About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for live music
La Cueva is a slot canyon-themed speakeasy located at Ponce City Market. The cave entrance is a “liminality”—a threshold and passageway into a futuristic cocktail bar and restaurant, with menu design by James Beard-recognized Chef Luis Damian.

The cave is set in a dystopian future, where sojourners gather around the glowing stone—a source of vitality and a place of refuge. Its potions are the remedy for weary travelers seeking nourishment and a momentary escape from the heaviness of the outside world.

The atmosphere reflects the soul of the cave itself: warm, glowing light against rugged stone, echoes of Latin rhythm and spirit, and energy pulsing through the room—mysterious and full of life.

*La Cueva features live music every night.*

**Dress to impress:** No athletic wear, athleisure, sports jerseys, ball caps, shower caps, flip-flops, or sagging pants.

**Admission is strictly limited to guests 21 years of age or older. A valid government-issued photo ID is required for entry.**

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
La Cueva offers a "super cool vibe" with dim red lighting and live contemporary jazz. Guests rave about the "fantastic food" like shrimp empanadas, fresh ceviche, and perfectly cooked branzino. The cocktails are also noteworthy, and the service is "thoughtful." However, entry and seating arrangements need improvement.

This is a beautiful restaurant with amazing ambiance. Unfortunately the night we visited a fire alarm went off and we were asked to to pay and vacate. The only thing I was able to try was a drink and an appetizer. I wanted to try the branzino. I will return to try the branzino and other items.

We had an amazing time at this restaurant, the ambience is fantastic, and the music wasn't that loud that we couldn't hear each other over the table, which was a group of six. The service was constantly on point and the food came out very quickly for starters and our mains. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

La Cueva is a really cool location and cool vibe, however there are not many food options if you have allergies. We had issues with our drinks where we requested a dirty martini and received an espresso martini then we received a lemon drop martini with olives. We then received what was supposed to be a dirty martini however it still tasted like lemons as the drink was just poured out instead of a new glass used. Additionally I ordered a glass of wine and waiting for it for over 10 minutes and when I asked I was told that the wine was sold out, which I wish I was told when my friends received their drinks instead of having to follow up with the waitress. I would go back to La Cueva but likely will just sit at the bar instead of a dine in table.

Finally got a chance to check out La Cueva, the new speakeasy inside Ponce City Market, after snagging a last-minute reservation. The Entry Issue (Needs Improvement): The night started off rocky. We stood outside ringing the doorbell and knocking for over 15 minutes alongside a growing group of other reservation holders. We eventually got inside only because someone exited through the wrong door. Upon entering, the hostess was standing right there yet somehow hadn't heard us. When I asked how we were supposed to get in, she unhelpfully claimed we should have received a link, but no one in the crowd outside had received one either. Unclear entry directions and an uncommunicative front door process are major frustrating factors that would make me think twice about returning or recommending it to others. The Vibe, Food & Service: Once inside, things took a major turn for the better! We were seated in a cozy nook, and the overall vibe is incredible with dim, moody red lighting paired with an excellent live contemporary jazz band. Our server, Sujit, was fantastic, attentive, friendly, and super helpful with menu recommendations. For food, we ordered: Shrimp Empanadas: Outstanding! Peruvian Ceviche: Super fresh and flavorful. Branzino: Cooked perfectly. For drinks, the Old Fashioned was great, though the French 75 was just okay. La Cueva is definitely a cool vibe with fantastic food and live music, but management desperately needs to fix their door/entry protocol for reservation holders.

The food, ambience and live music were exquisite. My only complaint was we had a reservation and it specifically asks you if you’re celebrating anything, which I selected our anniversary. Our waitress did not tell us happy anniversary our entire dining experience and I asked her at the end if we would get a dessert, which she said unfortunately no. I expected a high end restaurant like this to make such an important event special, as other restaurants certainly have in the past. She did offer us a glass of prosecco which I could not drink because I am pregnant, which I also disclosed at the beginning of our visit. This was very disappointing and I wish we picked a different restaurant that would have celebrated us.
