Excellent in every way. Wine list and cocktails impressive. Good food and great service. Would like to see a few more vegetarian items for appetizers and main courses. The staff appeared to be ell trained and able to provide good advice. I ask my waitress about the building and got a great history lesson; very interesting.
We had a delightful Saturday lunch at Field & Main. The crispy potatoes were the best potatoes I've ever tasted! A winning recipe.
I can’t speak highly enough about our experience at Field & Main, from the moment we walked in until the moment we walked out the door. The hosts were wonderful, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. It was worth the hour+ drive for us.
Absolutely amazing as always! The Feast is a ton of food and the wine pairings are sublime!
Fantastic Experience! We enjoyed every dish and the handcrafted cocktails—I recommend the Bulldog for the cocktail list. Don't miss out on the hearth roasted onion as an appetizer and save room for dessert! The deconstructed cheesecake was a nice, light finish to a great meal.
As we were leaving the host took us to the kitchen and introduced us to the sous chef who showed us how our dinner was prepared. A cherry on top of an already perfect expereince!
Interior is very nice. We sat by the open kitchen. Most of our food was delicious. We got a couple of things that could have been better. One dish was overly salty. Overall though, a good meal.
We had the feast with wine pairings and were impressed by everything served. Attentive service and wonderful atmosphere.
Simply the best eating option in the area! If you haven't driven to Marshall, Va and eaten at Field and Main, DO! It is some of the best, most creative - yet simple, tasty and fun food you will have. It is truly a place that will offer a menu FULL of memorable meals. The cocktail options are fun, the wine offerings are many and all wonderful. the servers are friendly, casual and honestly seem to be happy to be part of your evening.
Bottom line - Come Here! You will not regret it!
Soup was, as always, excellent! Desserts can’t be beat! Main courses are sometimes disappointing like both of ours were this last time. We had different main courses, but neither were not up to our standards. Food wasn’t warm enough and flavors were not as good as expected.
The Valentine’s dinner was a great combination and champagne pairing was very good
We will be back
This place is amazing. The owner has a fantastic knowledge and selection of wines and can help you make the perfect selection. The food is creative and really good. They have a special knack with service and making it personal without being intrusive. Do the multi course menu if you can talk your table into it.
My wife and I have wanted dine at F&M for some time, but we hadn't been able to get there. The restaurant has been making all of the top 10 dining spots in our area, and it's so deserved! We went for Brunch and it was so amazing! The menu is bold and creative, and yet simplistic in their approach. My entrée was the Ham and Pimento cheese bread pudding with a fried duck egg on top, and it was delicious!! The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and well trained. If you have special concerns, the kitchen will do whatever they can to meet your needs. We will be going back very soon!!
Wait staff was phrentic, music too loud and not relaxing. Had beef flank steak, which was tough. No sides served with entree.
Soup was excellent.
Second time here and we will be returning again soon. The service is EXCEPTIONAL. All of the staff are so incredibly friendly and hospitable, they go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and cared for. We brought our one year old and they all took care of her as well as us - stopping to make faces at her or show her things. The food is very good and locally sourced - well worth a trip with your spouse for a lovely country dining experience in a warm and friendly place filled with a collection of cozy beautiful rooms. The bar is fantastic and even the open-to-a-dining-area kitchen boasts a wow factor.
The drive was worth having brunch at Field & Main. Love the atmosphere & food. We will be back soon.
The service was great, our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fair at best, the presentation of the food was blah. For the prices of the food should have been better
Excellent brunch food and service. Warm and relaxing environment. Great for everyday dining or that special occasion. We’re going to go again for dinner and will definitely do brunch again.
We had heard wonderful things about this restaurant from some friends and were particularly excited after making our reservation that it was rated #5 among Washington's top one hundred restaurants...7 ahead of the Inn at Little Washington that we have stayed at and had meals at over the years.
Though it was a good dinner, it was not a great dinner...not deserving of the top five on this occasion in that we have dined at a number of the top 10 restaurants over the years and have had some that did not live up to our expectations...this being one of them. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The wine list was less than expected, the offerings were fine but the food served was pretty basic...not outstanding.
But understand, we travel all over the world - including our recent three week trip in Vietnam and Cambodia, which far surpassed all our expectations. And we were very surprised at how great the food was there, the worldly types...not just Asian. And, candidly, we had better meals there overall than this one.
But all this aside...the reason for the feedback is to let folks know...would we recommend you give it a shot...absolutely. It is a shining star in Marshall and shows how Marshall is developing. But expect a good meal...not necessarily a great meal if what we got is the norm. It will be an enjoyable evening all this not withstanding. Will we go back again...maybe...but will look at other options in the area.
This was my second time at Field and Main. My son and I were celebrating my birthday. We opted for the family style feast option. All the courses were very good. The veggie were very tasty. So I would image me vegetarian would love this place. Wine pairings were appropriate and the depth of flavor each dish had was pleasing and interesting. Will be back!
Delicious food and great service in a cozy, inviting atmosphere. I just gathered with friends at Field and Main for a birthday celebration. We had brunch and they were closing to set up for dinner service. Instead of rushing us out the door they chatted with us, talked with us about the house and offered their lounge for us to continue our celebration. Love Field and Main.
Excellent food and service and a good value particularly for two people dining together. This is the 2nd time I've been to Field and Main and it's certainly made it to my short list of places to frequent.
Kitchen is a fun evening. Very good food in an excellent environment.
We really enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking to Jackie!
For starters, our server Julie was great. Super attentive and in-depth knowledge about the menu. We ordered shared plates and they were all perfectly prepared. Main courses were equally as exciting. At the end, we had the pleasure of chatting with Tony and he gave us some history about the restaurant and how they are community focused. Overall, we had a lovely evening.
Our waiter, we were on the second floor, was wonderful. He was working very hard and was very timely. He served me the best martini!
Cozy ambience. Service was friendly but not very frequent. Food was very innovative. The amuse bouche of pork broth was not good—it had a sour taste. Brassel sprouts were very good. Cornbread pudding was bland and unremarkable. Chicken confit had great flavor but meat was very dry in parts, like jerky. Sea scallops were delicious.
Love the food here - it’s on the expensive side - and completely worth it!
I have not complaints other than to say that the chicken dish that I ordered was disappointing. It was way too salty. The sides were fine. How can you ruin chicken? I am not a picky eater, but honestly, the chicken was bad on 20 January.
Best shrimp & grits I've ever had. Other items excellent as well.
Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays currently. Creative menu with a couple of vegetarian options and plenty to satisfy the meat lover as well. The crispy potatoes are worth the trip! My omelet with pork belly and blue cheese topped with a few crispy brussel sprout leaves was memorable. The building is old and authentic, but that said, once the room filled up, it was noisy despite the acoustic fabric panels on the ceiling. Don't let that stop you from trying the food, it was delightful, creative, locally sourced, and artfully prepared.
Gone many times and always delivers on good service and food each visit. Made a reservation an hour before and had a table request for the kitchen area, which was honored. The menu choices are vast, plenty of flavor and fresh. Don't past up the chance to dine here.
Brunch at Field and Main on weekends is outstay ending with all local and fresh ingredients. The menu is eclectic and delicious, and dishes range from traditional brunch fare to more adventuresome dishes. Highly recommend a weekend brunch visit to this restaurant.
Great place and absolutly love going here and will always recommend this place to others and have recommended Field & Main to many friends; however, what I do not like is that their win pours are small and expensive compared to other restaurants that I enjoy and their $65/$70 ribeye/NY strip is overpriced and has a lot of fat.
This was my 3rd visit to Field & Main and my first for brunch. First, I had specified that we wanted kitchen bar seating. We were seated in the dining room instead. And not only that, we were seated at the worst table in the dining room in my opinion. Set in a corner, my view of the restaurant was the corner of two walls 2 feet behind my girlfriend. When the restaurant is 90% empty at 11:45am why is that table one of the first to be seated?
The old fashioned lard biscuits were unexpectedly dense. Doesn't make them bad, just not what we thought they would be. The bacon butter was fantastic.
The eggs benedict with shaved pork was disappointing. The pork was tasteless. The hollandaise was too sweet. The poached eggs were perfect. I would not order that again.
My girlfriend's fried chicken was delicious. Beautifully crispy and moist. Great honey mustard.
Next time I would insist on my preferred seating. I know not to order the biscuits and that version of eggs benedict again. Disappointing visit to an otherwise excellent restaurant.
Ambitious menu and looks appetizing, but not executed well. All of our dishes were extremely salty. I am Italian and love papardelle noodles. These were very wide, almost like cut lasagna strips, odd, but no problem, it was the sauce that was the problem. It was not tomato-based, but instead was like a floury cream gravy with noodles swimming in it. It had a nice flavor but was so rich, one could not possibly eat it without getting sick. It would be like drinking a pot of creamy gravy. The scallops had a nice flavor and were cooked perfectly, but were ruined by the excessive salt. The prices are extremely high, so that causes expectations to also be, and they were not met.
Expectations were unfortunately not met. Nice ambiance though
Excellent food and service as always! My New Years Resolution is to eat here more often!
Desert needs help. Otherwise awsome!
Had a perfectly wonderful Thanksgiving dinner for 3 there. Returned for Sunday brunch. Food was less good. Service excellent as previously. It was New Year’s Eve day. Maybe the A team was not on. I would return though. Brunch probably was anomalous experience.
