   We celebrated out 25th wedding anniversary dinner with Kalo. I couldn’t have been more pleased with the choice. Both dishes were excellent the Miso Seabass with lobster reduction and The pineapple king Tiger prawn curry were both very tasty. The desert was a vanilla gelato with a guava center. We had to put the topping aside due to Raspberry allergies and the staff was great with Gluten-free item recommendations.

   Outstanding service…great dishes…great atmosphere and vibe! First time at Kalo Hawaiian Food…and extremely pleased. Mahalo nui Kalo staff and Chef Chai! Special mahalos to Bartender “Jay”. You made my wife and I feel extremely welcomed, as we were waiting for our table! Khrup khun khraap and Big Mahalos! 🤙

   In Honolulu to board a cruise ship in a few days. This restaurant was nearby. We dined early when it was quiet, sliding doors were open, creating a delightful cross breeze. The food was excellent and the server not afraid to make suggestions. We appreciated that.

   So I get there right at 4:30 open and NOBODY in restaurant, so I ask for corner table so I can be away from anyone who arrives.. but the next two people who arrive are seated within three feet of me!!!! And the whole floor of the main dining room was wide open...even the people being seated were wondering why they seated so closely!!... oh well.. moving on... I believe Chef Chai would be surprised to hear that food prepared late the previous night is used for the opening the next day, i.e. leftovers. Ordered two appetizers: kataifi prawns and they came out cold on the wood stick, certainly not deep fried that day. Also ordered the beef short rib appetizers... dried beyond belief and almost chipped a tooth trying to tear the meat from the bone..obviously cooked way previously and probably left out over night. Hawaiian BBQ chicken main meal was awesome!! Great flavor and Cooked fresh and hot to the table...!!! Unfortunately, a white pigeon was allowed to freely roam the inside dining area and it jumped on my table and started to enjoy the garlic noodle side dish I had ordered....lost my appetite after that...Staff not concerned about a pigeon roaming freely in dining room... my server was delightful and attempted to be very accommodating, which I appreciated.. however, please keep cork of wine bottle opened at table side on the table! Nice server lost cork and I had to leave half-bottle at table and go to waste..I felt like I lost out...overall... So many many many many other great dining options in Waikiki, so with that in mind: PASS on this dining option... trust me.. my bill for eating alone came to $161.23... I could have done better at sooo many other places in Waikiki..

   All I can say is WOW! The food was amazing. Our service was amazing. The vibes were great. If you go, you HAVE to try the Sea Bass. It was hands down the best I’ve ever had, and I eat fish frequently! My friends ate the Short Ribs Pipikaula and the Kaula Pork which were both tasty as well. We are so glad we tried this restaurant while we were in Hawaii. We wanted authentic Hawaiian food and that’s exactly what we received, which tasted incredible!

   This spot is amazing! The food is great and service is friendly and accommodating. Lilikoi butter is also a very nice touch! It’s a gem and so glad we went. Location is also convenient.

    For what they charge, the food is very mediocre. Some of the dishes were over cooked. The Hawaiian chicken was charred black on one side. Flavor is like what you can get from a high end food court. Had to wait a very long time to get the food. Very disappointed and ruined a special occasion. Went there because of the high star rating but there were only 135 ratings. That should have been a red flag.

    I had high hopes for this place. The menu looked great and the chef is well known and celebrated. My daughter ordered the miso sea bass which was excellent. I ordered the bbq chicken which came out cold, was over cooked, tough, and tasted like it was yesterdays meal. Both meals took a long time to come out. Our server was very friendly. I’d be willing to give it another shot just because there are some really yummy looking menu options. Prices were steep.

    We stumbled across this gem while exploring the streets of Waikiki. Dinner started with a warm, fresh baked taro roll and sweetened butter. The Hawaiian sampler offered small portions of kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon, rice, beef short ribs, and was definitely enough for one. A delicious first taste of authentic Hawaiian food! Coffee pot de crème for dessert made a nice finish. Servers were friendly and attentive. We had outdoor seating on the patio; it’s not overly noisy even with the street nearby. I would highly recommend Kalo!

    The food was excellent. We were notified at the beginning that the kitchen was running behind. We enjoyed our drinks and conversation. We were in the main dining room near the bar. Music was pleasant and the staff checked in us pretty regularly. We had the platter which was an excellent value for sharing between two people. It was a great experience and would highly recommend to others:

    The food tasted great, but my goodness, it was incredibly expensive, for such a small amount. I wouldn't go back because it was about $43 per entree, plus $14 cocktails. The Hawaiin pupu platter was $45, and no laulau was even included.

    So amazing. BUT. You MUST ask for dishes to be GF. The GF denotation does not mean it comes out of the kitchen GF. You have to ask. It’s unfortunately very misleading so for my celiac friends - ASK! Very little was actually GF.

    Service was very slow More than 20 minutes for drinks and an hour to get our food. Beer was flat and warm when it arrived. Kitchen was short staffed but we should have Vern give a heads up.

    We went there on our last night in Hawaii together before leaving over the next two days. Everybody enjoyed their meal, my wife and I split the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, which was wonderful. The restaurant was mostly full, we got a reservation online, recommended. Would go there again next time we are in town.

    If you are seeking authentic Hawaiian food then this is a great place to start. This restaurant is physically situated right next to the Kuhio Avenue Courtyard by Marriott and presents with a nice, low key Hawaiian vibe upon entering. We were greeted, warmly, by our host who immediately seated us. We ordered vegetarian dish and a jumbo prawn with a pineapple curry sauce. Both dishes were accompanied by white rice (but you can substitute the rice for scallion noodles). My partner enjoyed her vegetarian dish and I thoroughly enjoyed the jumbo prawn dish as well. If you looking for delicious Hawaiian food, in a low key environment, with great service in the Waikiki area of Oahu then this is the place for you.

    I was excited to try Hawaiian food at this highly-rated spot, but I regret ever going there and giving it a chance. It took over an hour to get our food, except for some bread and a small appetizer. The service was abysmal and there were no apologies at all regarding the crazy delays. None of the tables around us had food either and the atmosphere was heavy with hungry people anxiously waiting. The food did not make up for this and left much to be desired. What is worse is the crazy mark up on the food when the quality does not match the price at all. We had much cheaper meals of higher quality and flavour, which only added to the frustration. It is safe to say I will never go back there or recommend it to anybody.

    we came with a party of three, food was set menu for 2 which we received but charged for 3. it was great dinner and a treat to have chief walk around and meet the guest. Just unfortunate she ignored our table and walked around to everyone else's table but ours. Felt uncomfortable after that.

    Unfortunately we never got to food. Waited 20 minutes to get drinks and was another 20 and we still didn’t get a drink. The waitress was more concerned with the telephone and babysitting a little girl. Walked out. Too bad we looking forward to our last night in Waikiki. She didn’t even know what the fish of the day was. If I ran that red she would be fired.

    Not a place for locals as the food was way overpriced. $45 for a Hawaiian mixed plate?!? Really!?! Guess because you’re in Waikiki you’re expected to pay more for tiny portions of “Hawaiian” food that you could’ve picked up at Foodland for a whole lot less $.
