Hartsyard is an award winning restaurant located in the heart of Newtown. Our philosophy is to showcase the best local produce Australia has to offer and tie that in with asian flavours and techniques. Our menu is inspired by the changing seasons so every experience will differ.

Hartsyard is set on Enmore road embracing the neighbourhood vibe in a relaxed casual environment. We have limited outside seating in the warmer months. Hartsyard is only a two minute walk from Newtown station.

    The food in this popular place was enjoyable and staff were friendly and helpful, but the menu and value for money overall was a bit disappointing. For a start the $99 'experience' tasting menu was rather small and unbalanced compared with others of this type - two tiny cubes of melon was the first course; a single scallop on the shell cut up and dressed with an over-sweet sauce; a very small noodle and raw kingfish dish; a piece of boned beef rib with no vegetables; and a very nice brown oats and cardamon ice-cream and jelly dessert - the outstanding dish in flavour and texture. Except for the final dish there weren't any complicated or unusual dishes that are common in a tasting menu, and to have no vegetables or salad to accompany the beef was disappointing. And the $99 menu didn't just have an occasional small supplement for a choice, but suggested 3 additional items costing $36/70, $52 (!) and I've forgotten the third price - but effectively doubling the cost of the menu if you had these. The food was nice but we had expected something more interesting.

    The food was delicious and went crescendo from starters to dessert. The portions were the right size but the ribs were so melt in your mouth delicious I could have had 2 serve and still ask for more. The staff were lovely and help without being over the top. Altogether it was a great experience for a first anniversary. We saw a few of the à la carte main come by and we will be back!

    Lovely service and fantastic food. Really enjoyed the experience of dining at Hartsyard. The potato pie was excellent, such a textural dish. Service was very helpful and attentive but not overly so. The room was a bit loud and echoey at the height of service but want something to get annoyed at. Overall a great meal with friends at Hartsyard.

    Staff were so friendly and welcoming, our martini to start was also fantastic. We did the tasting menu with added marron and everything tasted amazing. Such great value and real classic flavours served in an updated style. Honestly just delicious.

    Great food - standouts were smoked cheese and caviar tart and the sticky, deep, slightly Asian flavored short rib. The problem was that the entrees came out in no time at all and then there was a noticeably long gap between the entrees and main.

    I am not a seafood fan, per se, but the seafood offering here was the best I've ever had and would definitely come again. The music and service were also exceptional. If you want a really delightful experience, go here.

    Bloody delicious. The lobster was outstanding. Another highlight: potato w smoked caviar and slivers of abalone. Impeccable staff, beautiful and considered pairings w each dish. Highly recommend.

    Great dining experience, catered for all dietary needs and service is amazing. The tasting menu was one to remember, unique and delicious. We also opted for the wine pairing, which gave us a chance to try some very different and equally as delightful Australian wines. The price for the tasting menu is disclosed up front and may appear a tad expensive but it’s worth every cent. We will definitely be back. Thanks Harts Yard for a special night.

    The food was extremely pricey and completely mild in flavours. For a very short menu like that everything should be really tasty but instead, it was disappointing. However, the staff was lovely but if it wasn’t for them the place is not worth it. My rate is at 3 stars only because of the staff, apart from that it wasn’t better than 1 star.
