastic ingredients.
The place has recently been redecorated and is very pleasant. The food was very tasty and well presented.
We loved the food but I am afraid the waitress was quite short. She may have been having a bad day, but it was a bit disappointing. We were served by the same lady around Christmas time and she was very pleasant but last night not as pleasant. Apart from that our night was lovely
Always a great night out in Ely - amazing wine, food and the new fitout is just outstanding
Delicious! Would gladly return. The papperdelle was especially standout and the vegetarian options were good in general.
New Years Eve
Lunch was really lovely and the wine was beautiful
Noise level could be toned down. Enough conversation and revelry to negate loud music
From the very start of booking Ely the staff demonstrated a real passion for working there. I changed my time twice due to Christmas travel delays but the staff accommodated us with complete service and good natured. Dan was excellent and great to be able to order a medium rare burger
From the start, a really lovely experience. Staff very helpful with wine and menu choices and accommodating for one of our party who is coeliac. Friendly ambience even though it was very busy (Christmas week). Highly recommended.
Had seafood main course . Very poor.
Booking through Opentable (not anticipated when calling the restaurant) led to Bank of Ireland putting a precautionary stop on my credit card, - serious nuisance in the week before Christmas
Lovely atmosphere, tasty good and extensive wine list! Will be back! :)
Unfortunately the service we experienced was poor, we were waiting 35 minutes to order food and couldn't get anyone's attention to order. Nobody came to check if our food was ok until after we had finished and we were very delayed getting the bill as nobody would come over to us. We also then had a long wait for the credit card machine. For these reasons I wouldn't be back even though the food was quite nice.
We had a lovely relaxed Christmas lunch. All of the ely staff that we dealt with were friendly and very professional. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Popped in alone for a bite to eat having been at The National Gallery of Ireland. Could not have been more welcome despite the place being packed with Christmas parties. Staff were wonderul, house wine was outstanding and food was excellent. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough.
Had very nice lunch for table of 7 ladies. Waiter very friendly food good but unfortunately one member of bar staff had a very bad attitude and as a result of this none of the group would be prepared to go to Ely wine bar and restaurant again. Regretfully we were not the only patrons who had this bad experience with this member of staff as his bad attitude was being discussed by numerous clients in bar area.
Good atmosphere. Bit noisy at first but fine once the group table left. Not suitable for a quiet meal out.
Another lovely evening at Ely. Good mix of people at the bar and diners. Nice buzz, food excellent.
Food was mediocre and extremely limited choice. I ordered the lamb (unfortunately duck was off the menu) and it was utterly tasteless. All four of us chose differently but we were all equally unimpressed. The noise levels in the restaurant made conversation at our table difficult. I remembered frequenting this place years back when food was delicious and it had a good ambience. I won't be rushing back.
Good wine list is about all it has going for it.
Nice food, wine and staff (as always) - however it is incredibly noisy.
food was amazing and our host was very friendly and attentive. would highly recommend the steaks
Extensive wine menu, food was really good. Personally I don’t feel Ely has evolved with the times in their wine selection, but a good option for a wine on the go to catch up with friends. Seems to attract crowd 40+
Made very welcome coming in from a downpour. Started with glasses of wine- wide choice, quality, and helpful advice. Both enjoyed very tasty cod main course. Desserts: poached pear and hazelnut/chocolate tart. Delicious. Most enjoyable oberall.
Enjoyable for an office lunch - food was delicious! Will be back again next week with international visitors.
Love this restaurant, main courses were really ta stylish and cheese board was excellent. Great atmosphere
Great lunch, and good value. Wine pairing excellent. Staff very friendly and helpfull
we will be back again.
Overall a very good experience with very good service and food. However we did find the layout a bit cramped which meant we struggled to hear each other due to the noise at tables either side of us.
Great service. Andre the waiter that served us was great. He recommended great wine and desert wines:) And he shared great knowledge of the wines we were drinking.
The best dinner we had in Dublin. Waiter was very service oriented. Kitchen was very accommodating to dietary requirements
Excellent locally sourced food, prepared with care and pride. Extensive, reasonably-prized wine list. Service with a smile and a wink. Plus the early bird dinner is a fabulous value.
Highly recommended, well worth the accolades.
