Lovely service and excellent food! Will happily return ☺️
I really liked the food at Gertrude and the staff were very good. The only thing I didn't like was the wine selection. Not having a bottle of red wine on the menu for this type of restaurant for less than €32 makes no sense. I know there is options by the carafe, but there should be at least some options for a bottle in the mid to late twenties range. The surroundings at Gertude aren't fine dining, its canteen style, so the wine prices shouldn't be either. If I can get a bottle of wine for €30 or under at Etto or Delahunt for example, which have I would say a similar standard of food, but much more comfortable surroundings, I'd expect to get that here too.
Very enjoyable meal. A bit disappointed that the duck rolls on the menu weren't available as of our party wanted them.
Gertrude is a classy, sassy place. It’s everything that a city restaurant should be: great ingredients, delicious food, nice ambiance at affordable prices. Highly recommended!
Thoroughly enjoyable night in a great space, serving pretty delicious food.
The menu was intriguing and we weren't disappointed - the food was really tasty, well presented.
Disappointed with lack of coeliac friendly options. Most places can swap out bread for g.f. bread. Coeliac's really appreciate this as otherwise options can be extremely limited.
Otherwise, really enjoyed it
I really liked the chilled out vibe here. The food is creative and interesting and the space is bright and airy. The staff are lovely.
Really Lovely Variety. Tonkatsu Sandwich was a winner 👌
Lovely food, nicely presented. Coffee was 3fe and lovely. Nice, interesting selection of dishes.
Gertrude is a nice coffee/restaurant in Dublin City center. Accessible, well organised and with a good food selection. I appreciated different combinations of ingredients, the lamb burger was exceptional and the desserts were interesting. We will go back..
We had the three small plates to share and chicken with pancakes and duck bao bun for main.
None of the small plates were good. The cheese ball was cold in the centre, the salmon was over cured, over salted, cut way too thick and flavourless, the dumpling tasted of artificial smoke and was way too salty.
The waitress asked if we enjoyed the starter. We said no so she just took the plates away with only one of each item eaten.
The main were in the same vein. Over salted, artificial tasting sauces. All very mediocre. We did not finish the mains either.
Service was poor and slow.
Needless to say, we won't be returning.
Firstly the service was appalling. Hard to get served. Huge wait. No politeness.
My pancake "stack" was two pancakes with a pat of butter. Miserable.
Place is nice. A bit loud due to hard surfaces.
Must. Try. Harder. Won't. Be. Back.
Lovely staff, super attentive and polite with great food to match...had a lovely time!
Lovely place but the food wasn't notable. My friend had the pancakes and I had the duck but both dishes were average. Coffee was good though
Portions of mussels served for the price was very bad value. Lamb burger very small portion and dry.
Really excellent food in a lovely setting. The staff were really good and we all thought it was great value for money. We were disappointed the brill was off the menu but we got over it. Definitely want to go back. Delighted to have this in the neighbourhood.
Excellent food, friendly staff... Recommended
Love it here. The food is superb. The feather blade beef is amazing, and the Fritters are literally one of the best things I have ever eaten. My only gripe was the tiny plates and no non-alcoholic beers available. But it is a really nice place and well worth making a visit.
The new brunch spot has great coffee and a nice aesthetic. The staff are friendly but distant, so you will need to pipe up when you want a menu or a top-up.
There is a good mix of options on the menu, but it will not cater to those who want the standard ketchup (they serve their own creation, which is not similar) or maple syrup (they serve orchard/apple syrup exclusively).
The service was quite slow, coffee orders were consistently wrong and some orders just didn't show. Staff were nice and apologised, but it did taint the overall experience.
I would definitely go back for a coffee/croissant in the morning. But I wouldn't recommend it as a brunch spot for the gang to get together as yet. It may be just some teething problems!
The food was fantastic. Tasty starters, wonderful mains & delicious desserts.
We’re already booked to return & I’ve recommended it to my friends. The waitresses were brilliant- we brought out Puppy in Training Guide Dog & he was treated like royalty!
Excellent meal. Would highly recommend it and extremely convient for the Grand Canal Theatre.
Excellent food and service. Wanted everything on the menu so looking forward to a return visit.
While the food and ambiance were fine I found the wine list pricing totally at variance with the venue. The wine we selected was fine but a more reasonably priced selection would make more sense.
I had been really looking forward to trying Gertrude but found the food disappointing overall. My pork tonkatsu was very fatty. It is served in 3 finger sandwiches, one of which was almost entirely breaded fat. My friend also tasted it and didn't like it. Her duck buns however seemed to be a winner, I wished I had ordered them. We also shared but didn't finish a portion of the dumplings which were bland and not enjoyable at all. Though very nice, our server forgot a coffee on the order and didn't check in to see how the food was or ask why we didn't finish the dumplings. Sadly it was underwhelming overall.
Very nice Service with perfect recomendings for food. Unexpected menue written, with appitising look on the plate. All the best for you and your Team.
Nice set up and design of the cafe.
The staff seemed under pressure with the lunch crowd, running around the place trying to show people to there table, take orders and manage the till at the front door. I would guess that there was a team member or general host missing.
Food was nice, pork sandwich was very fatty so we had to trim the fat off. Others found Duck a bit bland and pancakes with chicken was lovely.
Would be good if they told you had to pay at the till rather than waiting at our table trying to catch someones eye to ask for the bill.
Poor offering from new restaurant. Service was slow and at times, rude. Food was disappointing. I had the soft scramble. It was only half warm and the proportions of the food were unbalanced. Twelve euro for eggs on toast is extortionate.
Would be great to have gluten free / low FODMAP options! Otherwise loved the ambiance !
Barley bowl a winner. The dip with the otherwise excellent fries could be more flavoursome, was a bit 'meh'.
Ate here on a Sunday morning so was eating from the brunch menu. Based on reviews I was looking forward to it, albeit I had only heard people talk about one item from the brunch menu; the chicken pancakes. The experience was tainted from the start with one of the most obnoxious waiters I've encountered. When asked if they had orange juice (a request I would deem reasonable in somewhere claiming to serve brunch) I was met with a snarky no. When asked whether it was possible to have poached eggs rather than fried eggs, an even snarkier no and some kind of comment a school teacher would give regarding the improper use of the word "can". He also forgot our coffee orders not once but twice, leaving us to abandon the second coffee and attempt to pay the bill. When he realised we hadn't left a tip (the service spoke for itself as to why there was no tip) he all but through the receipt at me. Apart from the woeful service, the food was itself bog standard. Nothing to write home about and certainly hyped by the boom.
Had dinner here on Friday night. Great, interesting menu. Service second to none. Food fantastic
The tonkatsu sandwich was tough, chewy, lacking in texture, low on kewpie and most disappointing (lesson learned: very few places can get that right) but I am told their barley bowl is great so I will go back and give it another shot.
I was looking forward to eating here and it did not disappoint. The food was incredible, the service was amazing and the coffee to die for. I will definitely be back soon!
Great wine list with lots of unusual choices and our starters were outstanding
It was nice .... we ordered good wine and it was poured into little
Glasses with no offer to taste. The food was fine - comfort food is what it says and that
Is what it is - nothin fancy. The mixed platter starter was very good but the mussels in polenta were just strange! A nice evening and lovely staff - night give it a second try but not rushing back.
Great food and service in Gertrude as always! *
We had an excellent lunch here. Barley bowl was very good & the apple fritters were delicious.
Really lovely experience at Gertrude. I got the barley bowl and it was a really creative, filling and delicious vegan option. Also love the free refils on filter coffee. I’ll be back soon!
Food itself was very good (coffee amazing ofc) but felt that the dishes were extremely measured portions and not generous portions for brunch, especially considering the price. Service could have been faster but overall I enjoyed my meal.
