Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. Great service, not so great food. Overall, potato, salad and dessert were good. The steaks were lacking flavor and didn’t meet our expectations for the price. The air conditioner vent was above our table and started dripping condensation onto one of our plates. Will not be back.

We were very disappointed in our meal. My steak was over cooked and dry. My husband got the sea bass. It was very good but very small. Most likely we will not go back. For the prices they charge you expect exceptional food.

Service was top notch. Environment okay. Both filets ordered at medium rare and medium were presented at medium well to well. Wife wouldn’t let me send them back. I won’t drop $200+ for a meal here again. I can cook filet better than they did and they have 88 years professional experience.

Steaks were amazing! Standard cut filet blackened and blue cheese filet. Quiet. Prompt service. Only issue, ladies restroom was extremely dark. Will definitely be going back!

Menu is confusing, if you order a steak they have a set salad and side baked potato *with only sour cream and butter* (will not add cheese or bacon) but, they offer several different salads and sides on the menu but refuse to let you substitute anything. Side salad was garbage with 2 cherry tomatoes on the side. And the “bread” is burnt little cornbread pancakes. 0/10, 1 star, do not recommend for that price. Do yourself a favor and go to Sperry’s instead.

Our waiter Robert was excellent!! Git us creme brûlée which wasn’t even on the menu, which was delicious!! I got the blue cheese filet wrapped in bacon. The bacon was crisp and the steak was perfectly cooked medium well as i asked for. The best thing about the meal was the complimentary corn cakes with butter. I loved the food but wish that we could’ve had a table downstairs instead of being placed upstairs away from the action and ambiance.

We waited for over an hour for food only to end up with a steak that my husband had to send back. It was so tough that he couldn’t even cut it. The waitress was very apologetic as we absolutely understand it was of no fault of hers! She was quick to bring another steak. However, that steak left a LOT to be desired as well! So our waitress did the best with what she was handed, but we were very disappointed with the quality of food & wait times.

My husband ordered the filet mignon and said it was the best piece of steak he has ever eaten. I had the grilled salmon. It was delicious. Our waiter was excellent. The setting and ambience was perfect. Wonderful evening.

I don't think JK's is what it once was. Our server seemed to have his mind in other places (we had to flag down the manager to get a bottle of wine; and at least one order was wrong). The prices are on the high side and the steaks okay. They did at least give us free desert for our troubles.

Food was terrible. Steak was gray, onions and mushrooms looked out of a can and microwaved, macaroni was cut out of a pan in a square and plopped into a skillet, dry and tasteless. Completely ruined my opinion of what I once considered the best restaurant in the city. Sad to see it lowered its standards so far. The staff and ambiance were fantastic, but the food overshadowed them. At the price point it is the biggest rip-off disappointment I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Sad to see.

I had the filet which was cooked perfectly medium rare but had absolutely no flavor. I even had to put salt and pepper on it because it was so bland. Very overpriced.

I have known about Jimmy Kelly’s for so long. The food is really good as well as the service. The prices are high to me yet I know that is the way it is at upscale restaurants. I worked at a bank many years ago and Jimmy Kelly came in often. The restaurant was right next to the bank which was the Belle Meade office of Third National Bank.

Chris hovered over us as we eat in such a way that it felt creepy. The food was good but not worth the money we paid for it.
