About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
Opened in February 2014 by Kenny & Abbie Atkinson, House of Tides is located on the historical Newcastle Quayside and set within the beautifully restored Grade 1 listed 16th Century former merchant’s town house.

House of Tides is a casual, informal restaurant which is set over two floors. The rustic ground floor entrance level with its original 16th century flagstones and exposed beams, provides an excellent venue whether you're settling-in for a drink, pre-dinner aperitif or a leisurely nightcap. The first floor which houses the main restaurant seating area also with exposed beams, big open fireplace as well as views over the River Tyne.

Kenny and Abbie’s vision for House of Tides was to create a casual and informal space where everybody should feel comfortable and relaxed with no compromise on quality.

House of Tides is a One Star Michelin & 3 AA Rosette award restaurant.

The House of Tides team will be hosting a more stripped-back and casual dining experience in our downstairs area. Think late-night cosy candle lit atmosphere, class wines and banging cocktails. To start with our first dish will be the fan-favourite Steak Frites. Simple, same high quality produce in a more informal, relaxed setting. Please note that in order to cater for dietary requirements, we would appreciate a minimum of 48 hours notice.

We had such a lovely evening at House of Tides After Hours. The atmosphere and drinks were excellent, and the food was exceptional. The steak, fries and salad were all so tasty and perfectly seasoned, and the green sauce delicious! The desserts were also simply too delicious to refuse. We particularly really appreciated the more relaxed style of service which was warm, welcoming and still with all the quality you’d expect. A special mention to Abbey, who was absolutely brilliant and helped make the evening so enjoyable. All so great, we’ll definitely be back!

Really disappointed that there was no cheese left on the dessert menu. Our table wasn’t late at 18:15 so we found this very surprising.. Ambience was great and the steak fantastic!

Great restaurant great service and the beef was beautiful, superbly cooked. But the second batch of fries were inedible as they’d been over salted. Never raised it as I didn’t want anymore but you expect better at Michelin star restaurant

Having been bought a voucher by friends who visit regularly, we were not disappointed, the experience was all we hoped for. A very warm welcome, very attentive staff (but not intrusive) explained the menu & made suggestions for wine pairings. Food was sensational, interesting flavours & textures & visually stunning. Was my husband’s 70th birthday & we could not have wished for a more wonderful evening, thank you to all the teams who looked after us & made the evening very special.

At the beginning the staff were very attentive, then I'm not sure if it was because we were sat in possibly a blind spot, but I had to ask for more drinks as we had been empty for awhile and our main course dishes sat for 10-15 mins before they were cleared. The lady who took out dessert choice, made up for this with her high energy, so we left on a positive. Food was lovely, we had 3 starters/appetisers which were delicious but make sure you order plenty. The devils on goats back were delicious, but get your own, don't share! Ha ha. Chicken parfait was too, again not enough to share. Steak and frites were tasty. It's great to have background music on to increase the energy of the place and I get that, but for about 90 mins of the 2 hrs we were there, it was so LOUD, we couldn't hear each other speak, it was like being in a noisy pub! Someone must have mentioned it, as it did get turned down a little to a point we could hear each other. Overall the food was great, the atmosphere too, but please turn the music down.

Our experience was excellent with outstanding service and food. It is clear how much work must have to go into each and every course with everything being very intricate and beautifully presented. It is a lovely setting too and very appropriate for a special occasion. My only slight criticism is it would have been nice to have an extra mouthful on the fish and main course to make sure all the delicious sauces were easy to finish off
